Gresh

Gresh in the Arena.Gresh as a set.

In order to claim rights to an oasis, the Jungle Tribe sent Gresh to fight the Rock Tribe in the Vulcanus arena. While traversing through the deserts with Tarix and Strakk, Gresh encountered the Agori Berix fleeing from a Bone Hunter. Gresh intervened, saving the Agori’s life. Though outclassed by the Bone Hunter in strength, Gresh and his allies managed to defeat the Bone Hunter, forcing it to flee. Gresh, Tarix, and Strakk then followed the Agori to Vulcanus, encountering and defeating a pack of Vorox along the way.

Upon arriving at the arena, Gresh was soon forced into the fight, combating a vicious Skrall. The Skrall eventually overpowered Gresh, and defeated him. Before the Skrall was about to deliver a finishing blow, Tarix intervened, and forced the Skrall to spare Gresh’s life.

Returning to his home, Gresh was introduced to an Agori who had been sent by Raanu to ask the Glatorian if he would find a way to help Vulcanus, which was suffering from daily Bone Hunter raids and had no way to defend itself. Impressed by the Agori’s courage and willingness to help he suggested the Agori make a contract with him, Strakk, Tarix, and even the Skrall. After being paid, he gladly donated his own seal to the contract.

Malum

MalumThe Malum set.

Malum fought in the arena as a Glatorian in service of Raanu’s Fire Tribe. During one match, Malum broke a primary rule when he tried to kill an opponent who had already conceded defeat. As punishment for violating the code of combat, Malum was banished to the Wastelands of Bara Magna. He began wandering the deserts, challenging any Glatorian he chanced upon for his own gain.

Malum eventually became the leader of a pack of Vorox. When three of the Vorox emerged from the sand and attacked Strakk, Gresh, Tarix, and Berix, Malum signaled for them to retreat in the midst of their battle. He and his Vorox also attacked a Skrall party north of the Skrall River, although they disappeared into the sand during the battle.

After his banishment, Vulcanus began experiencing daily raids by the Bone Hunters. Desperate for a solution, Raanu entrusted a helpful Agori with seeking out Malum and asking that he return to defend the village. Malum refused, declaring that he would never help the village, but promising that he would figure something out if the Agori gave him some Thornax ammo.

Receiving it, he reluctantly made good on his deal by telling the Agori to make a stew from the Thornax to feed to the Bone Hunters, with the hope that it would placate them. Realizing, however, that the Hunters would not be happy if the stew was made wrong, he intoned that it might be wise to feed it to a Zesk first, then tell them the Bone Hunters had more of it. He suspected the Zesk might get the Vorox to raid their camps to look for more, temporarily relieving Vulcanus of its problems. He subsequently traded with the Agori, receiving Thornax in return for the Rock Salt needed to make the stew.

Skrall

A Skrall in the Arena.Skrall in set form.A Skrall in the Glatorian Promo Animation.

Skrall once fought in a great war before the Shattering took place. After the cataclysmic event, the Skrall were cut off from their homeland, and they conquered the region north of the Black Spike Mountains. However, the Skrall were soon attacked constantly by strange shapeshifters, until Tuma was the only Skrall of his class left, causing Tuma to bring the Rock Tribe south to Roxtus.

Until recently, Skrall did not participate in the social order of Bara Magna, preferring to operate on their own. However, Tuma’s goal of conquering Bara Magna has forced them into the system, competing with other tribes for resources and other valuables. Skrall are normally unnamed, but can earn themselves a name if they manage to distinguish themselves from the tribe, but the name can only be bestowed upon them by Tuma himself. Names unapproved by Tuma are forbidden, including nicknames. Additionally, only the Skrall that Tuma permits to battle in arenas may do so, and they are not permitted to work for any tribe other than the Rock Tribe.

A Skrall patrol was dispatched to the western ruins in search of the Certavus book. When they returned without it, Tuma reassigned them to a punishment of feeding the Spikit. Subsequently, the Skrall patrol was killed, as they were devoured by the Spikit.

Tuma then sent a Skrall, accompanied by Atakus, to Vulcanus, in order to claim an oasis the Jungle Tribe desperately needed. The Skrall overwhelmed his competitor, Gresh, and was about to kill him when Tarix intervened, warning the Skrall of the potential repercussions of his actions. The Skrall retreated, heading towards a mysterious cavern, where he met with an informant, who provided him with details of a trade caravan leaving from Tajun. The shadowy figure and the Skrall parted ways, and the Skrall headed to Roxtus, where he relayed his newly acquired information to Tuma.

A Skrall patrol leader received a parchment copy of the Bone Hunters plans to raid Vulcanus after a representative was sent. When his patrol was north of the Skrall River, they were ambushed by Malum and a pack of Vorox. Malum and the Vorox fled into the sands, leaving the patrol to return to Roxtus. The patrol leader informed Tuma, who assigned him to take a dozen Skrall and Rock Steeds to capture Malum.

A Skrall’s seal was purchased by an Agori sent by Raanu asking that it help aid in the defense of Vulcanus against the daily raids by Bone Hunters. The Skrall made it clear that a large payment was the only way to achieve it’s agreement, and that any other talk would lead to violence.

Strakk

Strakk firing his Thornax LauncherThe Strakk set.

The Glatorian Gresh was contracted by his village of Tesara to fight in the Vulcanus Arena against the Rock Tribe’s Skrall in a dispute over an oasis. He sought out Tarix and Strakk and together the three began the journey to the Fire Tribe. Along the way they encountered the Agori Berix, under attack by a Bone Hunter. Strakk and his allies managed to defeat the Bone Hunter, but Strakk was stampeded by the Rock Steed in the process. Berix was grateful to them for saving him but expressed grief at having no way to pay them. Gresh said that saving a life required no retribution, but Strakk disagreed, telling Gresh to “speak for himself.”

As the four continued to travel, they found themselves beset upon by a pack of wild Vorox. They managed to defend themselves until the pack retreated, seemingly at the signal of the exiled Glatorian Malum. When the Glatorian finally arrived, Strakk and Tarix served as spectators in the fight between Gresh and the Skrall. Although Strakk believed Gresh wouldn’t survive the fight, he was impressed with how long he managed to stay in the battle.

Later, when an Agori sent by Raanu to seek his help arrived at Iconox and showed him he had gained Iconox’s favor from Metus, Strakk was impressed and assumed that the Agori had used trickery to get it. He agreed to aid the other Glatorian in resisting the Bone Hunter raids that plagued Vulcanus, mentioning that he could use the opportunity to show his new moves, or to perhaps fake weakness in the ring to lull his enemies into a false sense of confidence the next time he fought them. In return for keeping quiet about his plans, he offered the Agori an Honor Badge that would allow him to seek an audience with the Skrall.

Tarix

TarixTarix as a set.

After the disaster which split Bara Magna from it’s original landmass, Tarix helped design the new social system. Since then, he has won over a thousand arena battles.

Tarix was the victor of the tournament in Arena Magna held one year ago, and is the current champion of the Glatorian.

When the Glatorian Gresh was asked by Tesara to do battle with a Skrall over a debated oasis, he agreed and began journeying to Vulcanus with Strakk and Tarix. On their way they found an Agori, Berix, being attacked by the Bone Hunter Fero. They eventually forced the Bone Hunter to retreat, and continued on their journey with the Agori, but were again attacked by a pack of Vorox. The group was able to fend them off until they finally retreated. Berix noticed a figure in the distance, and Tarix realized that it was the exiled Glatorian, Malum.

Finally reaching Vulcanus, Tarix and Strakk watched from the sidelines as Gresh was defeated by the Rock Tribe’s Skrall. Before the Skrall could deliver a killing blow, Tarix intervened, saving Gresh’s life. Tarix warned the Skrall of the repercussions of his actions and congratulated Gresh on surviving for nearly three minutes in the ring with it.

Tarix later found Berix while wandering the desert, conversing with the Agori on future events.

Tarix’s home of Tajun soon found its name slandered by accusations that their repaired artifacts were in fact stolen. A representative of Raanu, who had come to ask for the Glatorian’s help, was told to find an Ancient Spear that would clear the village’s good name. After succeeding, Tarix pledged his help to Vulcanus in defending it against the raids by the Bone Hunters, giving the Agori his seal.

Vorox

A Vorox firing its Thornax LauncherThe Vorox set.A Vorox in the wastelands of Bara Magna.

Vorox were once part of the Glatorian species and were known to be proud warriors, though they were typically more reclusive than others. When a cataclysm struck Bara Magna, the Vorox began to revert to a more primal species, eventually losing all individual identity. Vorox do not participate in the social system, but fight in the arena when forced to.

The Glatorian Malum was exiled from his village, and encountered a group of Vorox in the wastelands. By attacking and killing the leader, Malum was able to gain the allegience of this pack. Three of these Vorox later encountered and attacked Gresh, Strakk, Tarix, and Berix. During the battle, however, Malum signaled for them to retreat. Malum and his pack of Vorox later attacked a patrol of Skrall while they paused, but allowed them to survive before disappearing.

An Agori sent by Raanu to find a means of defending Vulcanus went looking for a Vorox to try and turn against the Bone Hunters. He encountered one in a wasteland cave and was saved from being eaten by a musk he had been given by a Zesk. The Agori proceeded to give the Vorox several of the Thornax Stews the Zesk had loved, and was given a Stinger Oath in return, essentially forming a peace treaty.

Toa Mistika of The Swamp

Toa Mistika

Tahu, Onua, and Gali in their adaptive armor.

Continuing the story of the Toa Nuva, the other three Toa went below Karda Nui in search of the Kanohi Ignika.

The team is just as lucky as the other as they also met with three other Makuta while searching. Will fear come on top? Can they stop the Makuta from their evil but yet stupid plot? Why am I asking you all these questions?

Toa Mistika Tahu:

After the first battle in the sky at Karda Nui, the Toa Nuva split up. Tahu led Gali and Onua into the so-called Swamp of Secrets that puddled at the bottom of Karda Nui. The three decided they would split up. Tahu soon came across the Cordex. However, he didn’t know what it was. When he approached the Codrex, he was blasted backwards by the Codrex’s energy shield and laid barely conscious in the mud. Krika soon appeared, and began to feast on his energy. While feasting, Krika related to Tahu why the Brotherhood hated the Toa so much. As Tahu continued to lose his energy, he shot a ball of Fire into the sky, alerting the other Toa of his situation. Tahu then channeled heat into the mud around him, increasing the temperature until it was searing hot, and Krika turned intangible and escaped. He was then reunited with Gali and Onua, who had all encountered the other two Makuta, Gorast and Bitil, and followed their trails to the Codrex. Before the Makuta attacked, the Toa were directed away by an Av-Matoran to a nearby cave. Inside the cave, the Toa witnessed several other Av-Matoran who were transforming into Bohrok. The Av-Matoran then explained that once their lifetime comes to an end, they transform into Bohrok and are transported into the Bohrok Nest below Mata Nui. The Av-Matoran then handed a keystone to the Toa, and took on the shocking transformation as well. After witnessing the transformation, Tahu was saddened by the fact that he did not ask the Matoran his name, and that it took so much sacrifices for the life of one.

Departing the cave, the Toa walked carefully through the swamp Tahu then suggested that they would use the Nuva-exclusive Elemental Power time-bomb trick to attack the Makuta at their field base. They succeeded, but their plans were quickly discovered by the Makuta. Gali formed a wall of mist, and the Toa escaped, with Onua carving a tunnel through the ground. However, Tahu soon realized that the Makuta were not following. He deduced from that that the Makuta believed they would journey to the Codrex, where they planned to go, and ambush them there. Tahu ordered Onua to turn back, and the three Toa emerged from the tunnel and approached the Codrex from the sky, protected by the mist above the swamp. They found out that the Makuta had indeed journeyed to the Codrex. Tahu quickly formulated a plan, and the three Toa led a large scaled attack on the three Makuta. However, their plan was quickly met by the Makuta, and it was soon that the battle entered a stalemate, with neither sides winning. To the Toa’s misfortune, the other Phantoka Makuta, minusĀ Mutran and Icarax, and the Shadow Matoran Kirop, Gavla, and Radiak united with the three Mistika Makuta. Outnumbered, Tahu ordered the others to take cover. Antroz confronted the Toa, preparing a devastating blast. Before he could, the remaining Toa Nuva and the three Av-Matoran Tanma, Photok and Solek, arrived at that point and the Toa Nuva were finally reunited. Together, the Toa Nuva began the final battle against the Makuta.

Toa Mistika Gali:

250px-Gali Mistika.png

At some point after arriving at Karda Nui the Toa Nuva split up. Kopaka, Lewa and Pohatu stayed in the air to help with the battle going on there while Gali, Tahu and Onua headed to the swamp down below to search for the Mask of Life. What she and the others do not know is that the Ignika is up above helping the others. They then decided to split up. Gali then found a Keystone hidden on a vine that was part of a swamp plant. Gali used her powers to create a fist of water to knock the stone off of its place, not aware that a Makuta was stalking her as she removed the Keystone. As soon as the stone was loose, Gali remembered the words of Hydraxon who told her that danger isn’t what she saw, but what she wouldn’t see until it was too late. Meanwhile, Makuta Gorast charged at Gali, who suddenly turned around and saw the attack. She immediately formed another fist of water that spun Gorast’s flight out of control. The Toa Nuva of Water then formed a water sphere over the Makuta’s head, and fired her Nynrah Ghost Blaster at Gorast. The energy formed chains that bound the Makuta temporarily, but Gorast broke the chains. Gorast fired her Ghost Blaster and Gali was barely able to dodge the blow, which gave her the chance to trap the Makuta by increasing the moisture in the mud beneath Gorast. The Makuta plunged into the mud, and Gali thought she had killed herself. She was wrong, as Gorast was able to burst out of the mud and throw a surprisingly powerful blow at Gali, stunning her and allowing Gorast to use her stinger on her back, preparing to feed on her light. Luckily for Gali, Onua appeared at that moment. He threw Gorast, rescued his partner, and escaped to find Tahu. As they reunited with him, the Toa and the Makuta saw one of the Phantoka Makuta, Chirox, falling from the sky uncontrollably. As the other Makuta rescued their partner, an Av-Matoran brought them to safety. Once they arrived at an unknown destination, they saw about a dozen Av-Matoran going through a transformation. What really shocked the Toa was the result of their new forms: the Bohrok. The Av-Matoran who brought the Toa to safety gave them another Keystone and then transformed into a Bohrok.

Later, she and the others spied on the Makuta as they placed another Keystone in a small pit. The Toa Nuva used their elemental powers to set delayed blasts to distract the Makuta while they attempted to sneak into the camp to retrieve the Keystone, and they were caught by the Makuta. Tahu then attempted to trick the Makuta by telling them that the Kanohi Ignika was with the Toa in the skies, not knowing it was in fact there. Bitil thinking that it was a trick, sent a telepathic message to one of the Phantoka Makuta, only finding out that the Mask of Life had become a Toa and that the new being had defeated Icarax by devolving him. Tahu, Gali, and Onua then escaped by having Gali create a fog and having Onua dig a tunnel. The Makuta raced to the Codrex, believing that was where the Toa were headed and prepared to attack them. Tahu however, decided that it was better to go high enough into sky to spy on them.

When the Toa saw the Makuta at the Codrex, they launched an attack. The Phantoka Makuta, along with some Shadow Matoran, surrounded the Toa Mistika. The heroes were cornered by the energy field of the Codrex. Antroz began to fire a shadow bolt, only to have his hand frozen by Kopaka. The Toa were reunited again and the Toa Nuva soared into the final battle against the Makuta.

Sometime later, Gali was being attacked by Krika when Takanuva arrived in the swamp and rushed to help her. Upon seeing him, Gali immediately recognized him and questioned him about why he was there.

Toa Mistika Onua:

Tahu, Gali, and Onua went to the Swamp below Karda Nui to battle Gorast, Krika, and Bitil. They then decided to split into different directions. Onua saw a Nui-Kopen flying towards him and swatted away the creature. The Nui-Kopen fell into the swamp and began to mutate. Onua realized there was something in the swamp the others had to be warned about, but he was struck by Bitil. Bitil then appeared, now with Onua under his control through his Nynrah Ghost Blaster. He then took Onua to Krika’s camp, which served as the headquarters for the Makuta Mistika. Bitil triggered his Mohtrek to summon copies of himself to keep Onua from escaping. When the Ghost Blaster’s effects wore off, Onua knocked the Makuta out of the way. Bitil immediately summoned more of his copies and the Toa of Earth was surrounded by fifty of them. Onua created an explosion of mud and fled into the air, followed by Bitil, who had deactivated his mask. Onua then took out his weapon, fired it and knocked his foe out of the sky.

Onua escaped to find Gali, who was close to defeat at the hands of Gorast. Angered, he grabbed Gorast from Gali and crashed Gorast into the ground with every bit of force he could provide. Onua then checked on the Toa of Water. Gorast attempted to turn Onua to their side, telling him that he could have all of Metru Nui and be a king to the Brotherhood of Makuta. Onua refused and used his powers again to create an explosion of mud directed at Gorast. He then took Gali and both flew to find Tahu. Onua and Gali found Tahu weakened but still alive from his brief encounter with Krika. The Toa and Makuta saw one of the other Makuta falling from the sky; Chirox. As the Makuta rescued their brother, the Toa left with an Av-Matoran who brought them to safety. Onua and the others arrived, seeing the Matoran going through a transformation. What shocked them was seeing the result of the transformation; Bohrok. Onua remembered a theory by Mavrah about how Bohrok were once bio-mechanical life and were later evolved into mechanical, artificial forms. The Matoran who brought the Toa to safety presented a Keystone and transformed into a Bohrok and teleported to the island of Mata Nui.

The Toa later spied on the Makuta as they hid another Keystone by burying it in the ground. Tahu devised a plan, and the Toa used their elemental blasts at a delayed time to distract the Makuta. The Makuta returned and tried to stop the Toa Nuva. Krika said that his team was searching for the Kanohi Ignika, but Tahu tried to pretend that it was with Pohatu and the others up above (not knowing it was in fact with them). Bitil thinking it was a trick sent a telepathic message to one of the Phantoka Makuta. When the message returned, both sides were shocked that the Mask of Life became a Toa and Icarax had already been devolved. Tahu then threw up a shield, Gali created a mist veil, and Onua dug tunnels to escape. The Makuta raced to the Codrex, believing that the Toa would head there.

Tahu decided that the team should fly over the Codrex. They then flew down at a rapid pace, charging at the Makuta for a battle between them. The Makuta Phantoka arrived, leaving the Toa surrounded by the six Makuta. They pinned the Toa to the Codrex’s energy field and Antroz started to create a shadow blast. As the blast began to leave his hand, Kopaka froze it, as he, Lewa, Pohatu, Tanma, Solek, and Photok arrived. The Mistika Toa Nuva then joined the other half of their team to begin a final battle against the Makuta

Toa Takanuva:

In the Karda Nui swamps, Takanuva emerged from a pocket dimension. After 3 tries to get to Karda Nui, he’d finally arrived. There he found Toa Mistika Gali Nuva, in battle with Makuta Krika. He flew to Krika, who saw Takanuva, and sadly disappeared. Takanuva helped Gali to her feet and they began looking for the other Toa Nuva. Then Takanuva spots an orange Toa-shaped being in the distance and prepares to battle… Takanuva looks more closely at the figure and realizes it’s Toa Pohatu. He then found out that he’d been an Av-Matoran and that the Makuta were draining the Matoran’s Light. He swore that he will save the Matoran, even if he must die. The trio then encountered some violent insectoid creatures called Niazesk. Noticing the Toa, they attacked. Gali and Pohatu soon started fighting. Takanuva lowered his lance to blast the Niazesk with light but changed his mind in favor of his Shadow powers to take down all of the flying Rahi. Raising his right hand, he called upon the power of shadow, blasting the oncoming Niazesk directly. The Toa of Twilight turned towards his teammates, thinking they would congratulate him on winning the fight. Instead he saw fear in their eyes, and Pohatu pointing his weapon at him. Pohatu said that he had always wondered where Makuta Teridax had gone and now he knew. Takanuva asked Pohatu if was crazy and if he seriously thought he was a Makuta. Pohatu said yes, and said to Takanuva that if he really was Takanuva, he had 10 seconds to give Pohatu reason not to “Skyblast” him out of existence. Remembering that he had formed a bond with Gali on Mata Nui, Takanuva quickly suggests she read his mind. She did, citing his trips through The Kingdom and Dark Mirror during the process. His identity confirmed, Takanuva had the two Toa Nuva brief him on the current situation in the Swamp. Afterwards he tipped the balance of the battle and drove the Makuta back. He met the Toa Ignika and learned about the countdown to the end of the universe, then, Takanuva told the Toa Nuva that the energy storm was to be released after the awakening of Mata Nui and destroy everything in Karda Nui except the Cordex.

Rockoh 3 vehicle:

Toa Pohatu specially adapted for Rockoh T3.

Rockoh T3 is a vehicle created by Artakha. It, along with Jetrax T6 and Axalara T9, was placed in the Codrex sometime before the Toa Mata were created.

The Rockoh T3 has the ability to trap enemies inside a field of energy and is armed with a blaster cannon. All of the armor and weapons on Rockoh T3 are made of Protosteel.

When the Toa Nuva entered the Codrex, the Rockoh T3 was discovered by Pohatu. When the Jetrax T6 was stolen by Antroz, Pohatu immediately boarded his craft and chased after him. While following him, Pohatu tried to bring down the Jetrax T6 with stone spikes, and managed to grab it in a stone hand. However, Antroz managed to break free, and then shot the Rockoh T3 down.

Axalara T9:

The Axalara T9 with its landing gear deployed.

Axalara T9 is a large vehicle Artakha created and stored in the Codrex before the Toa Mata were created with the Rockoh T3 and Jetrax T6.

The vehicle is equipped with dual Midak Skyblasters, tri-arms with lasers, and force field capacitors. All the armor and weapons on Axalara T9 are made of Protosteel.

After the Toa Nuva entered the Codrex, Lewa discovered the Axalara T9. Shortly afterwards, Antroz revealed himself and hijacked the Jetrax T6. Pohatu immediately took chase on the Rockoh T3, and Lewa soon followed on the Axalara T9. When the Rockoh T3 was shot down, Lewa prepared to charge into the Jetrax T6.

Swamp Strider:

The Swamp Strider is a vehicle made by Toa Helryx. She made the original prototype roughly 100,000 years ago. A new model, also created by Helryx, was given to the Ko-Matoran Mazeka. It has four razor sharp legs and a heavily armed Midak Skyblaster that is capable of making a full rotation around the mount.

Toa Phantoka/Phantoms of The Sky

Toa Phantoka

Lewa, Kopaka, and Pohatu in their new armor.

The return of the Toa Mahri signals the leave of the Toa Nuva. After completing a series of “jobs”, their final destination leads them to Karda Nui.

The Toa split into two groups to make sure they save Mata Nui before the evil Makuta. But now with the team split in half, how will they survive the troubles lying ahead?

Toa Phantoka Kopaka:

In Karda Nui, the six Toa Nuva split into two teams. Tahu, Gali, and Onua went down to the Swamp of Secrets in search of a special item that could help Mata Nui, while Kopaka, Lewa, and Pohatu stayed back to help the Matoran. When the three Toa started to battle against the Makuta, Kopaka was defeated by Vamprah, who used his Avsa to drain Kopaka’s energies.

Kopaka then flew over to a Shadow Matoran village and takes Kirop hostage. The Toa then wait for Kirop to awaken and begin a discussion about a planned attack on the Makuta’s Shadow Leech Hive. As expected, Kirop flew to the hive, leading the three Toa straight to it.

After they broke in, Kopaka and Solek confronted Mutran. Solek was knocked unconscious quickly and Kopaka had faked defeat at the hands of Mutran’s mental powers. When given the chance he then struck back and froze Mutran. Then Antroz, Chirox, and Vamprah arrived and defeated them. The Makuta held them hostage for a short time, but were rescued by Pohatu and Toa Ignika, who had destroyed the Shadow Leech Hive.

The Makuta, with Icarax now in Karda Nui, then launched an assault on the sole remaining Av-Matoran Village, only to find out no one was there. By the time they realized it, Kopaka and his team had taken the third Keystone from their lair and ambushed the Makuta. Antroz almost destroyed Kopaka’s armor, but the tide changed when Ignika joined in and defeated Icarax by devolving him back into a biomechanical being. After Antroz’s armor was pierced, the Makuta retreated following a Nova blast of Shadow released by Mutran. After following the Makuta, Kopaka and the others arrived in the Swamp of Secrets just in time to freeze Antroz’s oncoming Shadow blast. They then joined with the other Toa Nuva for the final battle against the Makuta. He was going to ride the Jetrax T6, but Antroz hijacked it. Soon later, during a battle, Kopaka retrieved back the Jetrax T6

Toa Phantoka Lewa:

In Karda Nui, Lewa battled Makuta and forced them into retreating. Tanma and the other Av-Matoran then had the Toa return to their shelter so as to explain the situation. After being told of the Makuta in Karda Nui, the Toa Nuva decided to split into two teams. Kopaka would later capture Kirop in the hopes that he would lead them to the Makuta’s base. Kirop manage to escape, with the Toa followed him. Once they arrived at the hive, Kopaka said that he and Solek would challenge Mutran and the others were to search for the shadow leeches. Mutran created an illusion by making them see the hive as long tunnels and making Toa Ignika looking like a monster. They attacked, unknowningly that it was really Toa Ignika and the Toa used his powers to accelerate their ages but was stopped by Pohatu. Then he and his fellow Toa were knocked out and later chained. Mutran held up a leech and it almost drained Lewa but Pohatu used his powers to knock Mutran and Antroz off of their feet. Once they were outside, Lewa, Kopaka, and Pohatu combined their powers to knock down the hive but the stone was organic, healing its damaged. Toa Ignika came up and used his powers that snapped the cord that held the hive.

Later, the Makuta attacked the last village but he and his Toa were already gone, retrieving the third keystone. After a firece battle, the Makuta retreated to the swamp below. Lewa and the rest of the Toa followed them. When they arrived, they reunited with the other Toa, and prepared for a final battle.

Toa Phantoka Pohatu:

After arriving in Karda Nui, Pohatu charged into battle, with both sides retreating. The Nuva then decided to split into two teams, Lewa, Pohatu, and Kopaka stayed above in the sky and Tahu, Gali and Onua went to the swamp below.

Kopaka captured Kirop and stole the second Keystone from him. They then tricked him into leading the Toa to the Shadow Leech Hive. When they reached the hive, Kopaka and Solek stayed to confront Mutran while the others searched the Hive for the Shadow Leeches. They accidentally passed the vats, which were cloaked in an illusion of Mutran’s, and found that Toa Ignika had been replaced by a gigantic Rahi. They attacked, but the Toa Ignika struck back. Pohatu managed to stop the Toa, recognizing his mask, realizing that it was the Ignika. Suddenly, the five were attacked by Antroz, Chirox, and Vamprah. Mutran attempted to infect Lewa, but Pohatu rescued them and the four Toa and three Matoran sped out of the the hive using Pohatu’s Kakama Nuva, pausing only to destroy the Shadow Leech vats. The Toa then stole the third Keystone from the Makuta’s base and confronted them. The five Makuta retreated to the Swamp of Secrets, and the Toa followed.

Pohatu, Photok, Tanma, Solek, Kopaka, and Lewa arrived in the swamp. The Toa Nuva reunited, and then prepared to fight the final battle against the Makuta.

Let’s Swim With The Toa Mahri

Toa Mahri

Toa Mahri.

After a long and hard battle, The Kanohi Ignika falls into the sea. Now the Toa Inika will have to use new armor and weapons to save the universe.

Once, they were the powerful Toa Inika. Now the energies of the Mask of Life have transformed them into the undersea warriors, the Toa Mahri. Armed with Cordak blasters, new weapons, and new masks, the Toa Mahri must challenge the evil Barraki to save the life of Mata Nui.

Toa Mahri Jaller:

Jaller as a Toa Mahri.Toa Mahri.

After they had reached Mahri Nui through the Cord connecting Voya Nui, the Toa Inika were hit by a energy blast emitting from the Mask of Life. It was a cry of help. The blast changed the Inika into the water-breathing Toa Mahri. After some investigating, they found the underwater city of Mahri Nui. But before the Matoran could trust them, they had to free the city’s supplies of air bubbles from attackers. While Matoro was left behind to talk with Defilak, the leader of Mahri Nui’s council, Jaller and the rest went to help free the Fields of Airweed. At this point, he was already slightly annoyed with Matoro for taking more control over the team.

As soon as they got there, they were intercepted by the Barraki and their armies of sea creatures. The Barraki then took the five Toa with them to a series of sea caves, and then departed. Although Pridak insisted they were “guests”, the creatures of the deep guarding their caves made it clear they were not supposed to leave. While the other Toa hastily made their escapes, Jaller headed over to help Kongu. During that time the heat and light from Jaller’s Power Sword attracted a Hahnah crab which would continue to follow him for most of his undersea mission. Jaller suggested Kongu use his mask, but he wouldn’t do it. After last time, he was afraid what might come next. Finally getting fed up, he unleashed an underwater cyclone and scattered the rays guarding him. Before he knew it, they were attacked by two of the Barraki, Carapar and Kalmah, who had come to check on them. Kongu was hit with a Sea Squid, and was quickly pushed out of the fight. He would have died if not for the Hahnah Crab that was following Jaller. It leaped onto his back and killed the squid, giving Kongu enough strength back to use his mask. He summoned a monstrous, 200 foot long sea serpent from an age when it was dwarfed by its fellow beasts. The Barraki quickly retreated, and the beast became locked in combat with the revived giant Venom Eel. The two Toa quickly departed to avoid the conflict. On the way back to Mahri Nui, Kongu and Jaller ran into Hewkii, Nuparu, and Hahli. They had just been in Hydraxon’s armory, and found a load of multi-barreled weapons called Cordak Blasters. Jaller remained as the leader of the Mahri throughout the mission but felt frustrated that Matoro was taking some control because of the fact that he was destined to hold the Ignika. He was also a bit frustrated that Hahli, being in her own element kept going off and doing her own thing.

Matoro warned the other Toa that the Stone Cord must be destroyed to continue on their mission. Jaller and the other Mahri evacuated the Matoran of Mahri Nui up the cord to meet up with Axonn and the Matoran of Voya Nui, where the Matoran found shelter in the underground caverns of Voya Nui where they would be safe when Voya Nui descended back to it’s original location in it’s dome. Axonn then provided the Mahri with a Toa Terrain Crawler to assist them. At that point the Mahri headed down the cord in the Toa Terrain Crawler and a major conflict between them Hydraxon, Gadunka, Maxilos, and the Barraki occurred. During this conflict, Jaller was able to obtain the Mask of Life and passed it on to Matoro. The Mahri then used their Cordak Blasters to destroy the stone cord, and Voya Nui started to descend back down to its dome. Voya Nui smashed Mahri Nui into rubble as it sank. During this time, the Barraki were still in pursuit of the Toa Mahri, who were racing down trying to make it to the hole connecting the dome below to the water they were in. Mata Nui died just as they started to descend.

Matoro decided to follow Voya Nui, believing that something could still be done. Jaller told Matoro to go on ahead without the rest of the team, who would prevent the Barraki from catching him as he went on to try and save Mata Nui. Believing that the five remaining Mahri were going to lose against the Barraki, Jaller decided to perform a Nova Blast, which would kill the Barraki as well as all the other Toa. Before he could release the devastating blast of energy, he and the four other Mahri with him were teleported to Metru Nui by the power of the Ignika, and given the ability to breathe air (the Hahnah crab was left behind in the sea). Fortunately, Jaller was able to contain his power. Vakama then approached the Toa Mahri and explained to them what happened to Matoro.

After Matoro’s death, Jaller and the other Toa Mahri assisted Takanuva in defending Metru Nui. Together, they defeated the Kardas Dragon, which had ventured down from Mata Nui. Later, when the Toa Mahri went to look for Takanuva who had mysterious disappeared, Jaller stayed behind, still troubled by the death of his comrade. When the other Mahri returned, they encountered the Toa Hagah, who told them that they had come to destroy the Coliseum. The Toa Mahri attacked the Hagah, believing them to be impostors. The teams fought to a stalemate, but were forced to band together to stop a giant Rahi accidentally released by Kualus.

The teams forged a truce, and the Hagah revealed to the Toa the reasons for their sudden appearance, and their need to get underneath the Coliseum. The eleven Toa then worked together on lifting the Coliseum, with Jaller helping Norik, Nuparu, and Pouks make a tunnel leading underneath the ancient structure.

Jaller wanted to go after Teridax with the Hagah, but Norik told him that if they fail and Teridax escapes, then the Toa Mahri would be the last hope of stopping him. Jaller then watched the six Toa seal the tunnel behind themselves, commenting grimly that he has never seen anyone seal their own tomb before.

Later, Jaller and his team were given the Heart of the Visorak by the Order of Mata Nui and was told to go to Artidax to use it for unknown reasons.

Toa Mahri Matoro:

Matoro as a Toa Mahri.

After they had reached Mahri Nui through the Cord connecting Voya Nui, the Toa Inika were hit by an energy blast emitting from the Mask of Life. It was a cry of help. The blast changed the Inika into the water-breathing Toa Mahri. After some research, they found the underwater city of Mahri Nui. But before the Matoran could trust them, they had to free the cityĀ“s supplies of air bubbles from attackers. Matoro stayed at the city, while the other Toa encountered the Barraki. Hahli started to play along on behalf of the group to make the Barraki think they were allies. But the city’s Matoran noticed this, and thought that the Toa were as evil as the Barraki, forcing Matoro to flee. Hydraxon, the revived jailer of the Pit, found Matoro and put him under the guard of Maxilos, a robot. But Maxilos was possessed by Teridax. Teridax freed Matoro, and said he would help the Toa, but Matoro must not reveal Maxilos’ true identity. Matoro and Maxilos joined with the other Toa at Mahri Nui, and under Maxilos’ suggestion, the team split up. Matoro and Makuta met Pridak and battled him and his army of Takea sharks. Matoro used his mask power to reanimate dead sea creatures, and soon the water was a battlefield. Some time later, in the ruins of the original Pit, Matoro and Makuta found the armor of Toa Tuyet. Makuta wanted Matoro to revive Tuyet and rebuild the Nui Stone from little pieces on Tuyet’s armor (this with the help of an artifact called Staff of Artakha). Hahli encountered them, and Matoro tried to tell her that he was in trouble. Hahli got the message, but she had no idea how to help him. Matoro and Makuta later found Karzahni, who had followed the Toa from his realm. Karzahni destroyed Tuyet (which Matoro has revived), and attacked them both with his mask power. But Makuta retaliated and defeated Karzahni. What happened next is unknown, but Icarax, another Makuta, retrieved the Staff and gave it to Maxilos. He was recreating the Nui stone when Brutaka took the Staff and gave it to Botar.

Makuta later told Matoro that, in order to save Mata Nui’s life, the Stone Cord must be destroyed. Matoro shared the information with the other Toa Mahri, and proceeded to take all the Matoran to Voya Nui’s underground caverns. He then helped to destroy the Cord, making Voya Nui to sink and crushing Mahri Nui in the way. He, along with the other Toa, was pulled by a strong force and began to follow Voya Nui. But the the Mask of Life (retrieved by the Toa from the Barraki in a past battle) grew dark and Matoro proclaimed that Mata Nui was dead.

Matoro knew that things could not end this way, and so asked the other Toa to try to buy him time while he tried to resurrect Mata Nui. Jaller believed this to be insane, but they did this regardless. Matoro then followed Voya Nui as it sped down into the sea. Matoro eventually reached the Southern Continent, and fell down the waterfall which was caused by Voya Nui’s breakoff. He managed to slip into Karda Nui moments before Voya Nui made impact. Once there, he continued to journey down the remnants of the waterfall, when a voice told Matoro to use the Ignika. Matoro placed on the mask, and realized that he would die as a result. As one of his last acts as an individual, he teleported his friends, the other Toa Mahri, back to Metru Nui and gave them back their ability to breathe air. Matoro then saw a being flying below him. The Ignika transformed Matoro into pure energy which was used to revive the Great Spirit Mata Nui from death. In doing so, Matoro willingly died, his final resting place being the skies above the villages of Karda Nui.

In Metru Nui, Turaga Onewa constructed a statue of Toa Mahri Matoro in his honor.

Toa Mahri Hahli:

Toa Mahri Hahli as a set.Toa Mahri.

Hahli, along with the rest of the Toa Inika, journeyed down The Cord. During their way, they battled against a group of Zyglak, and escaped into the seas of The Pit when the 300 Feet Mutant Venom Eel began to squeeze it. The Toa Inika then started battling against the eel. During the fight, the Kanohi Ignika unleashed a cry of help, transforming the Toa Inika into the Toa Mahri. The Toa Mahri managed to defeat the Venom Eel, and proceeded towards Mahri Nui.

Upon arrival, they were attacked by the Matoran there, believing the Toa to be enemies. Hahli managed to convince the Matoran that they were Toa, and that they will not harm the Matoran there. While Matoro stayed behind, the other Toa Mahri proceeded to the Fields of Airweed, where they were asked to clear it of the Keras Crabs. When they reached the fields, the Toa confronted the Barraki and was escorted into sea caves. Hahli later used her Kanohi Faxon to hypnotize the squid guarding her cave, and began to explore the sea floor for the Mask of Life.

While exploring, she was attacked by Mantax. Using her Cordak Blaster, she fired at the Barraki and wounded him with her Protosteel Talons. While Mantax made preparations to attack Hahli once more, she used her mask to turn chameleon, then, seeing Mantax’s head, she fired, only to find herself in a decoy and having Mantax using his paralyzing venom to paralyze her. However, Hahli used her Faxon once more to adapt the ability to counter-act poison, and she confronted Mantax, causing the Barraki to believe that his fellow Barraki had betrayed him. The two came to a compromise, and Hahli was named the lieutenant of Mantax’s army.

Later, Hahli attacked Hydraxon as the Pit guardian tried to destroy the Mask of Life. However, during the attack, the mask was lost to Mantax, who demanded for the other Barraki to meet with him. Meanwhile, Hahli and the others convinced the Matoran of Mahri Nui to journey up The Cord and return to Voya Nui. On the way, the Toa were ambushed by the now-mutated Piraka. During an attempt by Avak to suffocate the Toa using his prison powers, Axonn sent out a blast, stunning and knocking out both the Piraka and Toa. After reviving, the Toa talked with Axonn, who brought them to a cave holding the Toa Terrain Crawler. The Toa Mahri then entered the creature, who took them down to the waters of The Pit.

Once in The Pit, the Toa Mahri split up, with Hahli and Nuparu attempting to keep the Barraki out of the trouble involving Gadunka. Unfortunately, this proved to be a failure, as the Barraki were departing from all sides. Later, the two Toa Mahri rescued Hewkii from the jaws of Gadunka.

The three Toa then reunited with their comrades, and prepared to destroy The Cord when Gadunka, along with the 300 Feet Mutant Venom Eel and the Ancient Sea Behemoth appeared. The Toa Mahri then began to battle the three Rahi, during which Hahli used her Faxon to become bio-luminescent, luring the Ancient Sea Behemoth into a trap made by Kongu. The Toa Mahri then destroyed The Cord, and followed Matoro, who now had the Kanohi Ignika once more, with the Barraki and their armies right behind them.

During their chase, the Toa Mahri all experienced Mata Nui’s death, and they decided that while Matoro made a final attempt to revive Mata Nui, the other Toa would battle against the Barraki and their armies. After an emotional farewell, the five Toa turned and faced the Barraki, preparing to give up their lives for Mata Nui’s life.

The Toa fought a desperate battle, with about 100,000 troops against five Toa. Very soon, it became clear to the Toa that they would lose, and Jaller declared that he shall launch a Nova Blast, sacrificing the Toa and killing all their enemies so that Matoro could revive Mata Nui. However, while channeling his powers, Matoro was using the Kanohi Ignika to revive Mata Nui. Knowing that he must die, the Toa of Ice teleported the Toa Mahri back to Metru Nui in his last moments of life, turning them back to air-breathers once more.

In Metru Nui, Hahli and the others learned of Matoro’s fate from Vakama. Hahli later recounted their adventures to Kopeke, the new Chronicler, and later departed to a memorial of Matoro in the Coliseum. Since then, she and the other Toa Mahri have taken over the defense of Metru Nui. In doing so, they defeated and captured the Kardas Dragon. She later went to search for the mysteriously missing Takanuva with the other Toa Mahri (except Jaller), and when she returned, they encountered the Toa Hagah, who told them that they had come to destroy the Coliseum. Both teams of Toa were soon locked in a ferocious battle, one that Hahli unintentionally ended when she blasted Toa Kualus after he summoned a giant Rahi, disrupting his control and setting the beast on a rampage. Once the beast had been stopped, Hahli worked together with Gaaki to put out the resulting fires, and then cooled the walls of a tunnel formed beneath the Coliseum by the combined efforts of the Toa of Fire and Stone of each team. Hahli, like Jaller, wished to accompany the Hagah into the depths, but remained behind at the Hagah’s insistence, checking on Hewkii after he passed out from the effort of holding the Coliseum aloft and then lowering it back into place.

Toa Mahri Kongu:

Kongu as a Toa Mahri.Toa Mahri.

Soon after the transformation, Kongu was the first to discover his new mask power. When the 300 foot mutant Venom Eel attacked them, he attempted to read its mind. Instead, hundreds of smaller versions of the creature surrounded him, and he bolted away in surprise. A battle quickly broke out, and the other Toa discovered, to their distress, that their masks had changed powers. The Venom Eel quickly gained the upper hand, until Hewkii, with his new Mask of Gravity, pinned the Eel to the sea floor and knocked it unconscious.

After that confrontation, the team spotted Mahri Nui in the distance and headed off for it. As soon as they got there, they were hit with a hail of Solidified Air Bubbles, until Jaller convinced them to stop. While Matoro was left behind to talk with Defilak, the leader of Mahri Nui’s council, Kongu and the rest went to help free the Fields of Airweed.

He suggested he use his mask, but Kongu wouldn’t do it. He summoned a monstrous, Ancient Sea Behemoth from an age when it was dwarfed by its fellow beasts.

Each Toa Mahri took one, but Kongu immediately took two. When the others gave him questioning looks, he simply said: “Two hands.”

When they arrived at Mahri Nui, they expected to find Matoro waiting for them. Instead, they were hit with hundreds of Solidified Air Bubbles. When Kongu used his power to shove Defilak into the ocean, Hahli circled him at super speed, ripping his personal air bubble away from him. After he was thrown back into the city, he stopped the attack. They then agreed to ally with each other, and met up with Matoro. He introduced Maxilos and his pet, Spinax. What the Toa Mahri did not know was that Makuta was in Maxilos’s body, and he had only told Matoro about it. The Mahri agreed to split up and search for the Ignika. Kongu went with Jaller, Hewkii with Nuparu, Matoro with Maxilos and Spinax, and Hahli volunteered to go on her own. Before they left, Defilak told them he was honored to have them protecting Mahri Nui, and said they could call them “Toa Mahri”. The team promised to try and prove worthy of the trust placed in them.

Afterwards, the Mahri split up (again) at the suggestion of Maxilos, in the search for the mask. Jaller decided to take Kongu with him, Hewkii with Nuparu, and Matoro went with Maxilos. Hahli volunteered to go by herself, because she could travel faster on her own. Matoro warned the other Toa that the Stone Cord must be destroyed to continue on their mission. Kongu and the other Mahri evacuated the Matoran of Mahri Nui up the cord to meet up with Axonn and the Matoran of Voya Nui, where the Matoran found shelter in the underground caverns of Voya Nui where they would be safe when Voya Nui descended back to it’s original location in it’s dome.

Believing that the five remaining Mahri were going to lose against the Barraki, Jaller decided to perform a Nova Blast, which would kill the Barraki…as well as all five of the Toa. Before Jaller could release the devastating blast of energy, Matoro teleported the other five Toa Mahri to Metru Nui and gave them the ability to breathe air. Fortunately, Jaller was able to contain his power. Vakama then approached the Toa Mahri and explained to them what happened to Matoro.

The Toa then became occupied with defending the island-city of Metru Nui, and defeated the Kardas Dragon for a second time. Kongu and the Toa Mahri, sans Jaller, also left Metru Nui in search of Takanuva, but returned when they failed to find him. Upon their return, the Toa Hagah arrived in Metru Nui and informed the Toa Mahri that they were there to destroy the Coliseum. Uninformed regarding the Hagah’s search for Makuta Teridax, Kongu and the other Mahri engaged them in battle, which came to a halt when it inadvertently set a giant Rahi on the loose in the city. Kongu combined his powers with those of Iruini, Norik, and Jaller to stop the monster, and he and Iruini then watched over Zaktan, former leader of the Piraka, who had been assigned to guide the Hagah on their quest to find Teridax.

Toa Mahri Hewkii:

Hewkii as a Toa Mahri.

pon reaching the bottom of the Cord, Hewkii and his companions were changed into Toa Mahri by an explosion of light energy from the Ignika. This had the added affect of knocking the six Toa unconscious for a time. After quickly recovering, they engaged the 300 foot-long Venom Eel which had been squeezing the Cord. During the battle, Hewkii used his new Garai to increase the eel’s gravity, sending it slamming into the seafloor.

The Toa then began exploring, when they encountered the city of Mahri Nui. At first, Defilak ordered them attacked, but the Toa negotiated, leaving Matoro behind while the rest would free the fields of Airweed from the Barraki’s armies. After a showdown between the five Toa and six Barraki, the Mahri were taken captive and imprisonded in caves. Hewkii used his Garai once again to dispose of his Takea shark guard, and watched as Hahli and Nuparu also made their escape.

Nuparu, Hewkii, and Hahli began exploring the sea caves in search of the Mask of Life. Nuparu discovered a weapons cache used by the Barraki. Inside were several Cordak Blasters that the Toa took for themselves, after Nuparu nearly shot Hewkii with one by mistake.

Later, the two Toa were investigating a large group of Venom Eels when they were attacked by Gadunka. The pair was forced into a trench filled with holes in which a breed of eyeless eel lived. Escaping the trench, the two reunited with the other Toa, and Hewkii was tasked with defeating Gadunka, and he chose to attempt to beat him without the help of any of his powers. He was nearly defeated, but was saved by Hahli. The Toa were then told by Matoro that they had to destroy the Cord.

Before the Toa Mahri could destroy the Cord, Gadunka, the 300 foot mutant Venom Eel, and the Ancient Sea Behemoth attacked them. Hewkii again defeated the Venom Eel using his Garai. Then, the Toa Mahri destroyed the Cord, destroying Mahri Nui and causing Voya Nui to plunge into the water.

When Mata Nui died, Hewkii assisted his fellow Toa Mahri in fending off the Barraki and their armies while buying Matoro time to bring the Great Spirit back to life. It was he who stopped a school of Takea from following Matoro by increasing their weight several hundred times. When Jaller started to go Nova, Hewkii protested, but only for a moment, sensing that it was the only option. He was fighting fiercely alongside Hahli when Matoro teleported him and the other Toa Mahri back to Metru Nui. He was the first to notice that they were all breathing air once more.

He and the remaining Toa Mahri now reside in Metru Nui as its protectors. Since returning to Metru Nui, they defeated and captured the Kardas Dragon after it came through the tunnels from Mata Nui. He later ventured out in search of Takanuva with three of the other Toa, with Jaller staying behind. When Hewkii and the others returned to Metru Nui, the Toa Hagah were teleported right before them. After meeting resistance from the Toa Mahri, Norik informed the Toa that they were there to destroy the Coliseum. The Toa Mahri then fought the Toa Hagah, believing them to be impostors. Hewkii was fighting Toa Iruini, but was beaten when he swung his chains at the Toa and Iruini grabbed it and smashed Hewkii into a rock wall. Later, when Kualus used his mask to summon a giant three-headed Rahi to defeat Nuparu and lost control of it and the beast flung Nuparu into the air, Hewkii used his mask to change the gravity around the Toa of Earth in a way he had never done before, which saved Nuparu. The giant Rahi was later defeated by the combined efforts of the two Toa teams.

When Toa Norik revealed to the Mahri that the answers to the many mysteries and secrets of the universe were located underneath the Coliseum and that Makuta Teridax was already down there, the five Toa Mahri helped the Hagah create a tunnel leading under the Coliseum. Hewkii helped Bomonga and Kualus hold up the structure by using his Garai, but when the six Toa went down the tunnel, Hewkii was left to hold up the Coliseum by himself. As soon as he set the building down, he later passed out from the extreme effort it cost him.

Toa Mahri Nuparu:

Nuparu as a Toa Mahri.Toa Mahri.

Upon first entering the water, Nuparu and the other Mahri were confronted by a giant Venom Eel, enlarged by the Mask of Life. Their masks and tools altered, they were forced to adjust to the change in the middle of combat. After a brief battle, Hewkii used his Garai to sink the creature to the bottom of the ocean. They then proceeded towards Mahri Nui, immediately conflicting with the local Matoran. Jaller eventually convinced them that they were not there to harm them, and had Matoro converse with the head of their council. The rest of the Toa set out to free the Fields of Airweed, as per their agreement with Defilak. Unfortunately, they were captured by the Barraki, and imprisoned in small coverns guarded by various sea creatures commanded by the Barraki. Utilizing their masks and powers, the Toa escaped their confinement, and split up to search the ocean. Nuparu stumbled upon a cave filled with weapons. Testing a Cordak Blaster, Nuparu deemed it satisfactory, and added it to their arsenal. Hewkii met up with him then, and, taking a load of Cordak Blasters, found the other Toa, who each took a blaster, with Kongu forgoing his melee weapon for a second one.

While exploring, Nuparu and Hewkii were ambushed by Ehlek, who knocked them into a crevice, and knocking the Toa unconscious. Upon awakening, Hewkii found himself being attacked by albino eels, and quickly woke Nuparu. Nuparu then devised a plan and set it into motion, creating a pillar of earth to raise them up to the top of the chasm while Hewkii fended off the eels with his Cordak Blaster. At the surface, they were again ambushed by Ehlek and a portion of his army. However, Hewkii used his Garai to send a few passing Takea sharks into the midst of the eels, igniting a battle between the eels and the sharks. Using the battle as a distraction, the two Toa made their escape.

Nuparu and Hewkii then joined their fellow Toa, where they were informed that The Cord needed to be destroyed as part of their task to save Mata Nui. To save the Matoran, the Toa led them up the Cord to Voya Nui. Along the way, they were ambushed by the Piraka, who had been mutated into being just heads and spines. They were saved by a timely blast of electricity from Axonn, who took the Piraka into custody and brought the Matoran and Toa to Voya Nui. Axonn informed the Toa that he would hide the Matoran on Voya Nui, and took the Toa to a chamber containing the Toa Terrain Crawler, which transported them back to Mahri Nui. Nuparu helped Hahli delay the Barraki, and the two went to the aid of Hewkii, who was losing against the Gadunka. They won the fight, and prepared to destroy the Cord, but were interrupted by the revived Gadunka, the enlarged Venom Eel, and an ancient creature that Kongu had summoned earlier. With the others knocked out, Nuparu attempted to delay Gadunka, but was struck down by the creature. Gadunka tried to grab the Ignika from Matoro’s hands, but the mask shrunk him down to his normal size.

Revived, the Mahri proceeded to destroy the Cord, despite a short confrontation with Hydraxon. Its anchor destroyed, Voya Nui plunged into the sea and crushed Mahri Nui, before shooting off deeper into the ocean. Nuparu and the others followed it, until stopped by the Barraki. As Matoro hurried after Voya Nui with the Ignika, the other Toa Mahri attempted to delay the Barraki long enough for Matoro to get where he had to go. As a last act of friendship before he died, Matoro used the Ignika to transport the other Toa Mahri back to Metru Nui, just in time to save their lives. Nuparu was the first to discover Matoro missing, and they were soon after informed by Vakama that he was dead.

After returning to Metru Nui, Nuparu and the other Toa Mahri became its new guardians, having fulfilled their destiny. In doing so, they defeated and captured the Kardas after it ventured to Metru Nui. Following that event, Nuparu went in search of Takanuva with Hahli, Kongu, and Hewkii. Unable to find him, they returned to the island-city, and were soon confronted by the Toa Hagah, who had arrived to destroy the Coliseum. Despite Bomonga’s superior experience, Nuparu was able to avoid him using his Mask of Stealth until Kualus exposed him with a snowstorm, and even then continued to attack the other Toa of Earth. The conflict was halted when a giant Rahi summoned by Kualus to grab Nuparu escaped his control due to an attack by Hahli, resulting in Nuparu being thrown so hard that only skillful manipulation of Gravity by Hewkii prevented his death. Once the beast had been defeated, Nuparu worked together with Jaller, Norik, and Pouks to create a tunnel under the lifted Coliseum to allow the Hagah to travel beneath the city in search of Makuta Teridax.

Storm of Friendship, Birth of Toa Inika

Toa Inika

The Toa Inika promotional image.

The Toa are brave but when danger comes afoot, six new heroes come to save the day. They are called the Toa Inika.

They arrived on Voya Nui as Matoran villagers on a rescue mission. Once on the floating island, they were hit by lightning bolts from the Red Star, which transformed them into Toa Inika. Their mission: find the Mask of Life and use it to save the Great Spirit Mata Nui.

Toa Inika Jaller:

Transformed into Toa, Jaller along with his fellow Toa Inika, found a cave on Voya Nui. There, they discovered that their masks were now organic as well as the mask powers of Kongu and Nuparu, amongst other discoveries, such as describing how their faces lit up. Soon, they set off on an expedition in hope to find clues of whereabouts are the Toa Nuva. Eventually, they came across Vezok and a battle raged out, resulting in the Toa’s victory. After the battle, Vezok escaped and the Inika met with the Voya Nui Resistance Team, there they learned about the Piraka and possibly where the Toa Nuva might be. As a result, the Toa and Matoran split into teams. Matoro, Hewkii, Kazi and Balta would go off to search for someone who would turn out to be Axonn; Kongu, Nuparu, Velika and Garan set off to attack the Piraka Stronghold while Jaller, Hahli, Dalu and Piruk set off with Zamor Spheres filled with Energized Protodermis to free the Matoran who were enslaved to drain the lava out of Mount Valmai. An important discovery was made when Kazi’s group found Axonn. He was in pain because of his battle with Brutaka. This gave his group an important urgency to go to the stronghold. Kongu and his group discovered that all but the bottom of a Nektann is armored, and they found a tablet inscribed with the words ‘Vezok’ and ‘Vezon’, it was then that it was revealed that Vezon means ‘double’ in Matoran. Their most disturbing discovery was a room filled with the Toa Nuva’s masks.

After the jobs were complete, the Toa and Matoran headed off to the Stronghold. There they re-united with the others and a battle between the Piraka and the Toa Inika began. The battle was abruptly ended when Hakann and Thok used a special Zamor Sphere to drain Brutaka’s powers. The rest of the Piraka and Toa was knocked unconscious, all but Nuparu who returned after wetting Zaktan in the sea. The Inika and the rest of the Piraka soon struck a deal, and were given assistance by Axonn, who gave Jaller the special Zamor Sphere that was later used by him to freeze both Vezon and Kardas Dragon in space and time in order to get the Ignika. The remaining Piraka and Inika advanced on to where Hakann and Thok had gone. An explosion created by Hakann let them know where the two were. The Piraka decided to go another way than the Inika, for their own reasons.

The first to the find the two Piraka was Zaktan. Immediately, a lengthy battle ensued. In the end, Brutaka’s power was sent back to Brutaka, and no one on the battlefield, except for Zaktan, was conscious. When the Inika awoke, they realized that the Piraka had gone down the staircase, and the Inika followed them. The battles for the Ignika had began.

As they walked down the staircase, the Inika encountered an incarnation of the mask, Lhikan. After they conversed with him, they continued down the staircase. The first challenge for the Inika was where they would have to face their fears. They encountered a Muaka, Nui-Rama, Bohrok, Bohrok-Kal, Rahkshi, and Teridax. Jaller fought against a Turahk and when he tried to create a wall of flame, the lightning of his fire jolted the Turahk, killing him. The Inika put up a valiant battle, and somehow killed each of their opponents by accident. It was then that their opponents turned into none other than the Toa Nuva. Shocked by the fact that they had killed their heroes, they wondered if they should go on. After deciding to go, the illusion of the Nuva disappeared, it had been a trick after all. After the battle, they entered the Chamber of Death. A voice of a Great Being told them that if they were to go on, one of them must die. Jaller heroically volunteered to, but the memory of his death in the Mask of Light saga stopped him. Matoro stepped up, and said that he had nothing to offer for the team. Before the Inika could argue, he already was disintegrating because of his choice. After a few minutes, he was rebuilt, and the voice said that it does not matter if one dies, it matters if one is willing to die for their cause. And so, the Inika moved on, and encountered a mysterious Rahi known as the Protodax. After fighting a losing battle with them, Umbra stepped in, and stopped the Protodax, as he was the one to kill those with minds who wished to get the mask. The Inika fought with Umbra, and barely made it to the bridge leading to the Mask of Life. The Piraka put traps there, but the Inika fought on, and made it to Vezon and Fenrakk. After defeating them, the mask flew off, going into the ocean.

The Inika attempted to find it, but were unsuccessful, and met up with the Toa Nuva. After talking for a while with them, the Inika traveled down The Cord, leading to Mahri Nui. There they fought a tribe of Zyglak.

Toa Inika Matoro:

While helping the Matoran rebuild Metru Nui, Matoro was placed with one of the most difficult matters a Matoran could deal with – he once again had to keep the dark secret of Mata Nui’s fate from his fellows. When Jaller tried to question him he explained how painful it was to try to choose between betraying his Turaga and lying to his friend – fortunately Jaller was able to interpret Matoro’s reaction well enough to assume something bad had happened. After learning the truth from Nokama he gathered Matoro and four other Matoran and traveled with them into the realm of Karzahni in search of Voya Nui. During this trip they encountered a tunnel that absorbed all light. Here Matoro unknowingly was contacted by the power of the Mask of Life and found worthy to be its carrier.

They arrived in Karzahni after being guided there by giant Manas. There they lost their masks to Karzahni, but were able to escape his torment via six Toa Canisters they found hidden within his lair. Before leaving Matoro was able to stun Karzahni by daring him to show them the worst fate he could possibly pick from their minds, and this of course was the death of Mata Nui. Karzahni, who had earlier not believed in the Great Spirit, saw the power of such a being and what it meant now that there was nobody of such power in place anymore.

After arriving on Voya Nui and discovering his newly endowed Toa powers, Matoro was one of the first to discover his mask power. He was jolted into finding his body on the ground and his spirit floating without any support. He flew away and spotted the Voya Nui Resistance Team, came back and explained what he saw to Hahli. After he was able to return to his body, they all joined forces to face Vezok. He was targeted with a Zamor Launcher but was pleased to learn it had no effect on him. He used his powers on Vezok but was dismayed to find them absorbed by their opponent. He joined Kazi and Balta in searching out the injured Axonn after uniting with the Resistance, and launched an attack on the Piraka Fortress soon after.

During their descent to the Chamber of Life, the Toa Inika were challenged in the Chamber of Death to sacrifice one of their members to move on ahead. Before Jaller, as leader, could volunteer, Matoro stepped forward and was promptly killed. The other Toa were shocked until his body reconstituted itself, the team having passed the test by having the will to sacrifice one of their own. Jaller remained a little irked by the fact that Matoro seemed to be more willing to take the lead after this.

Matoro was prompted by Kongu to bear the Mask of Life after he had used his Suletu to find out the Mask’s intentions and saw it wanted Matoro as its bearer. He lost it after the Kardas Dragon revived and released a blast that knocked it from his hands. The Toa Inika followed the mask as it flew to the surface and then dove into the water. Axonn opened a hole in the ground that led to a tunnel that connected Voya Nui to Mahri Nui, so that the Toa could safely travel there.

While traveling down the Cord, Matoro was possessed at some point by Teridax while using his Iden. Once the others learned of this, they threatened to destroy Matoro’s body, leaving Teridax bodiless. Teridax then left Matoro’s body willingly.

Toa Inika Hahli:

After being chosen by Jaller, Hahli, along with Kongu, Nuparu, Hewkii, and Matoro began their journey to Voya Nui, along with Takanuva. The Matoran and Toa later reached an archway where Jaller’s company passed but Takanuva couldn’t. They then arrived at Karzahni’s realm where the ruler took Hahli’s mask and replaced it with another. She was then ordered to tell Karzahni about the “outside world” as Karzahni knew nothing outside of his realm. Hahli managed to escape with her friends in Toa Canisters which brought them to Voya Nui. On their arrival to Voya Nui, Hahli was struck by a bolt from the Red Star, transforming into a Toa Inika.

After a brief discussion in a cave, the Toa Inika began their quest to find the missing Toa Nuva. They encountered the Piraka Vezok, and started battling against the rogue Dark Hunter. After being victorious, the Toa Inika met with the Voya Nui Resistance Team, where they split up into 3 groups, with Hahli, Jaller, Dalu and Piruk as one team. The 4 beings departed to an enslaved Matoran group, and using Zamor Spheres filled with Energized Protodermis, they started freeing the Matoran. Hahli later reunited with the other Toa Inika, and started battling against the other Piraka.

During the battle, Piraka Hakann and Thok used a special Zamor Sphere to absorb the powers of Brutaka, gifting them with immense power, while knocking Brutaka out. The two Piraka quickly defeated the Toa and the other Piraka and began their search for the Ignika, Mask of Life. The Piraka and the Toa Inika, after reviving, followed the two and another battle took place, during which the Toa Inika returned the powers back to Brutaka using another special Zamor Sphere, but being knocked unconscious in the process.

By the time they revived, the Piraka had already began to journey down the 777 Stairs. The Toa Inika decided that they shall follow, and on their trip, they came across challenges such as Umbra and the Chamber of Death. Eventually, they reached the Chamber of Life, where they fought against Vezon and Fenrakk. The Toa Inika managed to push the couple into a pool of lava, but the couple re-emerged, unharmed, with Fenrakk now transformed into the Kardas Dragon. The Toa fought against the couple once more, but were getting defeated by Kardas’ powers. However, the Toa managed to freeze the couple in time using a Zamor Sphere created by Axonn.

After Vezon’s defeat, Matoro pried the Mask of Life from his head, only to have it fly from his hands and plunge into the ocean. Hahli attempted to retrieve it, but failed and would have drowned had she not been rescued by a Mahri Nui Matoran, who then subsequently died (presumably from something similar to decompression sickness). The Toa Inika later talked with the Toa Nuva, and was agreed that they shall continue the search for the Ignika, while the Nuva depart to prepare the universe for Mata Nui’s awakening.

Toa Inika Kongu:

After the return to Metru Nui, Kongu helped with the reconstruction work. However, he was invited to be a part of a group consisting of Jaller, Hahli, Matoro, Hewkii, and Nuparu to help find the Toa Nuva, who Jaller learnt had departed to Voya Nui to search for the Mask of Life but no news returned. The six Matoran, accompanied by Takanuva, travelled through underwater Chutes until they arrived at the south of a land bridge where they walked through. As they walked, they soon encountered a tunnel of sorts, which swallowed all light. After passing through the tunnel of darkness, the group soon found themselves before a stone arch. There, Hewkii discovered a Kanohi Suletu, of which he pried out of the ground. After wandering, Takanuva discovered that there were Matoran beyond the arch, and alerted the Matoran. The Matoran quickly entered the arch, although soon found that Takanuva could not enter and neither could they exit. After a long farewell, the Matoran continued onwards whilst Takanuva returns to Metru Nui.

The Matoran soon found themselves facing an enormous cliff, which they scaled. To their dismay, however, they found themselves facing Manas on the top of the cliff. A shy Matoran who the group had been following stopped, and beckoned the group forwards. Leaving the Manas behind, the group soon found themselves in the realm of Karzahni. The Matoran decided to retreat, but the Manas barred the way, trapping them in Karzahni. Soon, they were before the ruler of the realm, Karzahni himself, who announced their capturing and ordered them to take off their masks. He then made them wear new masks, but Kongu rejected his offered mask and wore the Suletu that they had found earlier.

Trapped in Karzahni, the ruler soon assigned them jobs which they were to attend to. After hours of work, Nuparu wandered off and found a tablet showing the history of Karzahni. The Matoran, except Hahli, who was to tell Karzahni about the “outside world”, soon discovered the a Matoran who made six canisters. Unfortunately, they were discovered by Karzahni, but managed to escape in the canisters after a brief confrontation.

While sailing in the canisters towards Voya Nui, the Red Star above sent six bolts of lightning onto each canister, transforming Kongu and co. into Toa.

There, Matoro found out that their face would glow if they took off their masks. However, Jaller understood Kongu’s mask worked like before. Kongu first “heard” Jaller thinking about a Muaka attack and from there on he found he couldn’t turn it off. Later, he was upset finding out Nuparu had gotten the Mask of Flight. However, he then decided to teach Nuparu how to fly. Then the Toa Inika fought Vezok and Kongu described his mind as a pesthole. When the Inika met up with the Voya Nui Resistance Team, Kongu was partnered with Velika, Garan and Nuparu. After defeating the Nektann on guard they found the Toa Nuva’s masks. Later they were ambushed by the Piraka and Brutaka but their comrades arrived. Kongu was imprisoned by Avak in a sucking air prison. However, Kongu sent tendrils of thought in his mind and, when the prison disappeared Kongu made the air pressure increase around Avak until he fell. However, he was later defeated by Hakann and Thok using Brutaka’s power. In the second fight against the two Piraka, Nuparu carried him in flight but they both fell because of Thok’s spellbinder vision. Later the Toa Inika descended the Mask of Life stairway.

When they arrived upon a mysterious zone, Kongu faced Makuta Teridax. As a casual thought crossed his mind, his Zamor Launcher fired on its own, killing the Makuta. Consequently their enemies turned into the Toa Nuva, causing the Toa to be shocked and were afraid of their abilities. Some debated whether or not they should proceed, but the Toa Inika went on and as the Toa Nuva disappeared as soon as they left the scene. Kongu realized they had been illusions, as he had not received any thoughts from them.

After passing through the Chamber of Death and defeating Umbra, the Toa arrived at the Lava Chamber Gate. Nuparu conjured an earthquake to shake the Piraka off their posts, but Kongu used a cyclone to blow Zaktan off. However, the bridge collapsed on the Toa. When they recovered, they went into the Chamber of Life and found Vezon and Fenrakk waiting for them. After many tries to defeat the two, Kongu created a vacuum around them. When that too proved unsuccessful, Jaller made the two slip into the lava. However, Vezon resurfaced along with the newly transformed Kardas Dragon. Jaller and Kongu were knocked out of the fight, but just when their comrades were about to be defeated, Jaller told Kongu to probe the Ignika’s thoughts and push them in Vezon’s. Kongu discovered the mask wanted Matoro as a new guardian. Pushing these thoughts into Vezon’s mind, the insane Skakdi went on a rant and was distracted enough for Jaller to make his move. The Toa of Fire froze Vezon and Kardas using a Zamor Sphere Axonn had given him. As Matoro took the mask from Vezon, Kardas blasted him and the mask flew up and out of the chamber. The newly awakened Piraka pursued the Toa and the mask. The mask then dove into the sea and Hahli dived in after it. However, the mask was too deep and Hahli, who nearly drowned, was rescued by a Matoran who mentioned a city beneath the waves before dying. The Toa then descended into The Cord and battled against the Zyglak, where they were later transformed by the Ignika into Toa Mahri.

Toa Inika Hewkii:

When Jaller recruited five Matoran from all over Metru Nui, one of his choices was Hewkii. Together, accompanied by Takanuva, they headed to Voya Nui. After a short journey through the tunnels, they reached Karzahni. Here, that place’s ruler forcibly replaced Hewkii’s Kakama with another mask (unbeknownst to Hewkii, it was a Matoran level Sanok). The six Matoran escaped and found six Toa canisters, which they used to transport them out of Karzahni and to Voya Nui. There, six lightning bolts from the Red Star transformed the Matoran into the Toa Inika. When the team encountered Piraka Vezok, Hewkii used his Mask of Accuracy to hurl a boulder at him, but Vezok was able to escape him.

After encountering the Voya Nui Resistance Team, Hewkii and Matoro teamed up with Kazi and Balta to free the infected Matoran. However, Kazi and Balta took them to a remote region of the island instead. Hewkii thought they were being lead into a trap, but it turned out that they had found a badly wounded titan instead. Matoro and Hewkii then hurried to their teammates’ aid in the Piraka Stronghold. Hewkii used his elemental power to encase Brutaka in a block of stone and continued fighting until Hakann and Thok stole Brutaka’s power and stunned the rest of the combatants. Awakening, Hewkii joined with the other Toa and Piraka, and after obtaining a Zamor sphere designed to return the stolen powers to Brutaka, headed to track down the two rogue Piraka. In a fierce battle, Hewkii triggered the Zamor, which knocked out Hakann and Thok only moments after they triggered a devastating strike, knocking out the six Toa Inika.

Awakening, Hewkii and the others headed down to the Chamber of Life. On the way, Hewkii faced an illusionary Bohrok, which transformed into an illusion of a Toa Nuva, in the Chamber of Fear. Once they arrived at the Chamber of Life, Jaller named Hewkii as his replacement as team leader in the case of Jaller’s death. Hewkii fought alongside the rest of the team against Vezon and Fenrakk in a furious battle, when at last the Inika obtained the Mask of Life from Vezon. But not for long, as the Piraka arrived and attempted to steal it. The Mask floated up the 777 steps and out into the water, where Hahli failed to retrieve it. Hewkii and the others headed into The Cord, which Axonn had opened for them. Hewkii and the others fought their way through Zyglak, and was the first to notice that the Teridax had possessed Matoro’s body. Hewkii was apprehensive of retreating into the water outside The Cord, since he didn’t know how to swim well, but agreed and swam out into the dark waters around Mahri Nui.

Toa Inika Nuparu:

After a strike which occurred on Metru Nui, Jaller gathered Nuparu, along with Hahli, Hewkii, Matoro, and Kongu, and took off to find the missing Toa Nuva after Turaga Nokama told Jaller about the missing Toa. The six Matoran journeyed to the realm of Karzahni with Takanuva. However, they encountered a stone arch that would not allow any light to pass through, thus separating the Matoran from Takanuva.

After the separation, the six Matoran journeyed into the realm alone. There, they encountered the Manas Crabs and were captured by Karzahni, where their masks were switched with ones of Karzahni’s. The six Matoran were placed briefly in servitude, when the Matoran discovered the Builder of the Toa Canisters. The Matoran lead them to six Toa Canisters, where Nuparu figured out how to use them. After another brief encounter with Karzahni, the Matoran escaped from the realm using the canisters.

Upon arriving on Voya Nui, the six Matoran were transformed into the Toa Inika after being struck by lightning from the Red Star. The Toa Inika then journeyed onto the island, where they found out about their special Toa abilities (glowing faces, etc.). The Toa then journeyed into the island, and confronted with Vezok. After defeating the Piraka, they met with the Voya Nui Resistance Team.

The Toa Inika then split into three different teams. Nuparu, along with Kongu, Velika and Garan were on one team, and they launched an attack on the Piraka Stronghold. They were later reunited with the other Toa Inika, where they started a fierce battle with the Piraka. During the battle, Nuparu defeated Zaktan by plunging him into the sea.

After being defeated by Hakann and Thok, who managed to suck Brutaka’s powers and channel into themselves, the Toa and the four remaining Piraka followed. Another battle took place once more, with the Toa able to return the powers back to Brutaka but being knocked out in the process.

After awakening, the Toa Inika began to descend down the 777 Stairs. Along the journey, the Toa Inika encountered guardians such as Umbra, and traps such as the Chamber of Death. The Toa were able to pass through all the challenges, and faced the Piraka at the Lava Chamber Gate. After being defeated once more, the Toa Inika stormed into the Chamber of Life, where they found the Piraka being defeated by Vezon and Fenrakk. The Toa fought against the two beasts as well, only for Fenrakk to be transformed into the much stronger Kardas Dragon. Jaller ordered Kongu to use his mask power to read the mind of the Mask of Life. To everyone’s surprise, the Ignika did not want Vezon to be its guardian anymore, but rather it wanted Matoro. Because of this, Vezon went into a frenzy. In Vezon’s temporary moment of pure insanity, Jaller was able to use a special Zamor Sphere, given to them by Axonn, on them. Matoro was then able to retrieve the Mask of Life, but he lost his grip when he was hit by a concussive blast made by the now-revived Kardas Dragon. The Toa Inika then raced behind the Mask of Life as it journeyed out of the chamber, eventually plunging into the sea. Toa Hahli tried to retrieve it, but the pressure was too much, and she nearly drowned, but was saved by a Matoran. After a reunion with the Toa Nuva, it was decided that the Toa Inika shall continue their search for the mask, while the Toa Nuva would leave on their own mission. The Toa Inika then journeyed down The Cord, where they were transformed into Toa Mahri by the Kanohi Ignika.

The Toa Beasts, Toa Hordika

Toa Hordika

The Toa Hordika in the Toa Hordika Promo Animation.

The Toa Hordika are a type of Toa transformed by the effects of the Visorak’s Hordika Venom. They are essentially half-Toa, half-Rahi creatures. While in Hordika form, the Toa were stripped of their mask and elemental powers, and had to rely on their Rhotuka spinners and combat skills for protection

Toa Hordika Vakama:

Vakama as a Toa Hordika.

The return to Metru Nui was horrifying to Vakama and his team of Toa. The city had been hit by the Great Cataclysm, its once beautiful skyline ragged and torn. Worse, many Rahi had escaped the Archives and ran free around the city. As the Toa made their way to the Coliseum to save the Matoran, they were ambushed by spiders known as Visorak. The venom from the Visorak mutated the Toa into new forms – Toa Hordika. Rescued by the Rahaga, the half-Toa half-Rahi tended to lapse into fits of uncontrollable rage and violence. With the mission to build Airships and discovery of the fact that they were not meant to be Toa, Vakama’s guilt at the transformation of his friends and his utter hopelessness on his quest to save the Matoran caused him to do something he would regret for millennia – he joined Roodaka and Sidorak, the leaders of the Visorak.

The other five Toa Hordika, along with the Rahaga and the Rahi Keetongu, launched an all-out assault on the Coliseum. Then, in the midst of the battle, Matau swung up to him, catching Vakama on surprise. They immediately battled each other. Matau lost, but was able to bring Vakama back to his senses. Understanding what he had done was wrong, he returned to his fellow Toa Hordika, who were united once more. Sidorak, meanwhile, was slain by Keetongu, leaving only Roodaka to be dealt with. Five Hordika fired their Elemental spinners at her. As Vakama was preparing to fire his own, Rahaga Norik shouted at him to stop, but it was too late. As Vakama’s Fire Rhotuka hit Roodaka, the combination of the six elements impacted on her heartstone, which was carved from the same Protodermis that caged Teridax. With the elemental seal of his prison unlocked, Teridax broke free and Roodaka was carried away by him, teleported through the stone. Vakama as the leader of the Visorak, disbanded the horde. Keetongu cured the Hordika, transforming them back into Toa Metru. Using Airships, the Toa carried the sleeping Matoran away from Metru Nui and to their new home, the island of Mata Nui.

Toa Hordika Nuju:

Upon their return to Metru Nui, the Toa Metru were ambushed by the spider-like Rahi called Visorak. As a result of the Hordika Venom from the spiders, the Toa were mutated into Toa Hordika. Nuju was at first very upset about the transformation, though in time he realized that there were advantages to being a Hordika, such as the ability to communicate with Rahi. Nuju partnered with the Rahaga Kualus to scavenge up parts of great Airships, which would be used to carry the Matoran to Mata Nui. During his time with Kualus, Nuju learned the language of birds, which he would later speak on a daily basis. Nuju later parted with his fellow Toa Hordika and Rahaga to search for the mythical Rahi Keetongu, though he reunited with them when the great Rahi was found. After the discovery of Keetongu, the Toa and the Rahi launched an assault against the Visorak’s fortress. As Keetongu climbed the Coliseum to confront Roodaka and Sidorak, Nuju and three of his fellow Toa fought bravely against the Visorak. In time, the Toa were able to reach Vakama, who had turned to Roodaka’s side after being deceived, and return him to the Light.

Nuju, along with his fellow Toa, fired a fully charged spinner at the Viceroy, when she arrived riding a huge Kahgarak, accidentally releasing Makuta from his Protodermis cage. Although the threat of Makuta was great, the Toa parted with the Rahaga and flew their Airships full of Matoran to Mata Nui. The trip to Mata Nui was uneventful, but the end of the journey brought about the final third of Nuju’s adventures. Along with his fellow Toa, Nuju sacrificed what was left of his Toa power to revive the sleeping Matoran, becoming a Turaga.

Toa Hordika Nokama:

Upon finally returning to Metru Nui, The Toa Metru were captured by the Visorak horde, which had seized the entire city in their absence. After being ambushed, the Toa were strung up in cocoons and injected with the venom of the Visorak. They were mutated into Half-Toa. Along with the Toa portion of their mind, they were also half Rahi monsters; in their state they were known as Toa Hordika. After their mutation, the cords suspending their cocoon prisons were clipped and they plummeted to what would have been the Toa’s death, but were caught at the last moment by the Rahaga. The Rahaga explained to them that if the Hordika Venom was not neutralized, they would remain Toa Hordika forever after. The Rahaga also related to them the legends of Keetongu, a mythical Rahi that could reverse the poison and make them whole Toa Metru once more. The Toa Hordika, however, decided to rescue the sleeping Matoran instead of searching for Keetongu. Nokama, who was the most peaceful of the Toa, now found it hard to control her Rahi side. She eventually became the leader of the Toa Hordika after Vakama betrayed them and joined Roodaka and Sidorak, the leaders of the Visorak. After Vakama’s betrayal, the Hordika finally decided to seek out Keetongu, believing that he was now the only hope for Vakama. After a very long and hard search, the five Hordika and the Rahaga located Keetongu and enlisted his help in the fight against the hordes.

Nokama led an attack on the ruined Coliseum, which had become the Visorak stronghold. The fight was hard, for the Hordika also had to control their Rahi inclinations while fighting the Visorak. While Keetongu fought Sidorak and Roodaka, Matau left and managed to convince Vakama that they needed to work in unity with each other in order hope to succeed. After Keetongu crushed Sidorak’s head, Roodaka, carrying a piece of the Protodermis seal that imprisoned the Makuta, tricked the Hordika into unleashing their Elemental Rhotuka spinners at her. When the Elemental Rhotuka hit her, the seal on Makuta’s prison became undone. None yet knew what had come to pass. Shortly afterward, Keetongu healed the Toa Hordika and turned them back into the Toa Metru, and they took leave of the city as well as their newfound allies and brought the rest of the Matoran

Toa Hordika Matau:

Matau, along with the other Toa Metru, sought to rescue the rest of the Matoran trapped in the Coliseum. After their return to the island, they were ambushed by the Visorak. The Hordika Venom caused the Toa to mutate into new, terrifying creatures known as Toa Hordika. Sickened by the transformation into Hordika, Matau however still retained his funny side. He blamed Vakama for his transformation and often called him “Mask-Melter” or “Smelt-Head“. Much like when he was a Toa Metru, his partner for many of the missions was Nokama. He agreed to Vakama’s plan of making airships to rescue the Matoran, and went to Le-Metru with Iruini to find envelopes for the Airships to be able to float. After being spotted by the Visorak and being trapped in a warehouse by the horde, he was tricked into opening the door that they barricaded and letting the Visorak in. Luckily, the other Toa Hordika and Rahaga came to his rescue, along with Krahka and the Tahtorak. After rescuing Whenua and Bomonga from being eaten by the Zivon, which resulted in Krahka, Tahtorak and the Zivon going into the Field of Shadows, they captured the Tower which Sidorak and the Visorak were building, named it the Tower of Toa, and charged it with elemental energy, then stayed in there a while. During his time with the others and the incident of the Great Temple, Matau finally realized what he had done wrong and vowed with the other Toa that they would do whatever it took to rescue Vakama, who had apparently given in to the Hordika venom.

After capturing the tower, he and Nokama went scouting to the Coliseum. However, something went wrong and he and Nokama ended hanging in a web with Visorak around. Matau had an idea and jumped, pulling Nokama with him. Before crashing on the ground he launched a Rhotuka that threw them up again. When they got down, Matau tried to attack a Visorak guard but he soon was overrun when a dozen of the creatures appeared. Then he and Nokama hid under a Visorak Battle Ram, but soon discovered that the ram was going to be burned. Matau and Nokama escaped seconds before the vehicle was burned.

At the last battle against the Visorak, Matau searched for Vakama high atop the Visorak’s tower. Vakama, hiding in the Visorak webs, attacked him. After a furious, yet brief battle, Vakama knocked him to the edge of the tower with a Rhotuka spinner. Hanging by one hand, Vakama came to finish him. He was able to finally convince Vakama to abandon the side of evil by revealing that he respected Vakama as a leader, and telling Vakama of their destiny. Vakama returned to the side of the Toa, and Matau realized the meaning of unity and leadership. Later, Matau contributed to the six Elemental spinners which, unknown to them, freed Teridax from his Protodermis prison.

Matau was finally returned to his Toa-hero form by the great Rahi Keetongu. He helped load the Matoran onto Airships, and piloted the ships back to their new found home, Mata Nui.

Matau and the other Toa Metru sacrificed their Toa Power to awaken the Matoran. This changed him into a Turaga. On their first visit to Mata Nui, the Toa Metru had given a little of their power into Toa Stones and scattered them throughout the island. This was a wise move, because the dark times for Matau and his Matoran were just beginning.

Toa Hordika Onewa:

Toa Onewa Hordika in Web of Shadows.

Upon their return to Metru Nui, the six Toa Metru were captured by Visorak, spider-like creatures led by the Brotherhood of Makuta. The Toa were then hung by the Visorak in cocoons, thousands of feet high in the ruins of the great Coliseum. The heroes underwent painfull mutations, (thanks to the ruthless viceroy of the Visorak, Roodaka) in the confines of their cocoons into the beastal half-Toa Half-Rahi Toa Hordika. As a Toa Hordika, Onewa found it harder to control his emotions than anyone else, with the exception of Vakama.

The Toa decided that Onewa and the Rahaga, Pouks, should search for levitation disks in Po-Metru to evacuate the Matoran by airship, however Onewa stumbled upon evidence that they might not have been meant to be Toa Metru. While investigating a tunnel, he realized that the chamber at the end was in fact Teridax’s own lair. As he looked through the chamber, he spotted a tablet that held some discouraging news for the Toa.

While Onewa examined the tablet, outside the cave Pouks found out that a nearby stone snake was in fact Krahka, the shapeshifting Rahi. While meeting up with Pouks, Onewa and the Rahaga confronted Krahka and had a conversation. Realizing that a Visorak Army traveled to Le-Metru, Krahka commanded them to follow her to Ta-Metru to meet a “friend”. This friend turned out to be the Tahtorak, a massive dragon-like creature with incredible power. Krahka shapeshifted into a replica of Onewa and the unlikely team continued on to Le-Metru met up with the other Toa Hordika and Rahaga.

Later, Onewa was told about the Makoki Stones by Vakama, and then set out to find the second piece. When he found it, he was grabbed by a tentacle and was nearly killed, had Whenua not arrived and saved him. Later, when the Toa Hordika found the Avohkii, Onewa encased it in stone so it could be smuggled out of the city.

Onewa then witnessed the fight between the Tahtorak and the horrible Zivon, and helped fight off the Visorak from a nearby Tower that the Toa took as a fortress. During the battle, he helped to lock up a large part of the Visorak army in the Tower. After seeing the Tahtorak, Krahka and the Zivon disappear into the Field of Shadows, he became filled with rage and crushed the Kahgarak spider responsible with a mass of stone. He later shared the information on the tablet with the other Toa Hordika which filled them all with doubt. Vakama, who had been most affected, gave in to his emotions and joined the Visorak hordes, capturing five of the six Rahaga in the process.

Soon after, Onewa and the others, led by Norik, embarked on a journey to find the great Rahi Keetongu, and were successful in persuading him to help them against the Visorak. In the final battle against the Visorak, Onewa killed a great number of Visorak, aided the others in bringing Vakama back to the light, and defeating Roodaka. Unwittingly, they released Teridax upon Roodaka’s defeat by striking the piece of his seal Roodaka had kept in her armor.

He was then transformed back into a Toa Metru by Keetongu, and then, with nearly one thousand sleeping villagers, he returned to the island of Mata Nui to start a new life .

Toa Hordika Whenua:

When the Toa Metru returned to Metru Nui, their beloved city was in a web of shadows. Whenua believed that the Onu-Metru Archives had been breached, with the exotic Rahi beasts loose throughout the island city. After the heroes attempted to go through the Archives and get close enough to the Coliseum to enter, they were ambushed by spider-like creatures called Visorak that proceeded in capturing the six Toa and trapping them in web cocoons. Roodaka, the Visorak viceroy, ordered them to be killed so she could drain them of their Elemental Powers to free her Teridax. Luckily, 6 mysterious beings, called Rahaga, caught the Toa in mid-air and set them down safely on a street in Ga-Metru. Norik, the leader of the Rahaga, told the Toa that they were now Toa Hordika. Norik told them that their only way to change back is to find a mythical Rahi called Keetongu, which was said to have the power to reverse anything the Visorak had done. Along the way, however, they decided to concentrate on finding scraps for building Airships to transport the Matoran to Mata Nui. Then, they stumbled upon demoralizing evidence which indicated they were not the destined Toa Metru. After they built the Airships, the Rahaga told them of the Avohkii and sent them on a mission to collect the Makoki Stones. Then they were betrayed by Vakama. This caused them to quickly switch priorities and start the search for Keetongu, believing he was the only hope for Vakama.

During the hunt for Keetongu, Whenua and Bomonga were attacked by a Kahgarak and trapped in the Field of Shadows. They escaped when the Zivon was summoned into the city. The Hordika and Rahaga eventually found Keetongu, with a surprise too: Keetongu agreed to assist the Toa rescue Vakama, because the Toa cared so much about their friend. They arrived at the Coliseum, battled the Visorak, and because of a deed by Matau, regained Vakama on their side. They then seemingly defeated Roodaka by unleashing their Elemental Rhotuka on her, unwittingly releasing Teridax from the Protodermis cage. Afterwards, Keetongu cured all the Toa Metru of the Hordika Venom and they then resumed their great rescue of the sleeping Matoran. When they were on the way to the island of Mata Nui, Onewa saw that Teridax’s prison was empty. Vakama said that Teridax would follow them to the new island, and he was correct. They later sacrificed their Toa Powers to wake up the Matoran, and became Turaga, just as Toa Lhikan did for them.

Legends, Toa Metru is Born

Toa Metru

The Toa Metru as sets.

The Toa Metru were six Toa that were created to stop the Makuta Teridax’s plan to take over Metru Nui and the Matoran living there. While unable to stop Teridax from wrecking the city itself, the Toa Metru successfully spirited the Matoran to safety on the island of Mata Nui.

Toa Metru Vakama:

Toa Vakama as a set.Vakama with two Great Disks.

After a moment of teasing and somewhat unpleasant conversations, the six Matoran placed the Toa stones into the Toa Suva, which unleashed six beams of Toa energy. Each beam struck an individual and transformed them into Toa.

The Toa then chose their Toa Tools from a tool storage in the Suva. Vakama, unable to give up his life as a forger, picked a Disk Launcher and was consequently ridiculed by other Toa such as Matau for picking an oversized “Matoran tool.”

While the other new Toa admired their new forms, Vakama received a vision of Metru Nui being destroyed by the Morbuzakh, a vicious plant which had been appearing recently in the city and causing destruction, and then saw the city suddenly restored. Six Great Disks flew at him and destroyed the Morbuzakh. He learned the names of the six Matoran who knew where the disks were located: Vhisola, Tehutti, Ahkmou, Orkahm, Ehrye, and his old mentor Nuhrii.

When he relayed his vision to the others, some of the Toa Metru doubted the vision and did not trust Vakama entirely, believing him to have spent too much time in his forge and had lost his mind. However, Nokama stepped up and helped Vakama to convince the others that his vision may be true and that by obtaining the disks they could stop the Morbuzakh and prove that they were worthy Toa. The six Toa Metru then, some reluctantly, split up in search of the Matoran.

Vakama traveled to Ta-Metru, where he encountered Morbuzakh vines attempting to knock a vat of molten Protodermis to the ground, which would result in heavy damage to that area of Ta-Metru. Vakama managed to stop the vines with a pair of freeze Kanoka, and in doing so learned that the Morbuzakh hated the cold.

He then found out from the control room attendant, a Ta-Matoran named Kapura, that a four-legged creature had sabotaged the controls, allowing the Morbuzakh to grab the Protodermis vats. When he asked about Nuhrii, Kapura told him that the Matoran had been looking in the morning for a Kanohi he had crafted which he had tossed out as flawed, but had been told was not. Vakama was told that he had headed to the Protodermis Reclamation Yard to find it, and Vakama followed. Once there, he found the mask Nuhrii had been looking for, but saw that it was indeed damaged.

Kalama, a worker at the yard, showed him a tablet Nuhrii had dropped after seeing the broken mask, which offered him the secret to making a Kanohi from a Great Disk if he came to an abandoned Mask Maker’s house. Suddenly struck by another vision of Nuhrii in danger, Vakama rushed in the direction of the abandoned area, which was one of the first places where the Morbuzakh struck. There, he found Nuhrii buried underneath a pile of rubble. He dug him out, and then brought him to the Great Temple to meet up with the other Toa Metru. At the Great Temple, Vakama met with the other Toa Metru, and was convinced that one of the Matoran had betrayed the other five and helped them be lured into traps. The Toa deduced correctly that the traitor was the Po-Matoran Ahkmou.

The Toa split up again, this time in three groups of two Toa, two Matoran, to find the Great Disks. Vakama and Nuhrii wound up traveling with Onewa and Ahkmou after the Toa flipped Kanoka disks to decide the groups. The group of four traveled to Ta-Metru’s Fire Pits, and was met with attempted escape from the two Matoran. Vakama used a teleportation disk to teleport Nuhrii back to his side, whilst Onewa used his Proto Pitons to drag Ahkmou back. The group of four then managed to recover the Ta-Metru Great Disk from one of the Metru’s fire pits, encountering Morbuzakh vines within it.

They were nearly killed by Nidhiki when they attempted a shortcut through the Protodermis Reclamation Center, and Vakama barely managed to save the four of them. They then went to retrieve the Po-Metru Great Disk from the Sculpture Fields, where they encountered a mad Tunneler. Vakama made the mistake of channeling fire at the Tunneler, causing the creature to absorb the elemental energy and adapt to it, turning it into a creature of Fire. It was only after Onewa channeled sand to the creature that the creature turned into glass and ceased to fight. They found the Po-Metru Great Disk wedged into a precariously balanced sculpture and returned once more to the Great Temple.

Now that they had all six Great Disks, the Toa Metru went to Ta-Metru to destroy the Morbuzakh’s King Root, which they suspected to be in the Great Furnace. The six Toa were forced to hide in an abandoned forge, after nearly being discovered by a squad of Nuurakh, and were struck by thousands of Morbuzakh seeds from which vines burst out from to strangle the Toa and Matoran. They escaped, and entered the Great Furnace where they were met with an attack from the Morbuzakh. Trapped as a result, the six Matoran combined into the Matoran Nui and freed the Toa. They approached the center of the furnace, and a furious battle ensued in the heart of the furnace.

The Toa Metru began to lose, attempting to defend against vines attacking from all sides while trying to withstand the high heat of the furnace. The battle ended when the Toa Metru feigned defeat and then taunted the Morbuzakh, allowing it to grab them and bring them close enough to unleash the powers of the Great Disks on the plant. The Morbuzakh was destroyed by the energies brought upon it, and the Toa Metru were relieved to have won their first major battle.

Afterwards, on their way to the Coliseum to see Turaga Dume, the Toa met up with archivist Nuparu, who informed them of a problem in the Archives. The Toa Metru went into the Archives to see the problem, and were attacked by a shape-shifting Rahi, Krahka, which attempted to turn the Toa against each other by copying their forms and powers and attacking the other Toa Metru with them. After defeating Krahka and accidentally awakening another Rahi, Tahtorak, in the battle, along with repairing the leak, the Toa made it to the Coliseum, where they presented Dume with the six Great Disks.

Dume, however, turned them down, claiming them to be false Toa. He then tested the Toa, but they failed his test for they were drained of their Elemental Powers after the battles with Krahka and the Morbuzakh, and an inability to access their Kanohi powers. Dume therefore announced them as impostors to the Matoran and ordered them to be arrested by the Vahki. Onewa, Whenua, and Nuju were captured by the Vahki while Nokama, Matau, and Vakama were left as fugitives with the sole mission of finding Toa Lhikan and clearing their names. They stowed away on a Vahki transport where they encountered the Dark Hunters Nidhiki and Krekka.

After a short battle with them, they left the transport. They later encountered the awakened Tahtorak, on a rampage demanding some sort of answer, whom they managed to defeat temporarily by causing it to fall through the ground and through several underground floors. Seeing Lhikan’s Spirit Star traveling toward Po-Metru, they decided to travel in hopes of finding the Toa of Fire. They once again encountered the Dark Hunters, but this time the battle was cut short when a herd of Kikanalo stampeded through the village. Nokama was able to convince the chief of the herd to help them using her newly-activated Mask of Translation, and they traveled through the Canyon of Unending Whispers, where they discovered a prison guarded by a large group of Vahki. They reunited with Onewa, Nuju, and Whenua and met a Turaga that revealed himself to be none other than Lhikan. When Lhikan asked about the Heart of Metru Nui, Vakama misunderstood that to be Lhikan, but he sadly told Vakama that it was the Matoran.

Eventually, the Toa and Lhikan learned the truth – the Dume who had requested the Vahi was an impostor, and was none other than the Makuta Teridax, the Makuta of Metru Nui, trying to enslave the peaceful Matoran of the city. The real Turaga Dume had been trapped in a damaged Matoran Pod, hidden in Onu-Metru. Taking a Vahki Transport, the Toa and Lhikan went to confront the false Turaga.

At the Coliseum, Teridax revealed himself to the Toa, enacting his master plan and thus causing the Great Cataclysm. Vakama and his team decided to rescue six Matoran and then journey past the Great Barrier to find a refuge for the rest of the Matoran. However, Teridax followed them after absorbing the power supply of Metru Nui, The Dark Hunters Nidhiki and Krekka, and his Rahi Nivawk. Along the journey to the Great Barrier, Vakama took all six Great Disks and began crafting the Kanohi Vahi.

When they reached the Great Barrier, however, Teridax was waiting for them, and Vakama was forced to fight him for control of the Vahi. He attempted to use the Vahi against Teridax, but his inability nearly cost him his life. Turaga Lhikan sacrificed his life to save Vakama. Vakama then discovered his mask power, and shot the Vahi from Teridax’s hand with his disk launcher. After a skirmish with Teridax, he and the other five Toa imprisoned the Makuta in a Toa Seal. The Toa then left Metru Nui through the Great Barrier, seeking a new home for the Matoran. On the way, they discovered the Onu-Matoran and former Archivist Mavrah, who had hidden himself beyond the Great Barrier and had a home with a large group of ancient Rahi of the ocean, along with several Kralhi. Though Mavrah attempted to prevent them from passing, Vakama and the rest of the Toa Metru managed to escape, though Mavrah perished in the battle which took place when they did.

The Toa eventually found an island above Metru Nui, which they later named Mata Nui, after the Great Spirit. While on Mata Nui, Vakama received another vision, this one foreshadowing the eventual loss of his Toa power. Acting on this vision, he convinced the rest of the Toa to put some of their power into new Toa Stones to assure that if they failed their next quest, the Matoran would not be without protection.

Over the course of their return journey to Metru Nui, Vakama and the Toa Metru encountered a lair of the Makuta Teridax, which was filled with strange, mutated Rahi and remnants of former experiments, including the Rahi Nui and a prototype of the Morbuzakh called Karzahni. After battles against many of these creatures, they arrived back on Metru Nui.

Toa Metru Nuju:

The Nuju Metru set.

After the shock of their transformation subsided, the Toa Metru embarked on their first quest. Each Toa was ordered by Vakama, who had asserted himself as leader, on a mission to find the Great Disks. The novice Toa knew these were needed by a vision that Vakama had. Nuju has stated that he accepted Vakama as the leader “as long as he doesn’t expect me to follow”. After many adventures and a strange partnership with Whenua, Nuju located his disk embedded inside an icicle, which hung from one of the highest Knowledge Towers. Then they found the Onu-Metru Great Disk deep within the Archives. The two then met up with the other Toa Metru to work out how to destroy the Morbuzakh that was plaguing their city. Realizing that the plant liked heat, the group headed for the Great Furnace. There Nuju tried to kill sapling Morbuzakh with frost, but his attempts were defeated by the extreme heat. Inside the deepest part of the Great Furnace, they found the king root of the Morbuzakh. During the ensuing fight, Vakama realized what they needed to do and told his teammates to stop fighting. As the Morbuzakh pulled them close, the six Great Disks that the Toa Metru were holding created a sphere around the king root and destroyed it. All around the island, Matoran rejoiced as the plants that had threatened them began to turn to dust.

The Toa had used the Great Disks to defeat the Morbuzakh, hoping that this act would prove them to be heroes to the Matoran. After this struggle, they headed for the Coliseum to claim victory over the extremely large plant. On the way, an Onu-Matoran told Whenua about a crack that was found far beneath the Archives. Already, the sea on the other side was leaking in, and if something wasn’t done soon, the Archives would be flooded. Whenua wanted to go alone and fix it, but the other Toa Metru wouldn’t let him do something so dangerous alone. So the group embarked to seal a crack in the Archives and encountered a Rahi called Krahka. At one point, the mimicking Rahi took on the powers of all six Toa at once. However, the combined powers were too much for her and overwhelmed her, so the Toa were able to escape.

Afterwards, the Toa went to the Coliseum, where the Matoran had been assembled, expecting to be praised as heroes. However, Turaga Dume accused them of not being true Toa and ordered them captured. Nuju, along with Whenua and Onewa, was trapped inside a prison with a strange Turaga who began training the three Toa Metru. Nuju’s task was to take rocks and stack them, thus teaching him that the building of the highest tower begins with a single stone. Through this, Nuju learned his mask power, Telekenisis. This power helped the four to escape.

While finding their way through the corridors of the prison, they were rejoined by the other three Toa who had followed Lhikan’s Spirit Star there. At this point, the Turaga revealed himself to be Lhikan. Then they learned that Dume was actually sleeping in a pod and that Teridax had been impersonating him. They also soon learned that every Matoran on Metru Nui was placed into a similar pod and stored inside the Coliseum. Taking a Vahki Transport and rigging it to float, the Toa Metru managed to acquire six of the pods, and ventured to the Great Barrier to try and escape Metru Nui. On their way, they were interrupted by Teridax. Vakama attempted to defeat the Makuta, but during the battle Lhikan was killed while saving Vakama. The other Toa soon joined him, and, combining their elements, sealed the Makuta in a prison of Protodermis.

Toa Metru Nokama:

Toa Metru Nokama as a set.

Shortly after becoming a Toa, only Nokama strongly supported Vakama’s claim of a vision involving the powerful Great Disks. This set a precedent that continued throughout the time of the Toa Metru: when Vakama made seemingly outlandish statements, Nokama would support him and insist that the others follow his lead. She would also witness the beginning of the Great Cataclysm.

Remembering a carving in the Great Temple that related the locations of the Great Disks, Nokama led the other Toa Metru to it. Upon hearing Vakama mention one of her former students, Vhisola, Nokama went to seek her out. After a semi-inconclusive search of Vhisola’s home and a narrow escape from the Vahki, Nokama paid a visit to Vhisola’s school laboratory, only to find it ransacked. A Ga-Matoran worker’s report that a four-legged creature was responsible for the damage only worried Nokama further, as Vakama had described seeing none other than a four-legged creature in his vision. With this fright-inducing knowledge, Nokama returned to Vhisola’s home and used her elemental power for the first time: She fired a shot of liquid Protodermis to knock off an ornament on a house down the street, distracting the Vahki surrounding the house. A more thorough search of the house revealed a tablet depicting a powerful disk next to the Great Temple. As she raced to the temple, Nokama found a crowd of Matoran gathered around a tall building with Vhisola on its roof! Using the water canals to vault herself up, she steadied herself and Vhisola, saving the Matoran. Amazingly, even after this near-fatal adventure, Vhisola still had to be persuaded to help the Toa retrieve the Great Disk.

During the quest for the Great Disks, Nokama also saved Matau from drowning. Later, she alone dove into the waters beneath the Great Temple to retrieve the Great Disk. She found it wedged between two teeth of the Dweller in the Deep. As Nokama returned to the surface, she was able to use the beast to distract the Vahki that were harassing Vhisola, Matau, and Orkahm. After the Toa reunited, Nokama set them to figuring out exactly how it was that the Great Disks should defeat the Morbuzakh plant. With the hiding place of the Morbuzakh king root revealed to be the Great Furnace in Ta-Metru, Nokama declared Vakama to be their leader in the ensuing battle. When the Toa were attacked by Morbuzakh seeds in Ta-Metru, it was Nokama who correctly guessed the identity of their assailants. During the final battle with the Morbuzakh, Nokama initiated the plan to work together, preventing a Great Disk from being lost to the plant’s vines. Eventually, the Toa were victorious over the Morbuzakh.

Before they could travel to the Coliseum to be hailed as Toa, they first had to travel to Onu-Metru to seal a crack in the seawall protecting the Archives. They soon found themselves attacked by the shape-shifting Rahi, Krahka. The Krahka could mimic not only their appearance, but their Elemental Powers as well. She captured all of the Toa except for Nokama, who later was able to find the other Toa Metru. When confronted by the Toa Metru, Krahka was defeated and fled.

After the confrontation with Krahka, the Toa traveled to the Coliseum, where they were accused by “Turaga Dume” (really the Makuta, Teridax, in disguise) for the disappearance of the city’s old guardian, Toa Lhikan. Nuju, Onewa, and Whenua were captured, but Matau, Nokama, and Vakama were able to escape. The three fled to Ga-Metru, where they were attacked by Vahki Bordakh. Nokama was struck by a stun blast from a Bordakh’s Staff of Loyalty and, out of her right mind, attacked Vakama, thrusting him off a skyscraper. Fortunately, Vakama discovered that his Disk Launcher could be used as a jet-pack in that moment, and was able to hover to safety. Nokama, still influenced by the Bordakh’s staff, tried to attack Matau, but was knocked over the edge of the building. She was saved by Vakama, and the fall caused the Staff’s effect to wear off. The Toa escaped to Ta-Metru inside an Airship. After another battle with Vahki Nuurakh and the Dark Hunters Nidhiki and Krekka, the three Toa came to blows with Tahtorak, a behemoth Rahi that had been awoken during their earlier fight with Krahka. They defeated it by using weakening disks on the ground beneath it, and Tahtorak crashed down beneath Metru Nui.

Shortly afterwards, they went to Po-Metru, where Nokama finally discovered her Kanohi mask power of Translation when she was able to understand a herd of Kikanalo. Nokama enlisted the aid of the Kikanalo in locating where they believed Toa Lhikan was being held, and the trio of Toa soon discovered a tunnel in a deep canyon. This led them to the (now-escaped) other Toa Metru who were in the company of another being: Lhikan. Lhikan was no longer a Toa; he had become a Turaga after sacrificing his Toa power to create the Toa Metru. The Toa escaped after discovering that Teridax had been and still was posing as Turaga Dume, and hurried to the Coliseum. They were too late, however, as all the Matoran of Metru Nui were cast into a comatose state by the Makuta, Teridax. After a long battle on the Great Barrier, the Toa imprisoned Teridax in a Protodermis prison. They left on their makeshift Vahki Transport, now on a journey to find a new home for the Matoran. They were ultimately successful: The island of Mata Nui lay before them.

Nokama decided that one day, the next Ga-Matoran settlement (which would come to be called Ga-Koro) would be established on the very spot that the Toa Metru had first set foot on shore the strange new land. While exploring the island, Nokama again proved her faith in Vakama when he announced to the others his premonition of the creation of more Toa stones. She was the first to follow Vakamaā€™s example and house a portion of her power within such a stone. After these six Toa stones were hidden on the island and a new path to Metru Nui was found, the Toa Metru began the return journey to their city.

On the long trek through the labyrinths beneath the island, the Toa Metru were abruptly attacked by the monster called Rahi Nui. After the encounter, in which the team emerged victorious, they discovered Nokama to be severely poisoned. They hoped to find a cure in Metru Nui, but as she neared death, the option became void. In desperation, it was then that the Toa Metru communicated with the telepathic roots of Karzahni. The root made a deal with them to revive Nokama only if they in turn retrieved something for it: Energized Protodermis.

Though a foolish request in the Toa Metruā€™s eyes, they had no other choice at hand, and they set out through the tunnels to seal a sample of the substance in a small vial. The Toa Metru ultimately found the Protodermis, but not without the cost of combat. Before they could claim the prize, the team fought a perilous battle with a mysterious guardian being of the Protodermis. Despite assuming a form entirely of Energized Protodermis, the desperate Toa Metru defeated it, and took some of the treacherous liquid to the Karzahni. Nokama was healed, and returned to her brothers, but the Karzahni root, having consumed the Protodermis, was slain.

Toa Metru Matau:

Toa Matau as a set.

Once Matau became a Toa Metru, he became more concerned about the fame and glamour of being a hero, rather than the work. Once Vakama had the vision of the six Great Disks, Matau was immediately ordered by Vakama to go find the Le-Matoran Orkahm. Even though he was skeptical of Vakama’s leadership and visions, Matau eventually found Orkahm in a web of transport cords. Matau managed to get the Matoran out and escaped before the Morbuzakh reached them. Vakama then had the Toa and Matoran split into pairs to find the Great Disks. His partner on this mission was Nokama. Matau rescued the Great Disk from a Force Sphere in The Notch, nearly killing himself in the process, and helped Nokama find the Great Disk of Ga-Metru under the Great Temple by providing a distraction for the Vahki that were chasing them. They then entered Ta-Metru to find the Morbuzakh. After nearly being killed by Morbuzakh seedlings and gaining entrance to the Great Furnace with the help of a Matoran Nui, Matau faced off against the king root with the other Toa, killing it with their Great Disks. After defeating the monster plant, Matau and the other Toa where told to go down into the Archives by Nuparu. Then and there, he and the other Toa had to fight Rahkshi and an intelligent Rahi known as Krahka. They defeated the Rahkshi and the Krahka and headed up, and out of the Archives. Matau and the other Toa were ready to be hailed as Toa by Turaga Dume and the Matoran. Instead, they were branded as impostors. Unbeknownst to the Toa, there really was an impostor ā€” Dume himself. Teridax, under the guise of Dume, planned to place the Matoran into hibernation and then wake them up to serve him ā€” and him alone.

Nuju, Onewa, and Whenua were all trapped under the Coliseum while Vakama, Nokama, and Matau escaped to safety. After many encounters and adventures, Matau and the others were all reunited, along with Turaga Lhikan. Now the Toa had one last mission to accomplish ā€” defeating Teridax. After a long battle on the Great Barrier, the six Toa Metru trapped the Master of Shadows in a Protodermis prison. During the battle, Turaga Lhikan sacrificed himself to save Vakama and the Vahi, Mask of Time. Now the Toa had to find a new home for the Matoran with no guidance ā€” a mission which was filled with many trials.

The Toa Metru managed to make it above ground, to the island which they christened Mata Nui. The island was filled with wild Rahi, several habitats, and was many times larger than Metru Nui. Matau chose a dense jungle for the home of his Matoran, as it reminded him of the Chute systems in Le-Metru. But before the Matoran could come and live here, they would have to be rescued – a mission which would change Matau forever. When he had seen what had happened to Le-Metru after the earthquake, it filled him with grief, especially the destroyed and abandoned Test Track and Moto-Hub.

Toa Metru Onewa:

Toa Onewa as a set.Toa Metru Onewa, as seen in Legends of Metru Nui.

As they recovered from shock of becoming Toa, Vakama had a vision and told everyone that they needed to find the Great Disks to defeat the Morbuzakh, a plant that had been plaguing Metru Nui. He also said that six Matoran had already discovered their location. Onewa immediately was made to search for the Po-Matoran named Ahkmou, who apparently knew the location of Po-Metru’s Great Disk. Onewa was skeptical because the information came from Vakama’s visions which he believed were caused because “a fire-spitter stood too long in front of his forge” He nevertheless found Ahkmou, who turned out to be a traitor who was planning to betray his city to the Dark Hunters. Unfortunately, Onewa had no choice but to trust him, because he alone knew the location of the Po-Metru Great Disk. Even though he and Vakama had a great hostility toward each other, they nevertheless teamed up, successfully recovered both the Ta-Metru and the Po-Metru Great Disks (Onewa’s being hidden atop an upside-down sculpture in the Po-Metru Sculpture Fields) and with the other Toa, defeated the Morbuzakh.

However, upon presenting the Great Disks to Turaga Dume as proof of their worthiness, ‘Dume’ – actually the Makuta of Metru Nui in disguise – pronounced them impostors and called for their arrest. Onewa, Nuju, and Whenua were captured. When they were being escorted to the prison, they tried to escape but failed, and were locked in the Prison of the Dark Hunters. But a mysterious Turaga, also inside, helped them activate their mask powers. First only Nuju and Whenua had to do something, but when Onewa started laughing at them, the Turaga gave Onewa the combined task of Whenua and Nuju. He had to carry rocks around blindfolded. Onewa bumped into Whenua, who grew mad at something Onewa said. Onewa then ordered Whenua to sit with his Mind Control mask, learning its power. After this, The Toa escaped, thanks to Nuju’s mask power. Once out of the prison, they walked through the tunnels guided by Whenua’s light and eventually met up with the other three Toa and together with the mysterious Turaga, now revealed as Lhikan, they headed for the Coliseum, where they discovered the sleeping Matoran and the false Dume. In the flight from the Coliseum, Onewa saved the day by making Krekka attack Nidhiki. During the Great Barrier Battle, Onewa used his tools to destroy a Protodermis pole which was going to collide with the transport. Onewa and also joined stone with the other Toa’s Elements to seal Makuta behind solid Protodermis in the end.

The Toa Metru then left Metru Nui for Mata Nui via a series of rivers aboard their Vahki Transport-Boat, The Lhikan. En route, however, they encountered sea Rahi and Kralhi led by a Onu-Matoran named Mavrah, who believed that they were sent by Turaga Dume to retrieve him and fought them. In the battle, Mavrah was swept into the boiling river and only the actions of Onewa prevented Whenua from diving in after him.

After reaching Mata Nui, Onewa discovered a system of tunnels which the Toa Metru used to return to Metru Nui. The six Toa descended into the tunnels, where they discovered strange, mutated Rahi. When the Rahi Nui attacked, the Metru tricked it into shrinking. When it attacked again, Onewa, Matau, Nokama, and Whenua were defeated, but Vakama and Nuju managed to defeat it. The plant Karzahni agreed to heal Nokama if they would bring it a vial of Energized Protodermis. However, Onewa was attacked by a Kraata/Krana hybrid which attached itself to his mask. Onewa experienced strange visions of ‘Visorak’, but he could not remember any of them after the creature was destroyed.

Later, when the Toa found the pool of Energized Protodermis, he helped the others defeat the Energized Protodermis Entity.

Toa Metru Whenua:

Whenua as a Toa Metru.

Seconds after becoming Toa, Vakama had a vision of Metru Nui being saved by the Great Disks. Many of the other Toa, like Onewa, were doubtful claiming that the Great Disks were just a legend. Nokama stood up for Vakama and the Toa Metru were sent to find the Matoran who knew the locations of the Great Disks. Whenua was sent to find Tehutti, an Onu-Matoran Archivist, who knew the location of the Onu-Metru Great Disk. Whenua descended into the Archives, but found that a trap had been set and fell to the sub-levels. He barely escaped being killed by a Rahkshi of Laser Vision. To get rid of the Rahkshi, he freed a Muaka. While the two were fighting, Whenua slipped past them and rescued Tehutti. After the Toa regrouped at the Temple, Whenua and Nuju returned to the Archives with Tehutti and Ehrye. The two eventually managed to find the Great Disk in a storage room, escaping just before the Vahki arrived. The Toa and the Matoran went to Ko-Metru afterwards, where Whenua created a distraction for Nuju to draw the Keerakh away from the Knowledge Tower the Disk was on. He joined the other Toa back at the Temple, and successfully destroyed the Morbuzakh plants that were ruining Metru Nui. After that, Nuparu came to him for help, and told Whenua there was a flood in the Archives. Then when the Toa Metru were investigating, a Rahi called Krahka captured and impersonated Whenua. After they defeated Krahka, the Toa entered the Coliseum, expecting to be hailed as heroes for their deeds. But Makuta Teridax, under the guise of Turaga Dume, told the assembled Matoran that they were impostors, and commanded the Vahki enforcers to arrest them. The Matoran working the Coliseum floor also activated a suction vortex in the center of the arena leading to the Dark Hunter Prison. Whenua, Nuju, and Onewa, were sucked into the prison and captured, although Vakama, Nokama, and Matau escaped the Coliseum and went to find Toa Lhikan to help. Whenua and the other two Toa met a mysterious Turaga (later revealed to be Lhikan), who taught them to use their mask powers. After they managed to break out of the prison, the six Toa then went to the coliseum to stop Turaga Dume from his evil plans. But they realized Dume was actually Teridax in disguise. Teridax then combined himself with Nivawk, Nidhiki, and Krekka. Vakama went to stop Teridax while Whenua and the others put the Matoran Spheres on shore. Then Whenua and the other four Toa joined Vakama and defeated Teridax, locking him in a cage of solid Protodermis.

After Teridax’s defeat and the death of Lhikan, who had been killed by Teridax, the six Toa Metru took the Vahki transport and six pods into tunnels through the Great Barrier. Inside, they encountered monstrous sea Rahi, which Whenua had seen before, when he was a Matoran.

Whenua and the other Toa Metru were soon captured by Kralhi, which had allied themselves with Mavrah. Draining the Toa of energy, the automatons brought them to their “leader”. Mavrah heard their story, but denied them passage, claiming that they wanted only to capture him and his Rahi. Telling the Kralhi to keep watch over them, Mavrah left.

Whenua told his fellow Toa the tale of Mavrah while they worked on escape plan. When he was through, enough time had passed for a plan to be formed, and the energy regained to carry it through. Soon, there was a full-scale conflict going on inside the caves inside the Great Barrier, with Kralhi versus Rahi versus Vahki (which had followed the Toa Metru from Metru Nui) versus Toa. Mavrah attempted to gain control of his Rahi, but to no avail. A large wave swept him out to sea, and it was assumed that he was killed in the conflict.

The Toa Metru managed to reach where Mavrah had stored their vessel, dubbed the Lhikan. There they discovered that one of the Matoran pods had been knocked from the transport. This pod would later be revealed to contain Ahkmou, and would be retrieved by Teridax after the Makuta’s failure to regain the Vahi. This did make their vessel less buoyant, but not enough that it couldn’t float. The Metru took the Lhikan and escaped from the caves. Soon they emerged off the coast of the island of Mata Nui.

The Toa Metru split up after landing on the island, and each sought out a good place for a new village for their peoples, as well as hiding places for Toa Stones. Whenua investigated the Onu-Wahi area, and was pleased with it. Soon after, the six met up and Onewa revealed that he had found a passage that had a good chance of leading back to Metru Nui.

As the Toa descended, they found the Bohrok Nest. Whenua revealed to his fellow Toa that the Bohrok would not wake from their presence, alleviating the concerns of the others. But soon after this, they were attacked by the Rahi Nui. During the course of this battle, Nokama was severely injured by the creature. Only the intervention of the Karzahni plant saved her, and then, still, it was a temporary measure, a bargaining chip, so that the Metru would retrieve a vial of Energized Protodermis for the plant’s own use.

The six made their way through the tunnel system, fighting many Rahi along the way. They finally reached the safe where a black vial, to be used to retrieve the Energized Protodermis, was stored. The vial was not the only thing inside the safe, however. Also inside was a Kratana. It attached itself to Onewa’s mask, giving him visions of the Visorak. Whenua remembered hearing the name before, vaguely, and was slightly disappointed when Vakama destroyed the Kratana, though he also knew the necessity of the action.

After gaining the vial, they finally arrived at the pool of Energized Protodermis. But before they could fill the vial, the Energized Protodermis Entity revealed itself. It denied the Toa Metru access to the Energized Protodermis, and sent multiple mutated Rahi to stop them. The Metru prevailed by destroying all but one of the room’s supports, and threatened the entity with bringing the room down upon it. After a moment of thought, it allowed them to retrieve some Energized Protodermis, then attempted to double cross them by turning into a tidal wave, with the intention of destroying them. Onewa brought down the last pillar and the Entity’s status as a threat ended.

Whenua and the other Toa brought back the Energized Protodermis to the Karzahni, and, after a brief confrontation, it provided Nokama with a root that cured her of the Rahi Nui’s poison completely. The Karzahni then exposed itself to the Energized Protodermis. Unfortunately for it, transformation was not its destiny. It was destroyed from within, leaving the Toa to contemplate how it grabbed for power but lost everything.

Grand Evolution, From Toa Mata to Toa Nuva

Toa Nuva

The Toa Nuva in set form.

The strange substance the Toa Mata had been engulfed in was called Energized Protodermis. It would transform beings destined to transform, and kill those not destined. The destiny of the Toa Mata was to change into the Toa Nuva, as Tahu dubbed their new forms. Now they had even greater control over their elements than before, and they could use Kanohi Nuva – Kanohi masks that could let the user share its power with others.

Toa Nuva Tahu:

Tahu as a Toa NuvaLewa Nuva comforting a powerless Tahu Nuva.

After returning to the surface, the Toa Nuva faced each other in a mock battle to display how much more prowess and power they had. With their new found powers, the Toa Nuva decided they were now strong enough to face any threat alone, although Gali Nuva strongly disagreed. As their unity shattered, the attack of the Bohrok-Kal began. The Kal proceeded to steal the Nuva Symbols that contained the Elemental energies of the Nuva. Now with their Elemental Powers gone, the Toa had to re-find their unity to defeat those monsters. Toa now had to to search for the Kanohi Nuva, hoping it would give them more of an edge against the Kal. With all the masks found, the six Toa Nuva were united once more, in a cavern deep under the island. They encountered the enormous Rahi Nui, which they defeated and returned all in one piece. The Toa began their search for the Kal by seeking out the Bahrag.

When they arrived, they found the Bohrok-Kal were already there. Then, using the Kanohi Vahi, the Great Mask of Time, that Vakama had given him, Tahu managed to hold off the Bohrok-Kal for a brief moment, but the energy needed to use this mask was so enormous that Tahu nearly fainted and died. Finally, Gali came up with a plan to focus their minds on the Toa Symbols, channeling the powers of the symbols into the Kal, overwhelming them with power. The Toa Nuva regained their Elemental Powers and returned triumphantly to the surface.

Gali, Pohatu, and Tahu Nuva celebrated their new time of peace by watching the first Kolhii Championship held on Mata Nui. They were soon shocked to discover that Takua had inadvertently discovered the Mask of Light, which heralded the coming of a Seventh Toa. Makuta had once again returned, wishing to destroy the Mask and stop the coming of the Toa of Light. To do that, he released three of his “sons”, beings taken from his essence called Rahkshi. The Rahkshi immediately went to Ta-Koro, but Gali managed to get there first. She started warning the guards but was too late. The Rahkshi arrived, and a great battle occurred between the two sides. The Toa were forced to retreat after Lerahk poisoned Tahu’s mask, and Ta-Koro sank into the lava, along with most of Tahu Nuva’s masks. The Rahkshi again attacked Onu-Koro where Takua had just visited in search of the Seventh Toa, but they were driven off. Tahu began to act irrationally, nearly attacking his Toa brothers and sister. Kopaka froze Tahu, allowing Kopaka, Lewa, and Gali to use their powers to heal him. The Six Toa Nuva faced the six Rahkshi at the Kini-Nui, where Takua discovered his destiny and became the Toa of Light. Tahu and the others witnessed him as he defeated the Rahkshi and solemnly placed his now dead friend Jaller to rest. He descended alone into the Kini-Nui and defeated Makuta. Metru Nui was revealed soon after this, and the Toa Nuva demanded Vakama tell them everything he had kept secret. He obliged, and Tahu and the others listened fervently to his tales. Tahu was the only one allowed to hear the darkest tale, of the Hordika, and he chose to tell the other Nuva of this, despite the dark light it cast on Vakama.

Upon their arrival to Metru Nui, Tahu Nuva and the other Toa Nuva were informed by Turaga Dume that Mata Nui was dying. They immediately traveled to Voya Nui by way of propelled canisters to find the Mask of Life, the only thing that could save Mata Nui. Upon arrival on the surface island of Voya Nui, the Toa encountered the Piraka. Tahu fought with Zaktan, but his armor was pierced, as Zaktan sent millions of Protodites into his body, attacking his tissues. He was later dragged toward the volcano Mount Valmai along with the other five defeated Toa Nuva. Fortunately for the Toa, Mt. Valmai suddenly erupted. Tahu and the Toa Nuva narrowly escaped, and after a minor battle with the Voya Nui Resistance Team, they became allies. The team then broke into the Piraka’s Stronghold, retrieving their masks and Toa Tools and fought against Brutaka, former Guardian of the Voya Nui Matoran. Brutaka deemed to be too powerful after defeating the Toa Nuva and Resistance with one blow. Tahu, the Toa Nuva, and the Voya Nui Resistance Team were trapped in the Piraka’s stronghold, while the resistance team is in Reidak’s custody, the Toa were trapped with Brutaka. Brutaka apparently imprisoned the Toa Nuva in a room with a well that drained the Toa Nuva’s energy from them. The Voya Nui Resistance Team freed them from the effects of the Antidermis and their chains. The Toa Nuva later went to the coast of Voya Nui along with Axonn, the Voya Nui Resistance Team, Botar, and the unconscious Brutaka to meet up with the Toa Inika. Tahu Nuva later had a conversation on an unknown subject with Botar; he then informed the Toa Inika (indirectly) that they must go to Mahri Nui and retrieve the Ignika from the Barraki. He also told them that The Toa Nuva would be returning to Metru Nui following their departure from Voya Nui. After the Toa Inika left, Axonn told Tahu Nuva that he “didn’t have to be wearing the Mask of Truth” to know that he had lied to the Inika. Tahu simply stated that the Inika couldn’t be involved with the Toa Nuva’s new mission: preparing the universe for Mata Nui’s awakening.

Tahu then traveled with his fellow Toa Nuva to fulfill the Preparation Scroll. Their first task was to awaken the Bahrag and start the cleansing of Mata Nui. Tahu himself could not carry out the order to do it, and Onua had to say it for him. The next task was to retrieve the Staff of Artakha, that was possibly being held on the island of Odina. Tahu and the other Toa Nuva encountered The Shadowed One who asked them to kill Roodaka if he helped him find the staff. Tahu accepted, but later revealed to Gali that he had other plans. He and the other Toa went to Xia and found Roodaka. They also had her change the Rahaga back into Toa Hagah. Now with the Staff of Artakha gone and taken by the Makuta Icarax, Tahu claimed that they’d get the staff even if they’d have to take it from a Makuta’s dead hands.

Later, Tahu and his team journeyed to the realm of Karzahni, where they fought against Icarax. However, all the Toa but Gali were defeated. After the realm was destroyed by a Nova Blast unleashed by Gali, Tahu was revived and journeyed with Kopaka to a chain of islands to the south of the Matoran Universe where they need to stop several active volcanoes. Sometime after he was brought by Botar to Daxia where he assisted the restoration of the universe through the Staff of Artakha.

After witnessing the restoration, the Toa waited in a chamber where they were greeted by a Matoran from Artakha. He and the other Toa Nuva were then teleported to the land of Artakha, where they were given Adaptive Armor by Artakha. He then teleported the Nuva to Karda Nui.

Toa Nuva Kopaka:

Kopaka as a Toa NuvaKopaka Nuva as seen in Mask of Light.

After his transformation, he left the cave with the other Toa. The Toa began to try out their new powers, which caused them to explode on one another and fight. Of course, the tension between Tahu and Kopaka struck a fierce battle, but Gali, the wisest Toa of them all, stopped the fighting. With tensions running high, the Toa Nuva disbanded and went to their own villages. Kopaka went to Ko-Koro. Pleased to see that his people were safe, Kopaka left. While skiing down the slopes of Mt. Ihu and walking across a chasm by making an ice bridge, Kohrak-Kal stole Kopaka’s Nuva Symbol. This caused Kopaka to lose his elemental powers almost instantly, which caused his bridge to break. Without his powers, Kopaka had to use his sword to stop himself from falling by jamming it between two sheer cliffs. He then waited until Nuju found him and used his Mask of Telekinesis to bring Kopaka to safety.

Kopaka went to the drifts to meditate, but was interrupted by Pohatu, who was seeking to accompany him searching for the Kanohi Nuva. Kopaka didn’t answer to his calls, and simply went ahead. However, he was tricked into accompanying Pohatu when he pretended he was stuck in a snow-drift. Later Kopaka sat down for some rest, and awoke to a Muaka breathing down his neck. Fortunately, Pohatu distracted the creature, and Kopaka managed to escape. Later they found the cave holding the mask, and Pohatu was able to unblock the entrance. They made their way through the cave, and slowly descended down a huge crevice. When they reached the bottom, a tremor caused a huge rock fall. Pohatu pushed Kopaka out of the way, and Kopaka quickly grabbed the Hau Nuva, and tried to use it to shield Pohatu. Both survived, but Kopaka thought that Pohatu had died. He grieved for him, and made his way back through the cave, and then to Po-Wahi. He gave the Mask to Onewa, saying that it belonged to Pohatu, which Pohatu thanked him for. Kopaka then turned round, and saw that Pohatu was alive and well, actually showing emotion.

Once the Toa all met together, they followed the trail of the Bohrok-Kal to a desert in Po-Wahi. Without their powers, the Toa were utterly defeated by the Kal (since the Kal’s mission was not to destroy the Toa, they instead gave them a “warning”). Tahu then told Gali, Onua, and Pohatu to find out what happened to the Bahrag, while he, Lewa, and Kopaka would chase the Kal. They went their separate ways to go collect Krana-Kal and slow the Kal down. Kopaka briefly merged with Gali Nuva and Lewa Nuva to fight a Bohrok-Kal Kaita Ja. The three then met the other Toa and followed the Kal underground to prevent them from freeing the Bahrag. After the ensuing fight (See Tahu Nuva for details), Kopaka’s powers returned and he left with the other Toa.

After the Kolhii Championship game and the finding of the Mask of Light, the Rahkshi were released to chase down the Herald to the Seventh Toa. Later, Kopaka got word of a meeting that was to take place for planning a strategy to stop the Rahkshi. He left for it right away, but when Kopaka arrived, no one was there; for the Rahkshi had already ambushed the other Toa. Now the Rahkshi came at him and it was Kopaka against all six. At first Kopaka was winning but when Vorahk’s Staff of Absorption drained almost all of his energy, all seemed lost. Thankfully Gali, Lewa, and Tahu came and together drove the Rahkshi away. Fights continued against the Rahkshi all across Mata Nui. For Kopaka, that happened when he ran into Takua and Jaller in Ko-Wahi, who where searching for the 7th Toa. Together the three of them started walking, but soon Kopaka noticed something odd. Out of nowhere three Rahkshi appeared. Kopaka defeated them by knocking them into a lake, then freezing it. Then Kopaka left Jaller and Takua to tend to his village, giving them words of comfort before he left.

Later, while searching for the Rahkshi, Tahu, Lewa, and Kopaka found destruction in Le-Wahi. They saw nearby Matoran and proposed to ask them what had happened. It turned out the Matoran were infected by a Shadow Kraata, but the creature that caused the destruction had already left. Kopaka encased the Matoran in ice to “hold them for now” and the Toa left. Eventually, on the outskirts of Ko-Wahi, the two Rahkshi Kaita pulled a surprise attack on the Toa. During the fight, Kopaka saved Lewa by making ice walls that would reflect an attack back at one of the Rahkshi Kaita. The Toa underestimated their foe’s power, which was greater than they thought, and they had to retreat and find the other Toa for help. The Toa’s ignorance of their foes almost cost them dearly.

Not long after, Kopaka, Lewa, and Tahu met up with Gali, Pohatu, and Onua, who were busy revealing to the Onu-Matoran the discovery of the Mask of Light. That was when Vorahk, Turahk, and Kurahk pulled a surprise maneuver and assaulted Onu-Koro, revealing to the Toa that they were hunting Takua, the true Herald of the Seventh Toa, rather than the Mask of Light (which was with Jaller elsewhere). Kopaka fought valiantly, but in vain; for not long into the battle, Pohatu was blasted by Turahk’s Fear energy, while Onua had his energy absorbed by Vorahk, giving the Toa two incapacities right off the bat. Tahu, in an attempt to defend Takua, was blasted by Kurahk, driving him into a dangerous rage and causing him to turn hostile to everyone around him, including his teammates. Takua escaped with Lewa’s help, and Pohatu and Onua recovered, but an earthquake caused by Onua in attempt to stop Vorahk and Kurahk brought the cavern ceiling down upon Onu-Koro. Finally, Kopaka, deeming Tahu too dangerous in his current state, was forced to freeze his brother solid, so he could be taken away to be cured.

Kopaka also helped in Tahu’s purification by combining his ice energy with the flame energy from Tahu’s sword over Tahu’s body, allowing Gali to purify him by casting a healing bubble of some sort upon the fire Toa.

After a time, when Gali and Lewa began to speak of how Jaller and Takua had arrived at Kini-Nui – which was almost definitely the location of the Seventh Toa- and how it was up to them alone to set up a final defense against the Rahkshi, who would surely arrive; Kopaka took it upon himself to find Pohatu and Onua, who were lost during the battle of Onu-Koro.

Then, at the final showdown with the Rahkshi at Kini-Nui, the Toa, after Kopaka had arrived with Onua and Pohatu, defeated the Rahkshi with the help of the newly created Takanuva. The Toa of Light went down to Teridax’s lair and defeated him. Kopaka went down with the other Toa and Turaga after Hahli summoned them. Takutanuva then opened the gate to Metru Nui for them.

After the discovery of Metru Nui, the Toa went around the island to say their goodbyes and remember the past. Then the night before the Matoran, Turaga, and Toa would sail to Metru Nui, the Turaga gathered the Toa to tell them everything. They told them of the time when they were Toa Metru and what happened. After the Turaga finished their talk and the new day came, the Toa left for Metru Nui. Once they got there, they ran into six Doom Vipers, but defeated them using their Kakama Nuva. The Matoran settled in and began to rebuild the city. While rebuilding the Toa ran into Turaga Dume (and presumably the Rahaga). Then after some meetings with Nuju, Dume told the Toa his terrible discovery: Mata Nui was dying. The Toa then set off to Voya Nui to find the Mask of Life.

Kopaka eventually arrived on Voya Nui by a Toa Canister similar to the one he arrived on Mata Nui with. Upon arrival, Tahu insisted that they begin searching for the Mask of Life near Mount Valmai. While journeying to there, the Toa encountered the Piraka and a great battle began. Kopaka found himself fighting with Avak, and later got encased in a fire cell. Kopaka tried to escape but every time he tried to freeze the fire, it heated up and he eventually fell unconscious. Zaktan, the leader of the Piraka, ordered the other Piraka to throw him and the other Toa Nuva into Mt. Valmai, the active volcano. When the Piraka were just about to throw the Toa into their doom, an eruption occurred and the Piraka ran away. They defended themselves with what they could. But still the lava caught Kopaka on surprise, badly scorching his right leg. If it was not for the other Toa’s help, he could have died. Then the Toa were able to make a clean get-away, but only to come face to face with the Voya Nui Resistance Team. Thinking that the Nuva were just more Piraka “calling” themselves Toa, they attacked the weakened Toa. After a while of trying to not kill the Matoran, Kopaka just got fed up. Now fueled with rage, he went on to turn the tables. While not showing any pain from all the hits he took, Kopaka froze three of the Matoran, leaving Garan and Dalu alone. In the nick of time Balta came and told them that the Toa Nuva were real Toa. In the end, the Matoran and the Nuva aligned themselves together and tried to raid the Piraka’s base. However, Brutaka arrived and defeated the Nuva and the Matoran with one blow. Kopaka was placed in Brutaka’s custody with the others. Later, he along with the other Toa Nuva were rescued and begun their new mission of preparing the universe for Mata Nui’s awakening.

Kopaka traveled with the other Toa Nuva to fulfill the tasks given to them on a scroll. Their first task was to awaken the Bahrag and start the cleansing of Mata Nui. The next task was to retrieve the Staff of Artakha, which they believed to be on the island of Odina. Kopaka and the other Toa Nuva encountered The Shadowed One there, who informed that the staff was on Xia, and in exchange for that information, asked them to kill Roodaka. He and the other Toa went to Xia and found Roodaka, but rather than kill her, forced her to change the Rahaga back into Toa Hagah. Unfortunately, the staff had been stolen by Icarax.

Later, the Toa Nuva followed Icarax to the realm of Karzahni, where all the Toa but Gali were defeated. After the realm was destroyed by a Nova Blast unleashed by Gali, Kopaka was revived and then journeyed with Tahu to a chain of southern islands (including Artidax) where they needed to stop several active volcanoes. He was then teleported by Botar to Daxia where he saw the Staff of Artakha being used to restore the Universe to its former aspect.

After completing their missions, the Toa Nuva arrived on Artakha and stayed long enough to gain new armor. They were then transported to the Universe Core.

Toa Nuva Gali:

Gali as a Toa Nuva

The Toa Nuva returned to the surface as stronger beings and tested their power. Afterwards, they all decided to separate, against the will of Gali. Once they all left, Gali became mad at Onua for not saying anything at the meeting. Soon afterwards, six elite Bohrok called the Bohrok-Kal appeared. They stole the Nuva symbols, and the Toa Nuva lost their elemental powers. Hahli saw Gali attempting to control a tidal wave as her powers deserted her, and contacted Turaga Nokama for help.

Gali survived, and was consoled by Nokama, who led her to find a Kakama Nuva in the tunnel the Toa Metru used to escape from Metru Nui. Gali was locked in by Nokama, so she could learn a lesson. Gali found a carving of the Toa Metru, and recognized one as Nokama. She continued searching for the Kanohi, and saw what she thought were glowing fish, but what were actually eyes to a giant squid. The squid attacked her, and, though losing at first, beat back the squid after finding a Kakama Nuva, using it to vibrate herself through the tunnel and back to Naho Bay. When Gali asked Turaga Nokama if it was her that was pictured as a Toa on the carving, Nokama dismissed it.

While combating the Kal, Gali, Lewa, and Kopaka formed into Wairuha Nuva, but he fell to the Bohrok-Kal Kaita Ja. Gali, Tahu, and Kopaka also traversed to the Place of Shadow to recover several Kanohi Nuva, where they encountered Teridax and the Rahi Nui. They and the other Toa were saved by Vakama, who had clashed with the beast before.

When the Kal found the lair of the Bahrag, the Toa Nuva followed them. They found the Exo-Toa from earlier were fighting the Bohrok-Kal. The Kal defeated the Exo-Toa, and were about to place the Nuva symbols into the Nuva Cube and free the Bahrag, when Tahu summoned the Mask of Time. Though it did little good against the Kal, it gave Gali some time to think of another plan. The Toa Nuva figured that they were connected to the Nuva symbols and transferred their powers to the Kal. It fed the Kal power, and they overloaded, rendering them unable to free the Bahrag. The Bahrag were stopped, the Nuva received their powers back, and they returned to the surface.

Sometime later, the Mask of Light was discovered, by Takua and Jaller. Gali watched the Kolhii game and arrived at the destruction of Ta-Koro and Onu-Koro. There she, Tahu and the other Toa Nuva fought the Rahkshi, and were defeated. Gali and her fellow Toa clashed with the Rahkshi the Rahkshi several times throughout the island of Mata Nui. When Tahu was poisoned by a Lerahk, Gali used her power to cure Tahu of the poison he obtained on his mask. Afterward, she and the other five Toa Nuva met the Rahkshi at Kini-Nui, witnessing the death of Jaller, and the transformation of Takua to Takanuva, defeating the Rahkshi with his assistance. The Toa Nuva watched the fight between Teridax and Takanuva, as well as their merging into Takutanuva. The gate to Metru Nui was opened by Takutanuva, and the populace of Mata Nui passed underneath it.

Afterwards, the Matoran began creating boats to return to Metru Nui and the Toa Nuva learned of the Turaga’s past, as Toa Metru. They all sailed back home to Metru Nui, and were greeted by Turaga Dume and the Rahaga. She and the other Toa encountered six Doom Vipers, but they were able to defeat them using the Kakama Nuva.

Later, Dume revealed to the Toa Nuva that the Great Spirit was not only asleep, but was dying.

Gali and the others later boarded six Toa Canisters and arrived at Voya Nui in them. Once there, they were met by the Piraka who defeated them. Gali and the others had their masks and tools removed and was taken to Mount Valmai where they were going to be thrown into. However, before this could happen, the volcano erupted, causing the Piraka to drop the Toa and depart hastily. The Toa were revived, and journeyed down the volcano where they met with the Voya Nui Resistance Team who thought they were more Piraka. During the battle, Gali was hit by Dalu’s weapon and went mad until Axonn came and healed her. Later, the Toa Nuva made peace with the resistance and they launched an attack on the Piraka Stronghold, where they were defeated by Brutaka. The Toa were locked away into a chamber which drains the Toa’s Elemental Powers. They were later rescued by the resistance and met with the Toa Inika. After a brief discussion, it was agreed that the Toa Nuva must return to Metru Nui to fulfill their duty and prepare for their destiny.

Upon arriving back on Metru Nui, the Toa Nuva departed to the Great Temple without anybody noticing. There, they found a scroll which contained a list of things for the Toa to do in order to prepare for Mata Nui’s awakening. They started by reawakening the Bohrok swarms and then departed to retrieve an artifact called the Staff of Artakha. On their way, they passed through Odina, where they learned the location of the staff: Xia. When the Toa arrived in Xia, they found that the city was being destroyed as the Tahtorak and Kanohi Dragon battled against each other. The Toa met with Roodaka, and forced her to transform the Rahaga back into Toa Hagah. They succeeded, but at the same time learned of the existence of Makuta Icarax, who took the Staff of Artakha. The Toa went to the realm of Karzahni, where all the Toa Nuva but Gali was defeated by ambush. Seeing her fallen comrades, Gali unleashed a Nova Blast which destroyed the realm except for Lhikan’s Hau. Unfortunately, Icarax managed to get away, and the Toa Nuva decided that they would pursue other tasks for now. Gali was sent to the now barren Mata Nui to look through the Great Telescope. When she arrived, she found the Kardas Dragon, fatally injured from its fight with the Bohrok. She healed it as best she could and then went on to the Telescope. She noted the position of the Red Star as instructed, then, on an impulse, looked at it again with her Kanohi Akaku activated. She was shocked when she saw that there were living beings inside the star. She was then teleported by Botar to Daxia where she saw the Staff of Artakha being used to restore the Universe to its former aspect.

She and the other Toa Nuva departed to the land of Artakha, where they were given Adaptive Armor. They were then teleported to Karda Nui by the realm’s leader.

Toa Nuva Lewa:

Lewa as a Toa NuvaLewa Nuva comforts Tahu Nuva after having their Nuva symbols stolen.

After their transformation, the Toa Nuva decided to go their separate ways. Lewa was showing off his new abilities by flying above the village, when suddenly, he could no longer use his Elemental Powers, and plummeted towards the ground. Fortunately, he was saved by Kongu on his Gukko bird. He soon discovered that his Nuva Symbol, along with the other Toa Nuva’s, had been stolen by creatures known as Bohrok-Kal, who wished to use the elemental energies in the Nuva Symbols to free the Bahrag. They tried to get their Symbols back, but the Kal quickly defeated them. They searched for the Kanohi Nuva.

Sometime on his quest for the Kanohi Nuva, Lewa considered using his glider wings to fly, since he had gone somewhat stir-crazy not flying after the loss of his elemental powers. However as soon as he was ready, he was interrupted by Matau who had come to tell him of Tahu’s arrival. Lewa glided down to a patch in the forest where there was a roaring fire, that many of the Le-Matoran had trouble putting out. After some discussion, the two Toa teamed up and went looking for the Kanohi Nuva located in the forest. On their way they discovered a large number of swamp trees that had been uprooted and stacked into a wall. Upon further investigation they learned that the trees were much heavier than they should be, to which the deduced that it must have been the work of Nuhvok-Kal. They decided to create a trap for the Bohrok-Kal, where Tahu had to lead it into an ambush, during which Tahu actually took up vine-swinging in order to escape the beast, and ended up face-planting into the ground. After having threatened Lewa into telling no-one of what happened (to which he did anyway, to Matau) the Le-Matoran engaged in the ambush by attacking the Bohrok from all directions. They were able to capture it Krana-Kal and succeeded in finding the Kanohi Nuva.

Lewa eventually recovered the rest of his Kanohi Nuva. Shortly afterward, Lewa was tracking Kohrak-Kal through the jungle, and attempted to steal it’s Krana-Kal. However, the Kohrak-Kal created a powerful sonic wave, which Lewa tried to jump over. Unfortunately, the wave moved and engulfed him, which left him in shock. After he recovered, he merged with Gali and Kopaka to create Wairuha Nuva, and attacked Kohrak-Kal, Lehvak-Kal, and Gahlok-Kal. However, the three Bohrok-Kal merged into their own Kaita, and defeated Wairuha. Shortly afterward, the Bohrok-Kal found where the Bahrag were, and the Toa Nuva rushed to stop them. The Bohrok-Kal were close to placing the Symbols on the Nuva Cube, when Tahu used the Vahi, which he had received from Vakama after his transformation, in a last attempt to stop them. It failed, but bought the Toa Nuva enough time to find a way to stop the Kal. Deciding to go with Gali’s hunch, they tapped the power of their Nuva Symbols, which caused the Bohrok-Kal to loose control of their powers and destroy themselves. The Toa Nuva returned their stolen symbols to their villages.

Shortly afterward, the Avohkii, Mask of Light, was found by Takua, and he and Jaller set off to find the Seventh Toa. Lewa encountered them as they passed through Le-Wahi, and were attacked by an Ash Bear. Lewa managed to subdue the Rahi, and helped them get to Ko-Wahi. However, he had to leave after he learned that Ta-Koro had been destroyed by Rahkshi. When the Rahkshi attacked Onu-Koro, he joined in the fight, helping Takua escape from the Rahkshi. He also assisted in healing Tahu, who had been poisoned by Lerahk during the battle of Ta-Koro, and his condition worsened by Kurahk. He fought with the Rahkshi one last time at Kini-Nui, and, with the help of Tahu, trapped Lerahk, Guurahk, and Panrahk in glass. The other Rahkshi were destroyed by the Toa Nuva and Takanuva. Lewa would help in the construction of the Ussanui, and would later witness Takanuva defeat Teridax and rediscover Metru Nui.

After hearing the tales of the Turaga, and returning safely to the island city of Metru Nui, the Toa Nuva had to face six Doom Vipers. After that, Lewa helped in the reconstruction of Metru Nui, Later however, he and the other Toa discovered grave news from Turaga Dume: Mata Nui was not just sleeping, he was dying. The Toa immediately boarded Canisters and traveled to Voya Nui, or the “Daggers of Death”, where the only hope, the Kanohi Ignika, was located.

After learning about the news, Lewa arrived on Voya Nui. Lewa and the others fought the Piraka. During an encounter with Reidak, Reidak snapped one of his Air Katana in half. Lewa was later defeated, along with the other Toa, during the battle. Zaktan, the Piraka’s leader, ordered the five other Piraka to throw Lewa and the other Toa into Mount Valmai, but a volcano eruption postponed the Piraka’s plans. The Piraka left the Toa by the volcano because they believed that the Toa Nuva would be killed by the lava anyway, but the Nuva managed to escape at the last moment.

Just when they thought they were safe, they met the Voya Nui Resistance Team, who began to attack them. The Resistance didn’t believe they were real Toa, but that they were more Piraka. Luckily, Balta, who had just learned the truth from Axonn, told the others that they were real Toa. The twelve soon allied and formulated a plan to sneak into the Piraka’s Stronghold. Lewa and the other Toa manage to retrieve their Kanohi and Toa Tools, but they were knocked out by Brutaka. While the Toa were in Brutaka’s custody, the Resistance was taken captive by Reidak. Afterward, they were rescued by the Matoran Resistance from a chamber in which their powers were being drained from them. They then met up with the Toa Inika, Axonn, the Voya Nui Resistance Team, and Botar. After the Toa Inika went down through the Cord leading to Mahri Nui to retrieve the Ignika, Lewa left together with the other Toa Nuva to prepare the universe for Mata Nui’s awakening.

Lewa traveled with the other Toa Nuva to fulfill the Preparation Scroll. Their first task was to awaken the Bahrag and start the cleansing of Mata Nui. The next task is to retrieve the Staff of Artakha, that was possibly being held on the island of Odina. Lewa and the other Toa Nuva encountered The Shadowed One who asked them to kill Roodaka if he helped him find the staff. Tahu said yes, but later revealed to Gali that he had other plans. Lewa was sent back to Metru Nui to get the Rahaga and had Roodaka change the Rahaga back into Toa Hagah. When the Staff of Artakha was taken by the Makuta Icarax, Lewa went with the others to reclaim it. After being defeated by Icarax in Karzahni, and recovering Lhikan’s old Hau, the Toa Nuva split up to cover more tasks. Lewa disappeared, venturing to Mata Nui to dig up a sundial and place it in the Archives, as instructed by a mysterious voice. He was then reunited with the Toa Nuva in Daxia to witness the power of the Staff of Artakha.

Lewa then went to the land of Artakha by request of the realm’s ruler, and received Adaptive Armor. He and the other Toa were then teleported to Karda Nui.

Toa Nuva Pohatu:

Pohatu as a Toa NuvaPohatu Nuva in Mask of Light.

When the Bohrok-Kal stole the Nuva Symbols, Pohatu lost his powers along with the other Toa Nuva. He was told by Onewa that there was a Kanohi Hau Nuva in an Ice cave on Mount Ihu. He headed there and attempted to team up with Kopaka, continuously falling in the drifts, and even causing an avalanche. He eventually got Kopaka to agree to team up, when he saved him from a Muaka. After they reached the cave, he cleared the cave mouth from rocks with ease, and continued, going down onto a crevice to find the mask. They found the mask, but a tremor came, and Pohatu tried to shove Kopaka out of the way, Kopaka then grabbed the Hau Nuva, and tried to use it to shield Pohatu from the oncoming boulders. Pohatu was rendered unconscious and was covered by the rocks, and Kopaka thought him dead. He eventually woke up, and traveled through the tunnels until he wound up in Po-Wahi. He then set off to Po-Koro, and witnessed Kopaka giving Onewa the Hau Nuva, as a tribute to the “fallen” Toa of Stone. After letting Kopaka know that he was actually alive, and seeing Kopaka show some actual emotion, he took the mask.

Later, he encountered Gahlok-Kal, who magnetized him to a herd of Mahi until Takua found him. He and the other Toa Nuva then resumed their quest to obtain the Kanohi Nuva, during which Pohatu and Onua tried to seize the Krana-Kal off of Tahnok-Kal. The two were successful, but a Bohrok Va managed to put another Krana-Kal in, allowing the Tahnok-Kal to get away before they noticed.

Later, Pohatu and the other Toa Nuva journeyed to the Bahrag’s lair, following the Kal. The Nuva were able to catch up and they transferred their powers in the Nuva symbols to the Kal. It was so much power that the Bohrok Kal were overloaded and defeated by their original powers. Thus, the Toa Nuva regained their Elemental Powers and headed back to the surface.

Pohatu was one of the three Toa present when the Mask of Light was being translated. He left for Onu-Koro shortly thereafter. While questioning Takua on Jaller’s whereabouts, part of the cave imploded, and Vorahk, Kurahk, and Turahk entered Onu-Koro. After some struggles, Vorahk fought Onua, who started to drain his power. Pohatu ran to save Onua, but Turahk shot a beam of fear, causing Pohatu to freeze in fear. Pohatu recovered and used his climber claws to hold Turahk in place, while Onua collapsed the roof above them. They both ran out to the surface, where they were buried alive. Kopaka saved them, and the trio went to Kini-Nui. Pohatu used his climber claws to cuff Vorahk and Kurahk, while Tahu, Onua, Kopaka and Gali finished them off. After Takua became Takanuva, Pohatu helped in the construction of the Ussanui.

After Teridax was defeated, the Turaga related the history of Metru Nui to the Toa Nuva and Matoran. Afterwards, they constructed boats and made their return to the island-city. When they arrived, the Toa Nuva faced six Doom Vipers, and were able to defeat them using the Kakama Nuva. Afterwards Pohatu helped with the reconstruction of the city. Some time later, the Toa Nuva and the Turaga were immediately invited to a secret meeting of Dume’s. There, he along with the other Toa learned that the one they sworn to awake, Mata Nui, was dying, and his only hope was the Mask of Life which was located on Voya Nui.

Pohatu and the other Toa set off to this mysterious island in Canisters similar to the ones they arrived on Mata Nui. Upon arrival, they met with the Piraka, and a fight broke out. One by one, Pohatu witnessed his fellow Toa fall. Pohatu was later knocked out by Hakann, leaving Onua the only one left fighting, but he was eventually felled as well. Zaktan, the leader, did not dare to leave them alive, so he ordered them to remove the Toa’s tools and masks, and then throw them into Mount Valmai. The volcano erupted before the Piraka could do so, and the Toa Nuva escaped. However, they were attacked by a confused Voya Nui Resistance Team, who believed them to be more Piraka. Balta (Who had been freed from a cave by Axonn and informed of the Nuva) stopped his friends. The twelve heroes were knocked out after retrieving their masks by Brutaka. Pohatu was then rescued by the Resistance Team, and, alongside the other Toa Nuva, set off to a new mission: prepare the universe for Mata Nui’s awakening.

With the rest of the Toa Nuva, Pohatu worked to complete the Preparation Scroll. He helped re-release to Bohrok to level the island of Mata Nui. After this, the Toa Nuva traveled to Odina to retrieve the Staff of Artakha. Instead, they found The Shadowed One, who told them the Staff had been given to the Vortixx on Xia as payment. In exchange for this, he asked to Toa Nuva to kill the traitorous Roodaka, an ignored request. Before leaving, Pohatu set the stones of the Dark Hunter base to spontaneously collapse an hour after the Toa Nuva left the island.

Arriving on Xia, the Toa Nuva captured Roodaka and witnessed the fight between the Tahtorak and the Kanohi Dragon. At the Toa Nuva’s request, Roodaka de-mutated the Rahaga back into Toa Hagah. Shortly after this, the Toa Nuva departed to Karzahni in order to combat the member of the Brotherhood of Makuta who had stolen the Staff, Icarax. Once there, Pohatu and the others, except for Gali, were defeated by an ambush of Icarax’s. After Gali destroyed the realm, Pohatu was revived and was assigned a mission to retrieve an artifact called the “Heart of the Visorak” with Onua. He was then teleported by Botar to Daxia where he saw the Staff of Artakha being used to restore the Universe to its former aspect.

After completing their missions, the Toa Nuva arrived on Artakha and stayed long enough to gain new armor from the realm’s ruler. They were then transported to Karda Nui.

Toa Nuva Onua:

Onua as a Toa NuvaOnua battling Vorahk.

After returning to the surface, the Toa Nuva faced each other in a mock battle to display how much more prowess and power they had. With their newfound powers, the Toa Nuva decided they were now strong enough to face any threat alone, although Gali strongly disagreed.

As their unity shattered, the attack of the Bohrok-Kal began. The Kal proceeded to steal the Nuva Symbols that contained the Elemental energies of the Nuva. Now with their Elemental Powers gone, the Toa had to re-find their unity to defeat those monsters. They now had to search for the Kanohi Nuva, hoping they would give them more of an edge against the Kal.

Onua traveled with Whenua in the caves of Onu-Wahi, looking for a Kaukau Nuva. They found a giant tentacled worm along the way. Onua drove it back by creating a loud noise, slamming two boulders together. They also encountered a large amount of Kofo-Jaga. Later they encountered two Manas, guarding the Mask. Onua had a stroke of brilliance, and drilled through the walls, and released a small lava flow into the cave, which brought the Kofo-Jaga rushing in, and attacking the Manas. With the giant crabs distracted, Onua jumped over them and quickly grabbed the mask.

When all the masks were found, the six Toa Nuva were united once more, in a cavern deep under the island. They encountered the enormous Rahi Nui, which they defeated, and returned, all of them alive and well. The Toa began their search for the Kal by returning to the Bahrag in the nest.

When they arrived, they found the Bohrok-Kal were already there. Then, using the Kanohi Vahi that Vakama had given him, Tahu managed to hold off the Bohrok-Kal for a brief moment. Unfortunately the energy needed to use this mask was so enormous that Tahu nearly fainted and died. Finally, Gali came up with a plan to focus their minds on the Toa Symbols, channeling the powers of the symbols into the Kal, overwhelming them with power. The Toa Nuva regained their Elemental Powers and returned triumphantly to the surface.

After separating from Jaller, Takua and Pewku made their way to the village of Onu-Koro, where Pohatu and Onua were announcing the discovery of the Mask of Light. As they inquired where Jaller had gone, a group of Rahkshi including Vorahk, Kurahk, and Turahk burst into the cavern and began attacking the village.

A tremendous battle ensued as the rest of the Toa Nuva arrived to battle the Rahkshi. Onua attempted to fight Vorahk but was temporarily defeated when he used his Staff of Hunger to steal the Toa’s power.

After he awoke, he continued the battle and destroyed a good portion of the cave-ceiling, bringing it down on his assailants. It damaged too much of the area, however, and buried both Pohatu and he in the rubble. Kopaka luckily managed to save them.

Soon after, Pohatu and Onua were taken by Whenua to the outskirts of Po-Wahi and shown the Turaga’s collection of Kraata in stasis. Unfortunately, Guurahk and Panrahk attacked, generating a shockwave that shattered the tubes and sealed them inside.

They managed to blast their way out, however, and discovered that the Toa Nuva had luckily followed the Rahkshi to that area. Tahu and Kopaka sealed the cave behind them and only one Kraata got through: A Shadow Kraata.

Many more struggles took place all over the island, but the greatest took place at Kini-Nui. All six Toa had assembled to defend Takua and Jaller from the six Rahkshi and they united their powers against them. They protected them just long enough for the transformation of Takua into Takanuva to take place, which allowed for all the Rahkshi to be defeated.

Onua assisted the rest of the Toa in constructing the Ussanui out of the Rahkshi’s armor and he and Pohatu contributed the Shadow Kraata they had found so that the Ussanui could be powered towards the lair of the Makuta.

Upon arriving back on Metru Nui along with the others, the Toa Nuva and the Turaga were immediately invited to a secret meeting of Dume’s. There, Dume revealed that Mata Nui was dying, and his only hope was the Mask of Life located on the island of Voya Nui.

Onua eventually traveled to Voya Nui using a Toa Canister similar to the one he had used to arrive on Mata Nui. Upon arrival, Tahu insisted that they begin searching for the Mask of Life near Mount Valmai. While journeying there, the Toa encountered the Piraka and a great battle began.

Onua stayed in the battle the longest but eventually fell at the hands of Vezok. Zaktan, the leader of the Piraka, ordered the others to throw him and the rest of the Toa Nuva into Mount Valmai and get rid of any threat they might pose to him.

When the Piraka were just about to throw the Toa in the crater to their doom, an eruption occurred and they fled the area. The Nuva, having had their Kanohi and weapons removed, defended themselves from the eruption as best they could. When they finally managed to escape, they encountered the Voya Nui Resistance Team.

Thinking that the Nuva were just more Piraka calling themselves Toa, they attacked the vulnerable team. In the nick of time, however, Balta told the others that they were indeed real Toa. In the end, the Matoran and the Nuva allied themselves together and tried to raid the Piraka’s base.

Unfortunately, Brutaka arrived and defeated the Nuva and the Matoran with one blow. Onua was placed in the Piraka’s custody with the others.

Onua, along with the other Toa Nuva, was later rescued by the Voya Nui Resistance Team, who snuck into the Piraka’s fortress while the Toa Inika battled the Piraka. The Matoran discovered the Kanohi Nuva, and despite thinking the worst, they continued to search. But their fears were groundless, because they discovered the Nuva not long after. Onua and the others had been infected with Antidermis and hung up on a wall above a bottomless pit, then ordered to put all of their elemental energy into The Pit and then a little more. The Matoran freed the Toa, giving them back their masks and weapons. The twelve then met up with Axonn and Botar, who was carrying Brutaka, newly defeated by Axonn. The Toa spoke with Axonn, who revealed that the must find the Scroll of Preparations.

The Toa Nuva were sent by Axonn to Metru Nui’s Great Temple to retrieve a scroll on which was written several steps necessary to awaken Mata Nui.

Onua traveled with the other Toa Nuva to the island of Mata Nui, where they began the first phrase of their mission: awakening the Bohrok. The Toa were very hesitant to do this, however, and Onua had to step forward and unleash them by himself, for he knew that it was necessary.

Afterwards, they proceeded to Odina, where they sought out the Staff of Artakha. After a short discussion with The Shadowed One, they gained information on the staff and proceeded to Xia, where the Tahtorak and Kanohi Dragon were battling fiercely.

While the others tried to rescue the natives from the chaos, Onua burrowed underground to the place where the staff was held. There, he was defeated by Icarax, who took the staff from him. He rejoined the Toa Nuva and informed them of this, going with them on their trip to Karzahni.

There they were ambushed by Icarax and Onua was knocked unconscious. He was later revived after Gali destroyed the realm using a Nova Blast.

He was soon after sent journeying with Pohatu to find an artifact called the Heart of the Visorak. The two were found by Botar and teleported by him to Daxia where they witnessed the Staff of Artakha being used to restore the Universe to its condition before the Great Cataclysm.

Onua and the other Toa Nuva departed to the land of Artakha, where they were given Adaptive Armor. They were then teleported to Karda Nui by the realm’s leader.

Toa Takanuva;

Takanuva after his transformationTakanuva about to battle Teridax.

Takua’s greatest adventure began when he wandered off just before the Kolhii championship. Takua discovered the Great Kanohi Avohkii, Mask of Light. At the Kolhii Championship, which Takua’s adventuring had made him and Jaller late for, the Avohkii shone on Takua to indicate he was the one chosen to find the 7th Toa, however Takua tilted it to shine on Jaller, his best friend, instead. Turaga Vakama charged Jaller with the quest, but Jaller got Takua to come with him. The two soon departed with Pewku on their trip to search for the seventh Toa. After traveling most of Mata Nui, the three ended up at Kini-Nui. Almost immediately, Teridax’s Rahkshi began pursuing him, and in a final showdown took the life of Jaller. In his dying breath, Jaller handed Takua the Mask of Light and told him the truth he had seen about Takua’s identity. Takua placed the mask on his face, and was transformed into Takanuva, the Toa of Light.

Shortly after transforming, Takanuva helped defeat the Rahkshi. With the help of the Toa Nuva, he built a vehicle called the Ussanui, from Rahkshi and Bohrok-Kal parts and powered by a Kraata. What was Teridax’s returned to him, so the Kraata led Takanuva right to Mangaia. The Ussanui got wrecked when Takanuva used it to break through the door to the lair. It was then that Hahli emerged from the wreckage of the Ussanui and volunteered to be the Chronicler now that Takua was a Toa. Takanuva accepted, sending her up to the surface to summon the Matoran. Contrary to popular belief, he is not on the same power level as that of the Toa Nuva, nor is he a part of their Toa Team, though he is considered an honorary member.

There, Takanuva fought Teridax, who challenged Takanuva to a game of Kolhii. Light and Shadow clashed, until Hahli returned with the Matoran, Toa Nuva and the Turaga. Teridax then brought down the gate, sealing them all in his lair. It was at that moment that Takanuva succeeded in bringing down Teridax, winning the Kolhii match. Makuta rose, and stated that he was protecting Mata Nui, and had a duty to the Mask of Shadows. Takanuva then tried to pull off Teridax’s mask, but he resisted, and both Takanuva and Teridax fell into a pool of Energized Protodermis. Out of that pool emerged Takutanuva.

Takanuva’s powers illuminated Mata Nui’s true destiny, which was hidden by Teridax with the powers of his mask. As Teridax was maskless when he fell in the Protodermis, he could not hide it any longer. He lifted the huge gate carved in the shape of a Kanohi Hau Mask of Shielding, which opened upon Metru Nui. He stopped Hahli, running past with Jaller’s mask, and used some of Teridax’s life energy to bring Jaller back from the dead. Exhausted from bringing Jaller back, the gate then fell and crushed Takutanuva, separating them. Takanuva was killed, his mask sliding out the other side. The Turaga managed to bring him back only moments later. As for Teridax, he became the substance later called Antidermis by the Piraka.

Upon arriving at Metru Nui, Takanuva helped the reconstruction work of Metru Nui and guarded the Matoran of Metru Nui. Although he wanted to go with the Toa Nuva to Voya Nui, Turaga Dume insisted that it is Takanuva’s destiny to defend Metru Nui and guard the Matoran.

Takanuva then accompanied Jaller and the other Matoran on their way to Voya Nui, but at an archway that marked the gate to Karzahni’s realm, he could not continue, as the archway banished the very force of Light, so he was forced to turn back to Metru Nui after an emotional goodbye.

He later spotted Makuta Icarax diving into the Silver Sea around Metru Nui. The Makuta emerged carrying the Kanohi Kraahkan, but escaped before Takanuva could reach the spot where he was.

Several Frostelus also made attempts to invade the city, with Takanuva managing to successfully repel them.

Whilst patrolling Metru Nui, Takanuva felt a dark presence trying to invade his mind. Pushing back, he managed to locate the source: a Dark Hunter by the name of Dweller, who was hiding in the Archives. As he was rushing towards the Archives, however, a Shadow Leech dropped by Makuta Icarax jumped onto him and slowly started sucking out his light. As a being of light, the prospect of having his light being drained away was agonizing. Bearing the pain, Takanuva concentrated a light beam on the leech, incinerating it. When the Toa of Light awoke, he found himself in the dead Rahi specimen examination room in the Archives; part of his light had already been sucked out, granting him dual control over light and shadow.

In the room, he met Helryx and Krakua. Helryx quickly informed him of the Order of Mata Nui, and told him that he needed to help the Toa Nuva. After a brief scowling from Helryx, Krakua placed a Kratana on Takanuva’s mask and he was flushed with recollections of the Toa Mata’s past.

After the vision ended, Helryx told him that his mission was to inform the Toa Nuva that, if they succeed in awakening Mata Nui, the Energy Storms which devastated Karda Nui when Mata Nui first awoke and took over for Tren Krom would be unleashed once more, destroying everything in its path except the Codrex. Helryx told him that he had to go to Karda Nui and inform the Toa of the situation, and that they must take refuge in the Codrex. Takanuva agreed to go and help those he looked up to. However, he was uncertain as to who would help the Toa Mahri whilst he was gone. Helryx introduced him to Brutaka, who had captured Dweller. Despite that, Takanuva was shocked and angered that such a traitor would be asked to protect the city alongside the Toa Mahri. After a few tense moments between Helryx and Takanuva, Krakua tried to break up the tension by informing him that Brutaka’s Kanohi Olmak would be his means of transport to Karda Nui. Takanuva inspected the hairline cracks on the Olmak, wondering why it was still capable of functioning. He noted to Helryx that she was insane to trust Brutaka, and she replied that to be a Toa, you have to be insane. She then extended a hand to Takanuva, who shook it, and Krakua handed him the Mysterious Sundial. Brutaka then sent Takanuva to Karda Nui through his Olmak, although it was damaged and was not functioning properly.

The Beginning of The Toa Mata

Toa Mata

The Toa Mata, as seen in the opening cutscene.

The Toa Mata were the group of Toa who originally introduced BIONICLE and who first saved the island of Mata Nui from Teridax. These Toa later transformed into the Toa Nuva. It was their destiny to awaken the Great Spirit after he was put to sleep by Teridax.

Toa Tahu:

Tahu’s Toa Canister arrived on a beach near Ta-Wahi. When Tahu emerged, he found that some of his mechanical components had separated. He fused the pieces together, and realized he didn’t remember who he was or what he was doing there. After thinking awhile he remembered his name and rediscovered his fire powers. He wandered around Ta-Wahi, eventually arriving at the Charred Forest. There, he was ambushed by four Matoran, led by the Captain of the Guard, Jaller. They captured Tahu in a wooden Rahi trap but Tahu, however, easily burned down the trap with his fire sword. The Matoran were about to attack him but, however, Vakama, Turaga of Ta-Koro, came and told the troop that Tahu was a Toa and their protector. The Matoran and the Turaga took Tahu to Ta-Koro where Vakama told him about the Makuta, Teridax. Teridax had been on Mata Nui for a thousand years, tormenting the Matoran. He informed Tahu that the only way he could confront Teridax directly was to collect the six Great Kanohi masks hidden throughout the island. Toa Tahu then started on his journey to find them, unaware that there were five other Toa who shared the same destiny.

Very soon, Tahu met the five other Toa, Kopaka, Gali, Lewa, Pohatu, and Onua. They all shared tales of how they had arrived on Mata Nui, with the exception of the cold and quiet Kopaka. They then began discussing how they would find the Kanohi Masks. Tahu, Gali, Pohatu, and Onua all agreed that it would be best to search in pairs, while Kopaka and Lewa wanted to work alone. Great amounts of arguments followed, until a great storm erupted. The ground shook, lightning clashed, and the Toa were showered upon by rain and hail. It was a storm created by Teridax, and the storm ended almost as fast as it came. The Toa then decided to go their separate ways, which greatly angered Tahu.

In his anger, he almost burned Jaller, who was trying to find him. Jaller told him that the Kanohi Akaku, the Great Mask of X-Ray Vision, was in the deepest cavern in Onu-Wahi, a series of dark and deep caves on Mata Nui. Tahu searched through Onu-Wahi, eventually coming to a large cavern, with a deep pit in the middle and a long bridge stretching across to another ledge where the mask was. Tahu started across the bridge when dozens of Kofo-Jaga scorpions attacked him. Tahu tried to attack them with fire, but they grew stronger in the heat. Almost all of them had attached to his body. Thinking quickly of Lewa, Tahu started flipping around the narrow bridge. The Rahi could not hold on very long and fell into the chasm below. Tahu jumped back onto the bridge, but one Kofo-Jaga was still holding on. He easily removed the creature, but he noticed the Infected Kanohi on its body. Tahu removed the mask, and the Kofo-Jaga, now free from Teridax, scurried away. Tahu did not know what it meant at the time, and a great wind blew the mask into the chasm. Tahu then quickly retrieved the Akaku.

Onua, discovering that the island was fraught with danger, decided that the Toa needed to unite. He called a meeting, in front of a mountain. The meeting once again was filled with bickering. Tahu was the same as in the previous meeting, only this time, he wanted to destroy every Rahi they crossed paths with. Lewa got distracted and kept investing his attention elsewhere. Kopaka would get immensely frustrated by the arguments. Onua and Gali were the only ones in peace, wanting to join together, and free the Rahi. The meeting was, once again, interrupted by Teridax. This time, he sent lava from the mountains toward the Toa. Onua, thinking quickly, ordered Lewa tos use his new Mask of speed to take him up to the magma. Onua dug a great trench to catch the lava flow. Teridax would not cease, so he sent Rahi at the four other Toa. However, with the combined efforts of Kopaka’s ice and Pohatu’s stone, the Rahi were unable to defeat them. Growing frustrated, Teridax sent masses of sand towards Tahu. Tahu used his abilities to melt the sand into glass. Soon Nui-Rama emerged and caught Tahu. Tahu, wishing he had the Mask of Levitation, was picked up and dropped to fall to his death. He used his heat to slow the fall, but Onua was the one who saved him with his Mask of Strength. Gali, Kopaka, Lewa, and Pohatu were still being attacked by Rahi, but Gali finally summoned her power of water to drown the Rahi. Teridax used his last hope, the Nui-Rama, to attack the Toa. Onua threw a boulder at the creatures, and the battle was ended. Most of the Toa (except Kopaka) now agreed that they indeed must work together.

The Rahi were no match for the Toa working together, and the Toa quickly found the Kanohi masks. Gali mentioned that Nokama told her that after finding the Masks of Power, they would need to acquire a golden Kanohi. This reminded Kopaka of a vision he had before joining with the other Toa about Kini-Nui, a temple in the center of Mata Nui. The Toa trekked to the temple for their new goal. The Toa found life size carvings of themselves etched in the temple’s side. The Toa figured out that they needed to place their masks into the carvings. Once they had placed all their masks into the carving, a new gold mask replaced them. The Toa realized that the next step was to face Teridax himself. However, if the Rahi were to attack the temple, the Toa would be trapped underground. They were then greeted by the Chronicler’s Company, a small group composed of Kapura, Tamaru, Kopeke, Taipu, Hafu, Macku, and Takua. The Matoran agreed to defend the temple while the Toa descended. Gali made a mental link between her and Takua, which would show what the Toa would see in Mangaia. The Toa proceeded into the temple. The Toa merged the Makoki stones, which they had collected earlier, and proceeded into the now opened Mangaia.

Tahu and the others ventured down through the dark tunnels of Mangaia, eventually coming to a giant iron door. They were about to enter through the door when they were attacked by squat creatures called the Manas. The Toa tried their best to fight the Rahi, but even working together wasn’t enough. Kopaka and Gali shared a vision that they once had, a vision about uniting in a much more physical way, as two Toa Kaita. The Toa tried it, and Tahu, Pohatu, and Onua combined into Akamai, while Lewa, Gali, and Kopaka combined into Wairuha. Though Akamai and Wairuha battled the Manas as best they could, their power wasn’t enough to defeat them. By accident, a Manas shoved Wairuha into one of many small towers within Mangaia. Akamai then noticed a nearby Manas shutting down from extreme cold. The two Toa Kaita discovered that the small towers actually kept the Manas warm enough to not shut down from the cold. They destroyed all the towers, and defeated the Manas, who were weakened enough for the Kaita to freeze them and remove their masks. They then walked up to a doorway which opened up to them. Once inside, the Toa Kaita were forced to separate due to the presence of Teridax.

As the Toa went deeper into this vacant room, they heard a voice in their heads. They identified the voice as Teridax, and the Toa prepared themselves for battle. Out of the shadows appeared six forms, each one a mirror image of the Toa Mata. However, they were black and pitted, and bore dark resemblances to their doppelganger.

The Shadow Toa attacked their counterpart Toa Mata, and the group went off in separate battles. However, since the Shadow Toa were the mirror images of the originals, the Toa Mata were unable to defeat them alone. Soon, the Toa realized that their opponents were merely extensions of themselves, and absorbed them back into their body. When all the Shadow Toa were destroyed, the Toa Mata regrouped and entered the next room.

A whirling void of pieces swirled above their heads as they entered. Teridax wandered out from below the void posing as a mere Matoran, infected like an infected mask. The Toa were stunned, expecting a more powerful foe. Teridax told them that they could not destroy him, saying that they could not destroy him any more than the sea, the wind, or the void. He continued, explaining that he was the power of destruction, and that he would destroy the Toa. Teridax then transformed himself into a swirling monster, combining himself with the void. Tendril-like arms attacked the Toa from all around them. The Toa were no match for Teridax’s new form, and even the Hau could not protect them. However, Tahu ordered to the others to work together against the beast. Thus, Tahu brought the full force of fire upon Makuta in a swirling inferno of flame. Kopaka likewise let loose a stream of swirling ice, Gali directed a twisting torrent of water at Teridax, Lewa unleashed a vortex of his own in a strong gust of air, and Onua created a blast of earth that reached the Teridax at the same time as a mighty shock wave issued forth from Pohatu’s stomping foot. The converging forces of all six Toa were too much for Teridax to withstand, and the void of parts fell to the ground, leaving nothing but a pile of debris. Each of the Toa were then caught in six pillars of light, pulling them back to Kini-Nui.

Upon arriving at the Kini-Nui once more, The Toa Mata found themselves confronted by a Ta-Matoran who would only say one word over and over: “Bohrok.” The Toa Mata quickly returned to Ta-Koro using their Kanohi Kakama to investigate this new threat.

When they arrived, they found the Pahrak and the Kohrak swarms tearing up the ground outside the lava bridge. The Toa immediately launched into action. After Lewa was frozen Tahu saved him and drove away the Kohrak. Gali and Lewa combined their powers to make a massive lightning storm. It struck the Bohrok swarms, and they rushed off, abandoning one of their wounded. Tahu discovered the Krana inside the Bohrok. Soon Turaga Vakama arrived and told the Toa the legends of the Bohrok, and about the Krana and Bohrok Va. He explained that the Toa needed eight of the six different breeds to successfully defeat the Bohrok invasion, but did not reveal what this would unlock or perform.

The Toa then fought many battles with the Bohrok, collecting all kinds of Krana. Le-Koro was completely overrun, and the Turaga captured. When Lewa arrived to save his village, the Bohrok caught him as well, and forced him to wear a Krana. He was possessed by the Bahrag and when Onua confronted him, he nearly killed the Earth Toa. However, Lewa’s values won over before he did serious damage. Onua and Lewa headed away to meet the rest of the Toa, leaving a Boxor squadron, Ta-Koro Guardsmen, and two escapees, Kongu and Tamaru to recapture the village.

Tahu didn’t trust Lewa after this, due to the influence of the Krana on Lewa’s mind. Tahu knew how powerful this was due to the fact that a Krana had infected him for a very short time, but he removed it before it could do serious damage. Tahu later smashed hordes of Kohrak defending his village and collected their Krana, when Toa Kopaka showed up. Kopaka revealed he had tracked a Bohrok Va to their lair, a massive tunnel stretching far beneath the island’s surface. Tahu went to investigate for himself, and wanted to go down immediately. But Kopaka persuaded him to wait for the others.

The rest of the Toa assembled and joined together to enter the massive cavern, ready to put an end to the Bohrok swarm’s invasion of Mata Nui.

The six Toa traveled through the Bohrok’s hive, and Onua noted that the walls could not have been carved by Matoran, for they were too smooth, too perfect for Matoran tools. They passed a large swarm of all Bohrok breeds heading for the surface to complete the mission of cleansing the island.

Eventually the six came to a stone passage in the floor. Tahu volunteered to investigate, and after he passed through, the door slammed shut. The remaining Toa Mata could not get through, until Lewa realized why nothing could smash the door–it wasn’t real. The Toa escaped the tunnel.

Tahu, meanwhile, was heating the air in the Bohrok Nest he had landed in, doing heavy damage to the cavern structure and Bohrok not yet deployed to the surface. The Toa found themselves in a circular chamber with slots on the floor. The Toa inserted their Krana, and six doors opened. Each Toa entered, and found a massive suit of armor. They donned these Exo-Toa, and soon discovered the Bahrag, queens of the swarms, Cahdok and Gahdok. Trying to lure the Bahrag out into the open, the Toa drove the two towards each other, and unwittingly increased their powers.

Unable to triumph in their Exo-Toa suits, which drained elemental powers, the Toa removed the suits and combined elemental energies, encasing the Bahrag in a solid cage of Protodermis. Then, the earth ruptured beneath them, and the six Toa fell straight into a massive chamber of Energized Protodermis, which transformed them, giving them new masks, tools, armor, and powers. With this transformation, Tahu christened them “Toa Nuva”.

Toa Kopaka:

Kopaka saving Turaga Nuju.

Kopaka first awoke when his canister blasted open when Takua summoned the six Toa. After piecing himself together, he met Matoro, whom Kopaka thought was an enemy. Matoro told Kopaka of his quest and about collecting the five other Kanohi Masks. As they walked onward, a Nui-Rama attacked them, causing Matoro to fall over the edge, but was saved by Kopaka. Nuju saw this brave deed and began to tell Kopaka more about his quest. Kopaka, Nuju, and Matoro then split up and Kopaka departed to find his mask at “the place of far-seeing”. While climbing up a mountain, Kopaka met Pohatu, who accidentally crushed him while practicing. Undaunted, Kopaka went on, and reluctantly allowed Pohatu to tag along. After reaching the top and finding a Great Hau, Kopaka noticed four strange beings of great power (the Toa). Kopaka and Pohatu defeated a Kane-Ra together on their way to the other Toa and the Toa all officially meet for the first time. But they went their separate ways to search for more Kanohi. After Kopaka found more masks, Onua called another meeting for the Toa. They decided to work together just as Makuta Teridax launched an attack. Kopaka and Gali defeated a Muaka, while the other Toa defeated other Rahi/obstacles. Once again the Toa split up to complete their mask collecting, and once again they regrouped at Kini-Nui. There Kopaka received his Golden Kanohi and the Toa entered the path to Teridax’s lair, the Mangaia. On their way the Toa encountered Manas, and Gali and Kopaka agreed based on their visions that the Toa should combine form with Lewa, to become a Toa Kaita. They defeated the Manas, and then the Shadow Toa. After a hard battle, the Toa worked together to defeat Teridax. Kopaka, along with the other Toa, was transported back to the surface after their victory.

Just a few hours after the Toa’s victory over Teridax, the Toa got word of terrible creatures, the Bohrok, that were destroying Ta-Koro. Kopaka followed along with the other Toa as they made haste to see what was going on. They found Pahrak and Kohrak destroying the village. After a fight with the Bohrok, and an explanation from Vakama, each Toa set off on their new task: Collect the eight different types of Krana. Kopaka first returned to his village to make sure nothing has happened to it. After seeing that nothing had, he set off to find the eight Krana. While on his way collecting his set of eight, Kopaka learned some devastating news: the Bohrok came from within Mata Nui itself! Kopaka found Tahu and showed him the Bohrok nest, then he continued to find more Krana. Once he and the other Toa found all eight Krana, they met together and entered into the nest. Tahu decided to investigate the nest alone. In the end the Toa were in a seemingly impossible trap, but then Kopaka stopped the lava flow from getting to them. After Tahu heated up the nest until it exploded and Lewa figured out that the strange impenetrable wall was actually an illusion created by the Bahrag the Toa entered the chamber where the Exo-Toa were stored. Kopaka (along with the others) placed his Krana in their correct places and entered his own door to don the Exo-Toa. There they encountered the Bahrag and battled them, but realized that the suits hindered their Elemental Powers. They shed them and combined their powers into one stream of power, causing the Bahrag to be trapped in a Protodermis cage. Then, for some unknown reason, the floor gave way, causing the Toa to be immersed in Energized Protodermis. Kopaka was transformed into Kopaka Nuva.

Kopaka is cool, calculating and methodical in his actions. His long ice blade cuts and melts ice; one skillful swipe can cause avalanches or instantly freeze anything it touches. It is believed that Kopaka brings the winters, and the long cold nights…and it is known that his power strikes a balance against the fiery presence of Tahu. Kopaka prefers to work alone. He is the least communicative of the Toa, and will only join forces with the others if it’s absolutely necessary for his own survival. Kopaka is most at home skiing up and down the slopes of Mount Ihu with blazing speed and unmatched skill.

Toa Gali:

Gali’s Toa Canister arrived on a beach near Le-Wahi. When Gali emerged, she was in pieces and had to put her pieces together to quickly rebuild herself. Having forgotten everything but her name, she wandered into the Le-Wahi jungle.

Gali soon met the five other Toa, Kopaka, Tahu, Lewa, Pohatu, and Onua. They all shared tales of how they had arrived there, with the exception of Kopaka. They then started discussing how they would find the Kanohi Masks. Tahu, Gali, Pohatu, and Onua all agreed that it would be best to search in pairs, while Kopaka and Lewa wanted to work alone. Arguments ensued, until a storm conjured by their nemesis, Teridax, disrupted the conversation. The Toa went their seperate ways to search for masks.

Gali began by visiting her village, as she was the only Toa who had not done so. After departing from Ga-Koro, she visited the domain of Le-Wahi, where she saved Lewa from waters being manipulated by the Makuta. She then traveled to mountainous peaks to retrieve a Kanohi mask of her own, a Miru. She was caught in an avalanche, but used the mask power to travel to the ground safely. She was ambushed by Nui-Jaga and Tarakava, but was saved by Tahu. During the course of the battle, she was struck by the Tarakava and knocked unconscious. Her body was enveloped and protected by the ocean, and she experienced a vision of Wairuha and Akamai, who foretold of their own coming. She later washed up on shore, and Tahu took her to another meeting of the Toa. The meeting was again interrupted by Teridax, who unleashed various Rahi against the Toa, and even turned the elements against them.

The Toa split into seperate groups to recover their remaining masks. Gali, Onua, and Kopaka traversed underwater to claim one of Tahu’s remaining masks. After subduing a Tarakava, the pair realized a connection between the masks the Rahi wore, and their personality.

Gali left the group briefly to rescue her village from another Tarakava, and removed it’s infected mask. She left soon after defeating it, however, to help recover the remaining masks.

After Tahu accidentally lit a tree on fire, Gali was very angry at him, as his brash action nearly burned down the whole forest. They forgot their quarrel quickly, and went with the rest of the Toa to Kini-Nui, where they each received Golden Kanohi. The Chronicler’s Company arrived, and pledged to defend the sacred location while the Toa confronted Teridax.

Before the six Toa Mata descended, Gali established a mental link with Takua, so he could know what was going on with the Toa. The Toa descended into Mangaia. There, Gali, Lewa, and Kopaka were formed into Wairuha, who set out to defeat the Manas with his brother, Akamai. As the Toa drew closer to Teridax, the two Toa Kaita formed back into six Toa. The link Gali made with Takua was soon broken afterward. Then Gali and the others faced the Shadow Toa. After them, Gali and the others came upon Teridax. Teridax appeared in the form of a Matoran wearing an infected mask. After conversing with the Toa, Teridax took the form of a void and attacked. Tahu called to each of the Toa to work together and unleash their Elemental Powers. Teridax could not bear it and he retreated. With their victory, the Toa were transported to the surface in beams of light.

Soon after arriving on the surface once more, the ground shook, signaling the waking of the Bohrok. Bohrok. They rushed to Ta-Koro and found it was being attacked by a swarm of Pahrak and Kohrak. Gali and Lewa combined their powers to make the creatures flee. The Toa found out from Vakama that they needed to gather the Krana; the “brains” of the Bohrok.

Gali and the other five Toa gathered the eight types of Krana and went down into the Bohrok’s lair. They found six doors with eight slots in front of them. When the Toa placed the Krana into those slots, the doors opened, and revealed six sets of Exo-Toa armor. They Toa did battle with the the Bohrok queens, and the Toa defeated them with their elemental powers. The Bohrok queens were imprisoned, and the Toa fell into chambers of Energized Protodermis, and were transformed into Toa Nuva. Each Toa Nuva received a more powerful mask, called a Kanohi Nuva, better tools, and better armor, as well as an enhancement of elemental control. Each also received a Nuva Symbol, which tied them to their elemental powers.

Toa Lewa:

Lewa met up with the other Toa shortly, and then left to find his Kanohi masks. On the way, he ran into Gali, and rescued her when she fell into the swamp. He learned from Matau the location of his first mask, the Kanohi Kakama. Unfortunately for him, it was hidden in an underwater cave. On the way to the mask, he was attacked by a Nui-Jaga, but he buried it under trees and entered the cave. After some difficulty, he was able to recover the Kanohi and sped out of the underwater cave using the newfound powers the Kanohi granted him. Shortly afterward, he was swinging on vines high up in the canopy when he was attacked by a Nui-Rama. It knocked his mask off, and he plummeted down, towards the waiting jaws of a Muaka. Fortunately, he was saved by Onua, who had created a hole in the ground beneath the Rahi. Lewa met up with the other Toa again when Onua called them together for a meeting. However, Teridax had been watching this, and caused the Mangai Volcano to erupt. Lewa used his Kakama to help Onua dig a trench that stopped the lava. Lewa had soon collected all of his masks, but he was captured by Rahi under Teridax’s control. His mask was replaced with an infected Miru and he was forced to oversee the Le-Matoran, who had been enslaved and made to work in the Nui-Rama hive. He was found by Onua, who fought with Lewa and managed to remove the mask.

Shortly afterward, he received his Golden Kanohi, and descended with the other Toa beneath the Kini-Nui. He merged with Gali and Kopaka into the Toa Kaita Wairuha, and, along with the other Toa Kaita, Akamai, defeated the Manas that guarded the Mangaia, but they soon had to separate into the six Toa. They fought against the Shadow Toa, and managed to defeat them by accepting the shadows were a part of themselves. They then confronted the Teridax himself, who appeared before them as a simple Matoran. However, he quickly turned into a swirling mass of tendrils, and he nearly defeated the Toa. However, they blasted him with their elemental powers, and the swirling mass of parts and tendrils crashed to the ground. The Toa returned triumphantly to the surface.

Shortly after leaving the Kini-Nui, the Toa felt a strange shaking throughout the island. A Ta-Matoran arrived, muttering one word: Bohrok. The Toa headed for Ta-Koro, and found the Pahrak and Kohrak attacking the village. Lewa charged into battle first, but was trapped in ice by the Kohrak. Fortunately, Tahu saved him, and melted the ice. The battle was soon ended when Lewa and Gali combined their powers to create a thunderstorm that drove the Bohrok off. Vakama explained to them what Bohrok were, and that they needed to collect the eight breeds of Krana. Lewa headed to Le-Koro to make sure his village was all right. Unfortunately, it wasn’t; Lehvak had attacked Le-Koro, and the entire population was controlled by the parasitic Krana. Lewa’s mask was taken away, and replaced by a Krana. He began helping the Bohrok to “cleanse” the island. However, he encountered Onua, who had been searching for him after recovering his Miru from a group of Lehvak Va. The Krana-controlled Lewa attacked Onua, and nearly defeated him. However, Onua knew that the Krana was not in control of Lewa’s will, and convinced him to remove the Krana. Shortly afterward, Le-Koro was liberated by Matoran in Boxor vehicles. After collecting all the Krana, the Toa descended into a Bohrok Nest found by Kopaka. They became separated from Tahu when a wall moved in front of them. They soon found themselves trapped in the tunnel when molten lava came rushing towards them from the other side of the tunnel. As Kopaka held off the lava with ice, Onua and Pohatu tried to break through the wall, but found it impossible. Lewa realized the wall was nothing more then an illusion, and they were able to escape. After meeting up with Tahu, they found six Exo-Toa, and used them to fight the Bahrag, the queens of the swarms. However, Lewa found himself half-frozen in ice. Tahu realized the Exo-Toa hindered their Elemental Abilities, and they shed the suits of armor. The Toa combined their elemental powers, trapping the Bahrag in Protodermis. However, the Toa fell through the ground, and were immersed in Energized Protodermis, transforming them into the Toa Nuva.

Toa Pohatu:

Pohatu meets Onua.

Pohatu is so immensely strong that he can literally move mountains. He can make massive rocks explode like bombs or roll with great precision towards an attacker. His huge feet contain great power, smashing even the most unyielding stones with a single kick! All the Toa like Pohatu for his kind nature and for his rock-solid dependability. He’s slow, but friendly and reliable. He’s not good at snap decisions, but when he makes a decision to do something, he stands firm until the end–so DON’T get in his way! Whenever there is trouble, Pohatu will always be there behind you, an immovable force that few enemies can dislodge. His only fear is water: he cannot swim, and he sinks…like a stone. Pohatu inhabits the foothills of Mount Ihu, moving slowly but sure-footedly among the rocks and boulders at the base of the great mountain.

Toa Onua:

Onua is at home below ground. With his huge hands he scrapes out tunnels in the rocky cliffs over Papu Niho Reef. His low, squat body and head allow him to move quickly in tunnels and his infrared eyes give him amazing night vision. In daylight his eyesight is poor, although he compensates with amazingly powerful hearing. He is slower on open land than underground, but has incredible strength and surprising dexterity. Onua is at one with the land. He can hear trouble coming from miles away, and on occasion can even persuade the landscape to do his bidding-which is very useful when under attack.
