Toa Mata Nui

History

After drifting through space, Mata Nui eventually crash landed on the planet of Bara Magna. Soon after forming a new body, Mata Nui was attacked by one of the native creatures, though he managed to defeat it. Traversing through the desert, he encountered the Agori Metus, and asked for a ride. The Agori agreed, and Mata Nui introduced himself as the two set off. On their way to the village of Vulcanus, the two were attacked by a massive Sand Bat, which knocked them off their vehicle. Mata Nui, believing the creature to be like the Rahi of the Matoran Universe, suggested knocking its mask off, a notion laughed at by Metus. Standing his ground, Mata Nui struck the creature, though his attack had no effect. Puzzled at the behavior of the Sand Bat, Mata Nui eventually realized that the creature despised sunlight, and worked with Metus to keep it above the ground. As the sun started to take its toll on the Sand Bat, Mata Nui let it retreat underground as an act of mercy, convinced that the Sand Bat had learned to respect the surface world.

Abilities and Traits

After arriving on Bara Magna, Mata Nui formed himself a new body, though his new form is entirely powerless. He introduced himself as “Toa” Mata Nui to Metus as he desires to be recognized as a hero, and labeled himself as such in an attempt to be seen like one. However, the inhabitants of Bara Magna have never heard of Toa, and he instead needed to prove his worth through his deeds.

Mask and Tools

Mata Nui bears the Kanohi Ignika, which his spirit is sealed in. As he never had to wear Kanohi, he does not know how to use the powers of one, and is unable to access the Ignika’s abilities.

As a Toa, Mata Nui carries the Scarab Shield and a sword which he found in the desert.

Ackar

Ackar is a Glatorian working for the Fire Tribe, and the only Glatorian currently in their employ.

History

Ackar came into being on Spherus Magna prior to any of the other Glatorian. He participated in the Core War on Spherus Magna, and fought over Energized Protodermis.

After the Shattering occurred, and the new social system had been developed, Ackar became a Glatorian of Fire Tribe, and eventually gained the position of their top Glatorian. He has won the Great Tournament many times over the past years.

The Fire Tribe recently contracted Ackar to fight the Ice Tribe warrior Gelu. Ackar defeated Gelu, earning Vulcanus a large supply of Exsidian.

Ackar, along with the other Glatorian, traveled to the Arena Magna in order to take part in the Great Tournament. The event was interrupted by the invading Skrall army, and Ackar fought beside the other Glatorian in order to fend them off. The Skrall army eventually overwhelmed the Glatorian and claimed the city. Ackar returned to Vulcanus with several Agori in order to inform the village of the occurrence.

Abilities and Traits

Though a powerful warrior, Ackar has developed a confidence problem, and his fighting skills have suffered as a result. Ackar himself attributes it to old age.

Tools

Ackar carries a Flame Sword, and also wields a Thornax Launcher.

Kiina

Kiina is a female Glatorian, allied with the Water Tribe on Bara Magna.

History

Kiina fought for the Water Tribe on Spherus Magna during the Core War. The war ended when The Shattering occurred.

Kiina became the secondary Glatorian for the the village of Tajun, fighting the lesser matches for them.

The Agori Metus, seeking to train Kiina, hired Strakk to engage in a practice match with her. Kiina attacked Strakk with an unexpected ferocity, and defeated the Ice Tribe warrior.

Kiina later traveled to the Arena Magna, in order to participate in the Great Tournament. During the first match, the arena was assaulted by an army of Skrall. Kiina and the other Glatorian attempted to repel the Skrall, but were eventually forced to abandon the arena, and return to their villages.

Abilities and Traits

Kiina is very aggressive and pushy, traits that are disliked by Agori and Glatorian. However, they make her an excellent fighter in the arena. She wants to leave the planet of Bara Magna, and talks about this desire frequently.

Tools

Kiina wields a dual-sided Vapor Trident as her main weapon. She also carries a Thornax Launcher.

Vastus

Vastus is the prime Glatorian of the Jungle Tribe on Bara Magna.

Biography

The Element Lord of Jungle enlisted Vastus to fight for the control of Energized Protodermis. The war was ended by the Shattering which struck the planet, shattering it into several pieces. Vastus was isolated on the largest fragment, Bara Magna, along with many others. When the tribe joined the developing social system, Vastus became a Glatorian, and eventually became the prime Glatorian of the village of Tesara.

Vastus once won the Great Tournament in Atero, and reigned as champion for a year.

Vastus recently participated in three consecutive battles for the Jungle Tribe. When the Jungle Tribe was drawn into a dispute with the Rock Tribe, Vastus was unable to fight due to fatigue.

Along with the other Glatorian, Vastus traveled to Atero in order to participate in the Great Tournament. During the first match of the tournament, the arena was invaded by an army of Skrall. Vastus and the other Glatorian attempted to repel the Skrall forces, but were eventually overpowered, and forced to flee the city.

Abilities and Traits

As a result of the actions he committed during the Core War, Vastus is extremely guilt-ridden, and seeks to atone for his crimes.

Tools

Vastus carries a Venom Spear, which has a Thornax Launcher affixed to the end of it.

Gelu

Gelu is a retired Glatorian, now working for the Ice Tribe as a convoy escort.

History

On Spherus Magna, Gelu fought in the Core War with the Ice Tribe. After The Shattering occurred, he was stranded on Bara Magna and remained with the Ice Tribe.

Gelu was later trained in combat by the Ice Tribe, and knew the legendary fighter Certavus. When Certavus died, Strakk took his place as the primary Glatorian of the village, and Gelu became the secondary fighter.

As they could not spare Strakk at the time, the Ice Tribe at one point chose Gelu to fight Ackar. Gelu lost the fight, and Iconox became in debt to Vulcanus for a large amount of Exsidian.

Gelu traveled to the Arena Magna in order to participate in the yearly tournament. However, the first match was interrupted by the invading Skrall army, and Gelu retreated to Iconox with several other Agori. He retired from being a Glatorian shortly after the attack.

Abilities and Traits

Gelu is willing to go through greater danger for more payment, such as choosing to be a caravan escort rather than a Glatorian.

Tools

Gelu wields the double-bladed Ice Slicer and a Thornax Launcher.

Stronius

Stronius is a special forces Skrall, in the service of the Rock Tribe.

Biography

Originally a nameless Skrall, he was one of the special forces, gifted with greater strength and agility. After the discovery of Energized Protodermis, he fought in the Core War on Spherus Magna, commanded by Tuma. Due to his effectiveness as a soldier, he was granted the name “Stronius”. When the Shattering broke the planet into several pieces, Stronius was separated from his homeland along with the rest of the Skrall.

A band of shapeshifters known as the Baterra began attacking the Skrall, obliterating many of their number. Despite the prowess of the shapeshifters, Stronius managed to incapacitate one of them, inadvertently discovering that they were machines. Tuma eventually ordered a massive migration through the Black Spike Mountains in order to escape extinction. The Skrall then took up residence in the city of Roxtus.

Abilities and Traits

As a special forces Skrall, Stronius possesses greater strength and agility than the warrior class, as well as being a quicker thinker. He is described as a fearsome and cruel warrior.

Tools

Stronius wields a Thorny Club, and also carries a Thornax Launcher.

Flame Claws

The Flame Claws are used by the exiled Glatorian Malum as his primary weapons. The claws are both a tool and a part of his armor, and are not physically a part of his anatomy.

Water Blades

The Water Blades are a pair of blade-like weapons wielded by the Glatorian Tarix.

Jungle Shield

The Glatorian Gresh wields the Jungle Shield as his primary weapon. The shield has a razor edge and can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. The shield has the ability to split into two separate blades, which Gresh can wield in each hand.

During a battle between Gresh and a Skrall, the shield was broken, but it was later repaired by the Agori of Vulcanus.

Saw Blade Shield

The Saw Blade Shields are razor-edged shields used by the Skrall species. The shields can be used to block incoming attacks, as melee weapons, or as throwing weapons. Each shield is decorated with the Rock Tribe insignia.

Ice Axe

The Ice Axe is a weapon carried by the Glatorian Strakk.

Thornax launcher

A Thornax Launcher is a launcher that uses the Thornax fruit of Bara Magna as ammunition. The launchers are typically given to Glatorian, for use in the arena, though Bone Hunters are known to use them as well. The launchers are fairly light and easy to repair.

History

The launchers have been in use for over 100,000 years, invented prior to the cataclysm. After the Shattering, the launchers were rendered some of the most sophisticated technology on the planet, as any other complex machinery had been eradicated. They are now used primarily by the Glatorian in arenas, to hurl Thornax at each other. The weapons are usually used to launch ripe Thornax, since the use of explosive Thornax is frowned upon in the arena.

Functionality

The Thornax launcher is a simplistic launcher, comprised of two lengths of metal rods, which grip the Thornax fruit. A trigger mechanism squeezes the two bars together, which shoots the fruit out.

Gameplay

Navigation Area

The area where the player starts off is the main navigation area. Here, the player is allowed to choose and upgrade the select Glatorian, view his status for each character, see his awards list, or go to one of the three other areas. The areas where the player can upgrade are Strength, Toughness, Agility, and Mind.

• Strength increases power.
• Toughness increases attack resistance.
• Agility increases the parry and healing ability.
• Mind decreases time needed for the Thornax and increases its power.

Challenge Game

The core gameplay is one-on-one, 3D, hand-to-hand combat fighting in the Arena Magna during the Great Tournament. In order to win the fight, the player must reduce the opponent’s health to zero. The health gear will shift to a lower number if the health bar is completely depleted. In each match you can fire three Thornax After matches, a statistics sheet is displayed detailing the Glatorian’s gains and a match summary.

There are five different Glatorian Leagues – Rookie, Veteran, Copper, Silver, and Golden. The player has to work through each, battling tougher opponents, until finally, he has become the Glatorian champion. Each of these leagues can be played with the different characters, and progress is tracked individually for each one. The player starts out as Gresh and after completing leagues, characters are unlocked. Each character has his own unique fighting style.

Controls

• X – Light attack which is quick but deals little damage.
• C – Heavy attack which is powerful but requires a few seconds.
• V – Thornax, which is the most powerful attack depending on how much it is charged. The charge is represented by a blue meter.
• Space – Parrying and healing.

Spikeball Game

There is an additional “Spikeball” game in which the player, as Gresh, is paired with a likeness of the Glatorian and faces off against two Skrall. The goal of the game is to get the ball in the other team’s goal to score a point. The matches are one minute long.

Controls

• X – Pass the ball and switch player.
• Space – Shoot and steal the ball, which initiates a tug-of-war like game. Repeatedly pressing space until the bar reaches green will allow you to possess the ball. However, if it reaches red, the ball is lost to the Skrall.

The Outskirt Area

The player can also travel to the outside of the arena to talk with several Agori. The only Agori the player can initially talk to are Raanu, Atakus, Tarduk, Berix, Metus, and a Zesk. There are a selection of topics that the player can choose from to discuss with each Agori, save the antisocial Zesk, who wishes to be left alone. The mouse is used to navigate the area.

• Strakk is unlocked after the Copper league.
• Vorox is unlocked after the Silver league.

The player may enter the B.I.O. Code of any Glatorian (save Gresh) into the activation area, and the player will unlock that character for play.

Trivia

• A teaser of the game was released on BIONICLE.com after it updated on January 6, 2009. The movie begins by showing a few images of Gresh waiting to head out into the arena. A gateway opens, and Gresh proceeds forwards. He is seen fighting a Skrall, who then slices the camera and the movie shifts to a shot of the game’s logo.
• Two demo versions of the game were released at the International Toy Fair 2009 and LEGO World.
• There will also be an update later in the year which will provide access to new characters and locations.
• Due to the Legion of Merit award, it is not possible to have 5 awards, as you directly skip to 6 awards.

In earlier times, Bara Magna was a section of a larger planet, and held a very advanced civilization. However, a cataclysm struck the planet, and fractured it into Bara Magna and two smaller moons that would orbit it. Fortunately for its inhabitants, only a minority was trapped on these two moons.

A species, the Skrall, which had previously inhabited a different area on the planet, were cut off from their home as a result of the disaster. They attempted to establish a camp in the Black Spike Mountains, but encountered an aggressive species of shapeshifters, who killed many of their number.

The Vorox and Zesk, already a reclusive tribe, gradually devolved into savages as a reaction. It also worsened the availability of the scarce resources of the planet, and helped create a need for a new planet-wide social system. The Agori, organized into tribes, began hiring Glatorian to fight in arenas for resources.

The Skrall, commanded by their only remaining leader, Tuma, moved away from the mountains, and into the previously uninhabited city of Roxtus. Tuma, observing the Agori social system, began to participate in it as well, as part of his newly formulated plan of global domination.

Landscape

The planet of Bara Magna is mostly covered by desert, and does not have any oceans or areas with large quantities of water. However, it does have oases and other typical features found in a desert.

Inhabitants

In addition to its dangerous wildlife, such as Rock Steeds, Bara Magna is home to the Agori, Glatorian, Skrall and Bone Hunters

A group of shape-shifters is known to inhabit the area north of the Black Spike Mountains.

Trivia

• The words “Bara Magna” were part of an inscription on a wall in a tunnel deep under Metru Nui found by the Toa Hagah and Zaktan. The inscription was in a dialect unknown to the Toa and the words “Bara Magna” were the only words that Toa Bomonga could translate from the inscription.
• Mata Nui should know of the existence of Bara Magna, but does not.
• All the sapient species on Bara Magna are primarily made up of organic tissues, though frequently have mechanical implants within their bodies.

Atakus

Atakus accompanied a Skrall to an arena match in Vulcanus. When he was approached by an Agori sent by Raanu to gain the Skrall’s assistance in fighting against the Bone Hunters, he openly mocked the Agori’s attempts to gain the trust of the other villages and told him that the Skrall’s loyalty was temporary and for sale. After paying with a large amount of Thornax, the Agori gained Atakus’ Mark, allowing him to find a Skrall and purchase its seal, proof of their new contract to fight for Vulcanus.

Berix

One day, Berix journeyed far from his village of Tajun to salvage old armor to use in the arena. Unfortunately, he encountered the Bone Hunter, Fero, and his Rock Steed, who chased him through the desert. The Bone Hunter was about to kill Berix when he was stopped by Gresh, Strakk, and Tarix. Berix thanked the Glatorian but sadly stated he did not have a way to repay their kindness. Although Strakk complained, Gresh stated that saving a life required no retribution.

The group was then attacked by a pack of Vorox, but the battle ended soon after, when Malum signaled for the Vorox to retreat. Berix then parted ways with the trio of Glatorian. Tarix later caught up with Berix, and the two engaged in a discussion.

An Agori was tasked by Raanu to seek the aid of the Glatorian in defending the village of Vulcanus from Bone Hunter raids. When he traveled to Tajun, Berix encountered him and revealed that he had been accused of stealing an ancient spear from the Atero Trophy offering, and the entire Water Tribe was under suspicion. Eager to clear his name, he told the Agori that if he could find a way to make another Ancient Spear he could prove his innocence and the Glatorian Tarix would gladly aid in defending the fire tribe.

Berix then proceeded to help the Agori salvage the pieces needed to reconstruct a Spear, and his name was eventually cleared when the traveling villager gave the completed Spear to Tarix.

Metus

Metus travels all over Bara Magna in order to find a Glatorian who will fight in the arena for his tribe. His main job is traveling to promote Glatorian matches and recruit new fighters. He also dreams one day to fight beside a strong Glatorian for his village.

Once, while in Vulcanus, he was arguing with Raanu about the latter’s want of a Glatorian. Metus insisted that no one would ally with the Fire Tribe if it meant fighting a Skrall.

When an Agori sent by Raanu to seek help from several villages for Vulcanus arrived in Iconox, Metus approached the Agori and accused him of trying to step in on his business. He believed the Agori was seeking some kind of personal gain, but offered a deal in exchange for the location of a desert spring. The Agori readily agreed and gave Metus the location. Metus bestowed Iconox’s Favor upon the Agori and told him to seek out Strakk who would give him an audience with it.

Raanu

Following the exile of Malum for crimes in the arena, Raanu found himself in a desperate search for a Glatorian to fight for his tribe. His village found itself without defense from the Bone Hunters and unable to defend claims in the arena. The Skrall took advantage of this, claiming the flame geysers north of Vulcanus. Unable to challenge their claim, he beseeched Metus to find him a Glatorian to do battle for the territory. Metus’s response was that no Glatorian would fight for him-not if it meant fighting a Skrall.

As his village suffered from daily Bone Hunter raids, Raanu in his desperation turned to a helpful Agori to seek out Malum and ask him to return to defend the village. Malum was unwilling to return, but he instructed the Agori on a way to unleash the Vorox on the Bone Hunters, distracting them and temporarily alleviating the raids on Vulcanus. Raanu was awed by the courage shown by the Agori and rewarded him with an Honor Badge to let all know of his deeds. The leader then sent him to Tesara to seek out both Tarduk and the Glatorian Gresh, to see if they might have a way to save Vulcanus. The Agori later returned with a document that contracted several Glatorian to defend the village from the Hunters – Raanu praised him for his efforts and gave him the highest Honor Badge available as way of thanks.

Tarduk

Tarduk was tasked to be one of the Agori maintaining the Arena Magna in Atero for the Glatorian tournament there.

Tarduk recently found himself as an intermediary when an Agori came to visit Tesara on behalf of Raanu to request the help of the Glatorian Gresh. He promised to introduce the Agori, but doubted his prowess, not believing he was tough enough to endure the undergrowth of the jungle. He asked the Agori to present him with an artifact, an ancient scroll, to show his ability. When the Agori did so, he happily presented him with an Honor Badge and showed him the way to Gresh.

The ancient scroll presented to Tarduk made him very happy, and he was eager to spend time deciphering its meaning to see if it would provide insight into their ancient past.

While searching for treasure near the city of Atero, Tarduk found a metal tablet that showed strange symbols and a map showing the Red Star. Desiring to seek out the location, he persuaded Crotesius, an Agori of the Fire Tribe, to help him round up an expedition.

Zesk

Following the disaster on Bara Magna, the Zesk and the Vorox regressed into savages, eventually becoming little more than beasts. Thereafter, they were often forced to fight in arenas by other Agori.

Whilst on a quest to find a way of defending Vulcanus, an Agori went looking for a Zesk to test his Thornax Stew on, on the advice of the Glatorian Malum. He found a Zesk hiding in the sand, and avoided attack by quickly feeding it some of the stew. Satisfied, the beast spat out a musky-smelling ooze, the distinctive odor of which would identify him to Vorox as an ally of the Sand Tribe.

Glatorian

• Glatorian is a title given to those who are hired by villages to fight in arenas as well as other work.
• All Glatorian are unique in appearance; no two Glatorian look the same.
• Glatorian work for the Agori.
• The Glatorian fight each other in arenas.
• Depending on how badly one disobeys the arena rules, one can wind up exiled to the wastelands.
• A Glatorian wins a battle when the opponent is rendered unable to fight.
• There can be any number of Glatorian in a battle depending on the match rules.
• The Glatorian utilize explosive fruit called Thornax as weapons.
• Glatorian have tribe preferences in terms of working regularly for certain tribes.
• Glatorian make various earnings for winning battles.
• Glatorian can grow as old as Toa.
• Friendships are accepted and expected among the Glatorian.
• To be a Glatorian, one must be physically capable of winning a fight in the arena, and a village needs to trust that one can do so, since they are paying for one’s services.

• In the arena, participants rely purely on physical strength, tactics, and weaponry.

Gresh

In order to claim rights to an oasis, the Jungle Tribe sent Gresh to fight the Rock Tribe in the Vulcanus arena. While traversing through the deserts with Tarix and Strakk, Gresh encountered the Agori Berix fleeing from a Bone Hunter. Gresh intervened, saving the Agori’s life. Though outclassed by the Bone Hunter in strength, Gresh and his allies managed to defeat the Bone Hunter, forcing it to flee. Gresh, Tarix, and Strakk then followed the Agori to Vulcanus, encountering and defeating a pack of Vorox along the way.

Upon arriving at the arena, Gresh was soon forced into the fight, combating a vicious Skrall. The Skrall eventually overpowered Gresh, and defeated him. Before the Skrall was about to deliver a finishing blow, Tarix intervened, and forced the Skrall to spare Gresh’s life.

Returning to his home, Gresh was introduced to an Agori who had been sent by Raanu to ask the Glatorian if he would find a way to help Vulcanus, which was suffering from daily Bone Hunter raids and had no way to defend itself. Impressed by the Agori’s courage and willingness to help he suggested the Agori make a contract with him, Strakk, Tarix, and even the Skrall. After being paid, he gladly donated his own seal to the contract.

Malum

Malum fought in the arena as a Glatorian in service of Raanu’s Fire Tribe. During one match, Malum broke a primary rule when he tried to kill an opponent who had already conceded defeat. As punishment for violating the code of combat, Malum was banished to the Wastelands of Bara Magna. He began wandering the deserts, challenging any Glatorian he chanced upon for his own gain.

Malum eventually became the leader of a pack of Vorox. When three of the Vorox emerged from the sand and attacked Strakk, Gresh, Tarix, and Berix, Malum signaled for them to retreat in the midst of their battle. He and his Vorox also attacked a Skrall party north of the Skrall River, although they disappeared into the sand during the battle.

After his banishment, Vulcanus began experiencing daily raids by the Bone Hunters. Desperate for a solution, Raanu entrusted a helpful Agori with seeking out Malum and asking that he return to defend the village. Malum refused, declaring that he would never help the village, but promising that he would figure something out if the Agori gave him some Thornax ammo.

Receiving it, he reluctantly made good on his deal by telling the Agori to make a stew from the Thornax to feed to the Bone Hunters, with the hope that it would placate them. Realizing, however, that the Hunters would not be happy if the stew was made wrong, he intoned that it might be wise to feed it to a Zesk first, then tell them the Bone Hunters had more of it. He suspected the Zesk might get the Vorox to raid their camps to look for more, temporarily relieving Vulcanus of its problems. He subsequently traded with the Agori, receiving Thornax in return for the Rock Salt needed to make the stew.

Skrall

Skrall once fought in a great war before the Shattering took place. After the cataclysmic event, the Skrall were cut off from their homeland, and they conquered the region north of the Black Spike Mountains. However, the Skrall were soon attacked constantly by strange shapeshifters, until Tuma was the only Skrall of his class left, causing Tuma to bring the Rock Tribe south to Roxtus.

Until recently, Skrall did not participate in the social order of Bara Magna, preferring to operate on their own. However, Tuma’s goal of conquering Bara Magna has forced them into the system, competing with other tribes for resources and other valuables. Skrall are normally unnamed, but can earn themselves a name if they manage to distinguish themselves from the tribe, but the name can only be bestowed upon them by Tuma himself. Names unapproved by Tuma are forbidden, including nicknames. Additionally, only the Skrall that Tuma permits to battle in arenas may do so, and they are not permitted to work for any tribe other than the Rock Tribe.

A Skrall patrol was dispatched to the western ruins in search of the Certavus book. When they returned without it, Tuma reassigned them to a punishment of feeding the Spikit. Subsequently, the Skrall patrol was killed, as they were devoured by the Spikit.

Tuma then sent a Skrall, accompanied by Atakus, to Vulcanus, in order to claim an oasis the Jungle Tribe desperately needed. The Skrall overwhelmed his competitor, Gresh, and was about to kill him when Tarix intervened, warning the Skrall of the potential repercussions of his actions. The Skrall retreated, heading towards a mysterious cavern, where he met with an informant, who provided him with details of a trade caravan leaving from Tajun. The shadowy figure and the Skrall parted ways, and the Skrall headed to Roxtus, where he relayed his newly acquired information to Tuma.

A Skrall patrol leader received a parchment copy of the Bone Hunters plans to raid Vulcanus after a representative was sent. When his patrol was north of the Skrall River, they were ambushed by Malum and a pack of Vorox. Malum and the Vorox fled into the sands, leaving the patrol to return to Roxtus. The patrol leader informed Tuma, who assigned him to take a dozen Skrall and Rock Steeds to capture Malum.

A Skrall’s seal was purchased by an Agori sent by Raanu asking that it help aid in the defense of Vulcanus against the daily raids by Bone Hunters. The Skrall made it clear that a large payment was the only way to achieve it’s agreement, and that any other talk would lead to violence.

Strakk

The Glatorian Gresh was contracted by his village of Tesara to fight in the Vulcanus Arena against the Rock Tribe’s Skrall in a dispute over an oasis. He sought out Tarix and Strakk and together the three began the journey to the Fire Tribe. Along the way they encountered the Agori Berix, under attack by a Bone Hunter. Strakk and his allies managed to defeat the Bone Hunter, but Strakk was stampeded by the Rock Steed in the process. Berix was grateful to them for saving him but expressed grief at having no way to pay them. Gresh said that saving a life required no retribution, but Strakk disagreed, telling Gresh to “speak for himself.”

As the four continued to travel, they found themselves beset upon by a pack of wild Vorox. They managed to defend themselves until the pack retreated, seemingly at the signal of the exiled Glatorian Malum. When the Glatorian finally arrived, Strakk and Tarix served as spectators in the fight between Gresh and the Skrall. Although Strakk believed Gresh wouldn’t survive the fight, he was impressed with how long he managed to stay in the battle.

Later, when an Agori sent by Raanu to seek his help arrived at Iconox and showed him he had gained Iconox’s favor from Metus, Strakk was impressed and assumed that the Agori had used trickery to get it. He agreed to aid the other Glatorian in resisting the Bone Hunter raids that plagued Vulcanus, mentioning that he could use the opportunity to show his new moves, or to perhaps fake weakness in the ring to lull his enemies into a false sense of confidence the next time he fought them. In return for keeping quiet about his plans, he offered the Agori an Honor Badge that would allow him to seek an audience with the Skrall.

Tarix

After the disaster which split Bara Magna from it’s original landmass, Tarix helped design the new social system. Since then, he has won over a thousand arena battles.

Tarix was the victor of the tournament in Arena Magna held one year ago, and is the current champion of the Glatorian.

When the Glatorian Gresh was asked by Tesara to do battle with a Skrall over a debated oasis, he agreed and began journeying to Vulcanus with Strakk and Tarix. On their way they found an Agori, Berix, being attacked by the Bone Hunter Fero. They eventually forced the Bone Hunter to retreat, and continued on their journey with the Agori, but were again attacked by a pack of Vorox. The group was able to fend them off until they finally retreated. Berix noticed a figure in the distance, and Tarix realized that it was the exiled Glatorian, Malum.

Finally reaching Vulcanus, Tarix and Strakk watched from the sidelines as Gresh was defeated by the Rock Tribe’s Skrall. Before the Skrall could deliver a killing blow, Tarix intervened, saving Gresh’s life. Tarix warned the Skrall of the repercussions of his actions and congratulated Gresh on surviving for nearly three minutes in the ring with it.

Tarix later found Berix while wandering the desert, conversing with the Agori on future events.

Tarix’s home of Tajun soon found its name slandered by accusations that their repaired artifacts were in fact stolen. A representative of Raanu, who had come to ask for the Glatorian’s help, was told to find an Ancient Spear that would clear the village’s good name. After succeeding, Tarix pledged his help to Vulcanus in defending it against the raids by the Bone Hunters, giving the Agori his seal.

Vorox

Vorox were once part of the Glatorian species and were known to be proud warriors, though they were typically more reclusive than others. When a cataclysm struck Bara Magna, the Vorox began to revert to a more primal species, eventually losing all individual identity. Vorox do not participate in the social system, but fight in the arena when forced to.

The Glatorian Malum was exiled from his village, and encountered a group of Vorox in the wastelands. By attacking and killing the leader, Malum was able to gain the allegience of this pack. Three of these Vorox later encountered and attacked Gresh, Strakk, Tarix, and Berix. During the battle, however, Malum signaled for them to retreat. Malum and his pack of Vorox later attacked a patrol of Skrall while they paused, but allowed them to survive before disappearing.

An Agori sent by Raanu to find a means of defending Vulcanus went looking for a Vorox to try and turn against the Bone Hunters. He encountered one in a wasteland cave and was saved from being eaten by a musk he had been given by a Zesk. The Agori proceeded to give the Vorox several of the Thornax Stews the Zesk had loved, and was given a Stinger Oath in return, essentially forming a peace treaty.

A Zivon is a large Rahi created by the Brotherhood of Makuta that lives in the Field of Shadows and can only be summoned by the Kahgarak’s Rhotuka spinners. The Zivon is summoned whenever the Visorak hordes need a walking powerhouse of unstoppable force. Not that the hordes would like to see Zivon any more than they have to, though. Zivon fights only to protect its main food source, namely the spider creatures. The Zivon’s idea of a victory celebration often involves eating half its “allies,” and the Visorak understandably hate and fear this monster.

History

The only known specimen of Zivon was summoned to the ruined city of Metru Nui by Sidorak shortly after the Great Cataclysm, in an effort to destroy the Toa Hordika once and for all. It was thwarted by the appearance of a Tahtorak and the shapeshifting Rahi named Krahka; during the climax of the battle, a Kahgarak sent a Rhotuka spinner at Tahtorak, but Krahka rammed herself into the Zivon, forcing all three of them to be in physical contact when the spinner struck; as a result, all three were sucked into the Field of Shadow. A thousand years later, Krahka and Tahtorak escaped when Brutaka failed in his attempt to send Axonn into the Field; Zivon’s status, however, remains unknown.

Abilities and Traits

Zivon is well over 30 feet (9 meters or 6.66 bio) tall and has been described as looking “like some obscene hybrid of a Visorak, an Ussal crab, and who knew what else.” With a pair of powerful mandibles; two large claws; four Rhotuka spinners mounted on its head, back, and claws that cause blindness, deafness, muteness, and numbness; six legs that can shoot webbing to entangle foes; and a tail-mounted stinger powerful enough to penetrate even the thick hide of a Tahtorak.

Waikiru are aquatic Rahi whose agility when swimming is in sharp contrast to their slow and awkward movement on land. They use their tusks to defend themselves from threats such as Takea when escape by swimming is not an option. If treated with care they are gentle towards Matoran, but if threatened they may charge, posing a formidable danger.

On Metru Nui, Waikiru could be found along the Ga-Metru shoreline.

• Water Wraith

Water Wraiths are small marine Rahi created by Teridax. They are extremely tiny compared to other fish-like Rahi living underwater, and as such are ignored by most other aquatic Rahi looking for food. To hunt for a meal itself, the Water Wraith has a unique and deadly tactic. It will occasionally assault a much larger Rahi, which inevitably defeats the puny creature and gulps the small Rahi into it’s mouth. However, the Water Wraith has a powerful physiological adaptation, which coats the outer shell of its body in poison. As the bigger beast soon finds out, it has made a fatal mistake which kills it almost instantly. After the larger Rahi has died, the Water Wraith escapes back to the outside world and feeds on the dead creature for several months.

• Worm – A small, Kraata-like Rahi that can communicate with others of its species via telepathy. They are also small enough to fit in Bohrok headplates designed for Krana.

Vahki Hunters feed on any kind of machinery they can find. They have been known to eat Ta-Metru Fire Drones, industrial machinery, Vahki (hence their name) and anything else that is mechanical. The Vahki Hunter’s hunting method is to hide underground and wait for a Vahki squad to pass over its head. It then bursts out into the street, grabs the last Vahki in line, and pulls it down below. Once the Vahki Hunter is done eating, it then throws whatever parts it doesn’t like into the street.

• Vako

The Vako are great horned beasts which roamed the plains of Mata Nui in herds. Even the infected Rahi steered clear of the Vako, which are capable of charging at great speeds. The Po-Matoran attempted to tame the Vako a few times, but without success.

Different variations of Vako have been seen on both Ta-Wahi and Ko-Wahi, each slightly more adapted to their respective enviroments. These Rahi have since migrated from Mata Nui, due to the Bohrok’s activity.

• Vatuka

Vatuka are large and fearsome creatures made entirely out of rock created by the Energized Protodermis Entity.

History

One Vatuka once captured Turaga Whenua shortly before the arrival of the Toa; he was later rescued by Takua.

• Venom Flyer

The Venom Flyers are Rahi that would travel with Visorak squads to neutralize flying targets. Since the Visorak have gone to the island of Artidax, the Venom Flyers have been abandoned by the swarm. Their Rhotuka Spinners cause the inability to fly whether it be by natural or mechanical means.

• Visorak

The Visorak are sapient spider-like Rahi whose name means “stealers of life” or “Poisonous scourge” in their native language.

• Venom Eel

Venom Eels are eel-like Rahi that live in the waters around Mahri Nui.

History

Venom Eels made up the bulk of Barraki Ehlek’s army. They were considered a threat to the Mahri Nui Matoran. Dekar once encountered one during a routine hunt, however, due to his possession of the Ignika. Ehlek led his army of eels to attack Mahri Nui, however, he was convinced by Carapar to stop.

300 Foot Mutant Venom Eel

A Venom Eel was enlarged by the powers of the Kanohi Ignika up to a length of 300 feet (90 meters). It attacked Mahri Nui, attracted by its light and movement, but later changed its course when the Matoran, led by Defilak, smashed the city’s Lightstones, throwing the city into darkness.

The Venom Eel then attacked the stone cord and tried to squeeze it, but was defeated by the Toa Mahri (specifically Hewkii). Later, the Venom Eel battled an Ancient Sea Behemoth summoned by Kongu’s Kanohi Zatth. The two creatures then allied with Gadunka and joined together in fighting the Toa Mahri. The Venom Eel was defeated again by Hewkii, who used his Garai to cut off the eel’s gravity, letting a wave carry it away.

Abilities and Traits

Venom Eels rely on their excellent eyesight, and to lesser extent, their hearing, to hunt. They rely on fast acting venom from their fangs for both defense and offense.
