Venomous Rahaga, But Great Allies

The Rahaga were six beings, who were once — and are now again — Toa known as the Toa Hagah. They devoted themselves to saving Rahi whose homes have been invaded by the Visorak.

The six Toa Hagah, previously noble guardians of the Makuta Teridax who turned against him when they learned his dark intentions, were mutated into Rahkshi-headed mockeries of Turaga by the powers of Roodaka’s Rhotuka spinner and named Rahaga by her in a cruel jest, combining the words “Rahkshi” and “Hagah”

Soon after becoming Rahaga, the six friends set out on a quest to capture and save Rahi from the Visorak hordes of Roodaka and Sidorak. Along the way, they searched for Keetongu, a legendary Rahi skilled in the ways of venoms and their antidotes. Their travels eventually took them to Metru Nui, where they fought alongside the Toa Hordika in a quest to save the sleeping Matoran, and finally found Keetongu. Vakama, overtaken by his bestial rage, betrayed his friends and joined Roodaka, capturing Iruini, Gaaki, Kualus, Bomonga, and Pouks as proof of his worth to the horde. Norik and the other Toa Hordika eventually found Keetongu and defeated the Visorak, freeing their friends and bringing Vakama back to the side of the light. The healed Toa Metru set off to the island of Mata Nui with the Matoran, and the Rahaga remained in Metru Nui.

During this time, they helped Turaga Dume rebuild much of the city, and occasionally left to visit other islands and help the citizens there to recover from the Visorak. They were in the city by the time Vakama, the Matoran, and the Toa Nuva finally returned to Metru Nui, although they left soon afterwards. They then went to Xia to help its residents from the battle between Tahtorak and the Kanohi Dragon. While there, they discovered that the Toa Nuva had captured Roodaka, and they forced her to turn them back into Toa Hagah.

Rahaga Norik:

Rahaga Norik as seen in Web of Shadows.Rahaga Norik as a set.

Norik and his fellow Hagah, who were dubbed Rahaga by Roodaka, traveled the world in search of Keetongu, hoping to utilize his powers to save the victims of the Visorak Horde. They later ended up in Metru Nui and hid in the Onu-Metru Archives, witnessing the creation of the Toa Metru and their efforts to save the City of Legends.

After Teridax overloaded Metru Nui’s power plant and shattered the Archives, the Rahaga set out to help the Rahi that were now running around a city crawling with Visorak.

Norik and his fellow Rahaga rescued the former Toa Metru, who had been mutated by the Visorak into Toa Hordika. He then told them about Keetongu, a mythical Rahi that could possibly return them to their former Toa Metru selves.

The Rahaga agreed to help the Toa Hordika construct Airships to transport the Matoran out of the ruined city. Unfortunately, Vakama Hordika gave in to the Hordika, the ancient primal side of creatures that many thought was eradicated by the advancement of civilization, and captured all the Rahaga except Norik, whom he left behind for the purpose of informing the other Toa of his betrayal. The remaining Toa Hordika agreed to search for Keetongu, their only remaining hope for helping Vakama.

Norik led them across Metru Nui until they found Keetongu. He then helped translate Keetongu’s language to the Toa Hordika. Keetongu agreed to help them, and they forced their way into the Coliseum. As the Toa battled Visorak and Keetongu fought Roodaka and Sidorak, Norik silently went up to where the other Rahaga were being held and rescued them. They then aided in the fight against the Visorak, but even with their help, the Toa Hordika soon found themselves surrounded by Visorak.

Roodaka then arrived and tricked the Toa Hordika into firing Elemental Rhotuka spinners at her. Just as Vakama, who had realized his mistakes thanks to Matau, was about to shoot his Fire spinner, Norik realized why Roodaka wanted them to use their Elemental Powers. She carried with herself a piece of Protodermis carved from the very cage that sealed Makuta created by the Toa Metru’s unity. When Vakama fired the spinner, it broke the Toa Seal encasing Teridax, and he broke free of his cage.

Norik had yelled to Vakama to stop, but it had been too late. He fired the spinner, and in doing so, released Teridax. However, they were able to transport the sleeping Matoran to the island of Mata Nui.

Norik and the other Rahaga stayed behind, working to try and rebuild Metru Nui for when the Matoran returned. The Rahaga were there when the Matoran came back to Metru Nui, however they later left on a mission. Recently, the Rahaga went to aid the land of Xia, which was being ravaged by the ongoing battle of two monstrous Rahi – even though Xia is the homeland of their archenemy Roodaka. They arrived to find Roodaka in the custody of their allies, the Toa Nuva, and the Nuva forced her to turn the Rahaga back into the Toa Hagah.

Rahaga Kualus:

Kualus and Bomonga in Web of Shadows. The Rahaga Kualus set.

Kualus joined Norik in rallying the Rahaga, who were grief-stricken over their repulsive new forms. Working together, the Rahaga proceeded to sabotage the operations of the Brotherhood’s Visorak army in various locations around the Matoran universe. Finally, about 1,050 years before the time of the Toa Nuva, their efforts took them to Metru Nui. From their hiding place in the Onu-Metru Archives, they watched Teridax, their former employer and old enemy, conquer the city. They witnessed the valiant struggle of six novice Toa Metru that led to Teridax’s defeat and imprisonment. And then they noted, horror-stricken, that the Toa subsequently left the dead city, rendering it defenseless against the onslaught of the Visorak. By the time the Toa Metru returned, the Visorak had largely conquered the city. The Rahaga mobilized, but were unable to stop the Visorak from adding the Toa Metru to their list of trophies.

The Rahaga rescued the newly-formed Toa Hordika from certain death, educated them about their new abilities and tools, warned them of the threat of the Visorak, and aided them in their quest to rescue the Matoran. Kualus accompanied Toa Hordika Nuju, whom he frequently annoyed by persistently wasting time speaking to Rahi in their native language. During their adventures, Kualus once found himself hanging from a Chute with one hand while beating back oncoming Visorak with his staff. After being rescued by Nuju, Kualus summoned a huge swarm of Ice Bats to distract the Visorak. He also called in a pair of Gukko, and was possibly one of the first to ever ride those gigantic birds.

Kualus participated in the capture of the Tower of Toa. Later, Kualus unsuccessfully attempted to prevent Nuju from being lured into an Oohnorak trap. As they made their escape through the Archives, Kualus explained the Rahaga’s plan to Nuju. Shortly afterward, the pair was ambushed by a Kahgarak, blown through a wall, reunited with Toa Hordika Whenua and Rahaga Bomonga, and buried alive in an avalanche caused by Whenua. While unconscious, Kualus dreamed of Toa Hagah Norik and Iruini’s final, desperate rescue mission.

Along with four other Rahaga, Kualus was captured by Toa Hordika Vakama. During the Battle of Metru Nui, the five were rescued by Norik, and all six participated in the final struggle. After the Toa Metru left Metru Nui with the Matoran, Kualus and the other Rahaga stayed in Metru Nui with Turaga Dume to help rebuild the city. They frequently left to aid other islands that had been ravaged by the Visorak, but returned momentairly to Metru Nui to welcome the Matoran, Turaga, and Toa Nuva when they returned.

Later, the Rahaga went to the island of Xia to deal with a battle between the Kanohi Dragon and a Tahtorak. When they arrived, the Toa Nuva, who we already on the island, had captured Roodaka and forced her to transform the Rahaga back into their Toa Hagah forms.

Rahaga Gaaki:

Gaaki as a set.

After she was mutated along with the others, she became a Rahaga. Along with her teammates, she participated in small strike force activities against the Visorak branch of the Makuta army, attempting to damage it as much as they could. About 1051 years prior to the coming of the Toa Inika, she and the other Rahaga found themselves in Metru Nui, forming a base of operations in the Archives.

Over the years, they saw the rise of their former master, Teridax, and his subsequent defeat at the hands of the Toa Metru. Unfortunately, Teridax had ruined the city and the Toa Metru vacated it, leaving it vulnerable to the onslaught of the Visorak. She and the other Rahaga were able to prevent the Visorak from killing the Toa Metru, who had been transformed into Toa Hordika by Hordika Venom. They then helped the Hordika discover more about their bestial sides and how to control them.

Gaaki and Toa Hordika Nokama were swimming to the Great Temple in the damaged Ga-Metru to search for Kanohi, when Gaaki was hit by a Visorak’s Rhotuka spinner. Nokama saw this and lapsed into a fit of rage, creating a thunderstorm with her water spinner, and almost killing everyone around it. Nokama soon after calmed down and helped Gaaki with her injuries. When the two entered the Great Temple, they were attacked by a Gate Guardian. Nokama became frustrated trying to defeat it when Gaaki realized that it was a mere projection made by the real, larger Gate Guardian. Nokama defeated it with her Rhotuka and went into the next room to find a sign planted by Krahka with the word “Vhisola” inscribed on it. Later, she, Nokama, and the other Toa Hordika and Rahaga rescued Matau and Iruini from a group of Visorak Oohnorak. After a large battle, the Toa Hordika sealed a Visorak Tower with their elemental energies and named it the Tower of Toa.

Afterwards, Vakama found Gaaki and Norik cornered by Visorak, and after Vakama saved them, they informed him of the Kanohi Avohkii, Great Mask of Light, and the Makoki Stones, which were the key to recovering it. Vakama found his stone and informed the other Toa, and the Mask of Light was found and disguised as a stone by Onewa to help them smuggle it out of the city safely.

Later, the Rahaga journeyed to the Great Temple to search for Keetongu. Gaaki was able to translate most of the ancient texts, but she and the other Rahaga, excluding Norik, were captured by Vakama, who had succumbed to his Hordika side, and presented to Sidorak to gain his trust. She and the other four Rahaga were tied to poles on the observation deck of the Coliseum with Visorak webbing, but were later rescued during the assault on the coliseum. Roodaka was defeated by the Hordika, and teleported away by Teridax. She and the other Rahaga assisted in putting the Matoran Spheres into Airships. They stayed long enough to send the Toa off, and left to go assist other victims of Visorak.

500 years after the Great Rescue, while the Rahaga were in Metru Nui along with Keetongu and the reawakened Turaga Dume, they battled and defeated a separated group of Visorak.

They returned briefly to Metru Nui to welcome the population of Mata Nui, before returning to their mission. Recently, the Rahaga went to aid the land of Xia, which was being ravaged by the ongoing battle of two monstrous Rahi. They arrived to find Roodaka in the custody of the Toa Nuva, and they forced her to turn the Rahaga back into the Toa Hagah.

Rahaga Iruini:

Rahaga Iruini in Web of Shadows. The Rahaga Iruini set.

Iruini was at first ashamed of his appearance as a Rahaga, but over most of two centuries he had gotten somewhat used to it. Iruini did not believe in Keetongu, and felt that the Rahi was just a myth. That was, until the Rahaga and the Toa Hordika found the legendary Rahi in Ko-Metru. After the Battle of Metru Nui, Iruini assisted the other Rahaga and Turaga Dume in rebuilding the great city.

He was with the other five Rahaga and Keetongu, helping other islands that have fallen victim to the Visorak, but they still used Metru Nui as their “base.” Recently, the Rahaga went to aid the land of Xia, which was being ravaged by the ongoing battle of two monstrous Rahi – even though Xia is the homeland of their archenemy Roodaka. They arrived to find Roodaka in the custody of their allies, the Toa Nuva, and the Nuva forced her to turn the Rahaga back into the Toa Hagah.

Rahaga Pouks:

Pouks in Web of Shadows. The Rahaga Pouks set.

After being mutated to their monstrous forms, Pouks and the other Rahaga proceeded in launching small sabotage missions against the Visorak branch of the Brotherhood’s army.

Fifty years prior to the coming of the Toa Metru, the Rahaga arrived in the city of Metru Nui. Establishing a small base in the Archives, they watched helplessly as Makuta Teridax slowly gained control of the city.

They witnessed the rise of the Toa Metru, led by Toa Vakama, and the defeat of Teridax. The Toa Metru left the wrecked city, only for it to be soon overrun with Visorak. The Toa returned to the city, were captured, and were hung in cocoons thousands of feet above the city streets.

The Toa were mutated into savage Toa Hordika in there cocoons, and dropped from their perches by the ruthless King and Viceroy of the Visorak, Sidorak and Roodaka. The Rahaga were able to save the Toa Metru from being disposed of by the Visorak, and told the heroes how to revert themselves to their original forms. Understanding something about bestial appearances, the Rahaga were able to connect with the Toa Hordika, and teach them about their inner darkness.

The Toa Hordika then embarked on a mission save themselves, and the thousands of sleeping Matoran under the Coliseum. The only way to transport the massive amounts of Matoran was to travel them by Airship. As all Airships had since been reduced to rubble by the Great Cataclysm, they needed to construct some themselves, and in order to do so, they needed to acquire Levitation Kanoka disks, a key component. While searching for levitation disks in Po-Metru with Toa Onewa, Pouks stumbled upon Krahka, under the guise of a Stone Snake.

After a brief conversation about the fate of her race, Krahka transformed into a replica of Roodaka. Pouks, unimpressed, continued the conversation but was knocked unconscious when Krahka threw him against a rock. When Toa Onewa showed up, they continued the conversation, in which Onewa tossed a few insults at Krahka.

Realizing how powerful Roodaka was, Krahka traveled with Onewa and Pouks to Ta-Metru to meet a ‘friend’, the Tahtorak. While Krahka shapeshifted into a replica of Onewa, Pouks and the real Onewa went to Le-Metru. Pouks then witnessed the fight between the Tahtorak and the Zivon, while fighting with the Toa Hordika for control of the Visorak Tower, the aftermath of which resulted in the disappearance of the Zivon, Tahtorak, and Krahka into the Zone of Shadows. After the battle, they held a conference, where all the Toa Hordika shared the information they had discovered, and the events they had experienced.

Pouks, along with the other Rahaga (except for Norik) were later captured by Vakama, who had succumbed to his animalistic impulses, and joined with Roodaka. They were bound in Visorak webbing, and taken to the Coliseum. They were later freed by Norik, during the siege on the coliseum, during which Vakama realized his errors, and returned to the light, with the help of Matau. After Vakama disbanded the hordes, and Teridax had spirited Roodaka away, Pouks assisted the construction of airships and the transportation of the Matoran Spheres.

Afterwards, they left Metru Nui to go assist other victims of the Visorak. They returned briefly to the city to welcome back the Matoran, and acquaint themselves with the Toa Nuva, but departed to continue their mission soon after. Recently, the Rahaga went to aid the land of Xia (despite it being the homeland of their archenemy, Roodaka), which was being ravaged by the ongoing battle of two monstrous Rahi. They arrived to find Roodaka in the custody of their allies, the Toa Nuva, and the Nuva forced her to turn the Rahaga back into the Toa Hagah.

Rahaga Bomonga:

Bomonga in Web of Shadows. The Rahaga Bomonga set.

Considering them no longer a threat, Roodaka spared them, and let them get away, not knowing that they had the mask. The Rahaga traveled to Onu-Metru, and after the Great Cataclysm, made a last stand with the Toa Hordika. After meeting the Hordika, and devising a plan to rescue the Matoran with airships, Bomonga and Whenua went to the Archives to looks for levitation Kanoka, to use in the construction of the airships. There, they met two Kahgarak, one which was teleported to the Field of Shadows, and the other which teleported them to the Field. In there, they followed the Kahgarak until they saw a light. Coming out at the same time as the Kahgarak, Sidorak commanded the Visorak to tie them up and prepare for Zivon’s summoning, Whenua and Bomonga being his meal when he gets out. They were rescued by Nuju freezing the webbing and enabling them to get out. After that, Bomonga and Whenua joined in the battle with the rest of the Hordika, Krahka and the Tahtorak. The battle ended with Tahtorak, Krahka and the Zivon going back into the Field of Shadows, and the Toa capturing the tower that Sidorak and the Visorak were building. The Toa charged it with Elemental Power, and they stayed in there for a while.

Later, Whenua and Bomonga returned to the Archives to find something that would help them in their mission to save the Matoran of Metru Nui, they found Toa Hordika Nuju and Rahaga Kualus trying to escape a Kahgarak. Nuju defeats the Kahgarak and the four run to a lower level of the Archives, but are soon cornered by Vohtarak and another Kahgarak. Whenua madly launches Rhotuka spinners at the ceiling, causing it to cave in on the Toa, Rahaga, and Visorak. Bomonga and Whenua escape and with Vakama and Onewa’s assistance, help Nuju and Kualus out of the rubble. Later, the Toa Hordika (excluding Vakama) and Rahaga regroup and go to the Great Temple to find clues to help them search for Keetongu, who can restore the Hordika into their former states. While searching, he along with four of the other Rahaga are captured by Vakama, fully given in to his Hordika side, and presented to Sidorak in an attempt to gain his trust. The five Rahaga were hung from the Coliseum in Visorak webs, but were later rescued by Norik during the Battle of Metru Nui. When Roodaka was defeated and the Hordika were cured by Keetongu, he along with the other Rahaga helped the Toa Metru and Keetongu load the Matoran Spheres onto the Airships they built. The Rahaga and Keetongu stayed behind on Metru Nui, occaisionally leaving to help islands conquered by the Visorak. 500 years after the Great Rescue, the Rahaga, Keetongu, and the reawakened Turaga Dume fought off and defeated a seperated group of Visorak. When the Matoran, Turaga, and Toa Nuva returned to Metru Nui, Bomonga and the other Rahaga were there to greet them, but left shortly afterwards.

Shortly afterwards, the Rahaga ventured to Xia to help in the crisis spawned by a battle between a Tahtorak and the Kanohi Dragon. Upon arriving, however, they found Roodaka captured by the Toa Nuva, and the Toa forced her to transform them back into Toa.

Turaga of Mata Nui/ Metru Nui Are Here to Help

At some point of their life, Toa teams will revert into Turaga after they have completed their mission. There are many Turaga in the BIONICLE universe.

Turaga Vakama:

Turaga Vakama as a set.http://www.bzpower.com/Imaging/setref/8540_image5.jpg

After his return to the island of Mata Nui, Vakama and the other five Toa sacrificed their Toa Power to revive the Matoran from their slumber. Now a Turaga, Vakama was faced with the task of leading and protecting his Matoran from the wild Rahi and Teridax, who made life hard for the Matoran on their island paradise. In the absence of Toa, Vakama used his diminished elemental powers to aid in the defense of his village. He also chose Jaller as his right hand Matoran, and Kapura as his left.

Not long before the arrival of the Toa Mata, Vakama was captured by Fire Mahi. He also lost his Firestaff, which somehow ended up in the tunnels of Onu-Wahi. Shortly after he and his tool were recovered by Takua, the Toa Mata were summoned from the Kini-Nui.

When Toa Tahu first arrived in Ta-Wahi, and was trapped by Jaller, Vakama intervened, stopping Tahu from taking his revenge on the captain of the guard. After aiding Tahu in his search for Kanohi, Vakama asked Takua to gather the Chronicler’s Company, to protect the Toa Mata from being trapped underneath the Kini-Nui while they confronted Teridax. Afterwards, Vakama spoke with Takua once more, who had witnessed the awakening of the first Bohrok, calming the Matoran, and welcoming him back to his home in Ta-Koro.

After the Pahrak and Kohrak attacked Ta-Koro, Vakama told the Toa Mata of the Bohrok, causing the Toa to wonder how many secrets the Turaga were hiding. After the transformation of the Toa Nuva, Vakama witnessed the attack of the Bohrok-Kal, in which the Toa Nuva lost their elemental powers. During this time, Vakama was trapped with Pohatu, Onua, and Lewa in the Place of Shadow. Facing the Rahi Nui for the second time, he confronted the beast by turning invisible and taunting it. As the beast remembered and hated Vakama’s voice, it charged him, jamming its horns into the wall, and allowing the Toa and Turaga to escape.

Vakama later witnessed the discovery of the Mask of Light, and encouraged Takanuva following Jaller’s death. After Takanuva defeated Teridax, and Jaller was revived, Vakama was present when Metru Nui was rediscovered. He then decided to share his tales of his time as a Toa with the Toa Nuva and the Matoran.

After approximately three months of story-telling and Boat construction, Vakama, the Turaga, the Toa Nuva, and all the Matoran at last set foot on Metru Nui.

Turaga Nuju:

Turaga Nuju as a set.Turaga_Nuju2.jpg

As a Turaga, Nuju gradually began to speak only in the language of the birds, thus training Matoro to be his translator. Nuju gave his reason for this dramatic change as: If one did not have the patience to hear him speak, then they were not worth talking to. He retained his knowledge of the Matoran language, but used it only in emergencies, such as explaining to a newly-arrived Toa Mata Kopaka his quest. He designated his translator Matoro as his right hand, and Kopeke as his left.

As a Turaga, Nuju oversaw the construction of Ko-Koro, and later aided in its defense. When Kopaka arrived on Mata Nui, Nuju directed him to find the “point of all-seeing” to find his first Kanohi. Nuju also instructed Takua to gather a group of Matoran to defend Kini-Nui while the Toa Mata went to Mangaia, after Matoro had been found and returned to the village. Nuju told Takua to take Kopeke, and that his ice carving skills would come in handy. He helped the Ko-Matoran during Bohrok attacks, and when the Bohrok-Kal attacked, Nuju used his Matatu to lift Kopaka out of a canyon he had gotten stuck in.

Nuju was a witness to the battle between Makuta Teridax and Takanuva, the Toa of Light. The battle resulted in the creation of Takutanuva, the combined form of the two beings. Takutanuva opened a door leading to Metru Nui, permitting the inhabitants of Mata Nui to return to the island-city. Before returning, Nuju and the other Turaga related their story of their lives as Toa to the Toa Nuva.

Turaga Nokama:

Turaga Nokama as a set.

The Toa Metru sacrificed their power to awaken the Matoran, and turned into the six Turaga. Nokama spent the next thousand years using her weak elemental powers to help the Ga-Matoran defend their floating village from Rahi. Her right hand Matoran is Macku, while her left hand Matoran is Kotu. Also during her early times on Mata Nui, she and the other Turaga captured and imprisoned hundreds of Kraata. Later, she would witness the coming of new Toa, and was the one who would appoint Takua as Chronicler while on his journeys around the island. She was imprisoned by some of Teridax’s infected Rahi, but was freed by Takua. During an attackon Ga-Koro, she and the rest of the villagers, save for Macku, were imprisoned in a hut, which then sunk the the bottom of Naho Bay. She worried franticly of what had become of Macku until Takua came, and talked to her through an air tube, telling that Macku was fine. When the hut’s pump was repaired, Nokama came out and saw the Tarakava that imprisoned them come back, fortunately Gali came at that point and and defeated the Rahi. Nokama talked with Takua thanking him for helping her village. She grounded Macku for wandering away, despite that was what saved them. When Takua came back looking for company to his journey to Kini Nui, she let Macku journey with them, since she was miserable staying in her Hut. When the Bohrok awakened, she helped the Ga-Matoran defend their aquatic home and would host the company of the Po-Matoran near the end of the Bohrok struggle. While the Matoran were busy repairing their village, Nokama was informed by Hahli, that Gali had summoned a giant tidal wave, but was then powerless to stop it. Nokama went to Gali’s aid, and found that she was greatly angered by her loss of powers, and how her brothers refused to listen to her when she foresaw somthing like this happening. Nokama sympathized with her loss of power, and led her to the cavern which the Toa Metru had journeyed to Metru Nui, so she could find a Kanohi Nuva. She then closed off the cave, and hoped that Gali would figure out how to escape. When Gali found the mask and came out of the cavern, she asked Nokama if the the carving that Nokama made 1000 years ago that she saw was one of her as a Toa. Nokama dismissed, saying that Gali was a Toa, and that she was a Turaga. After the defeat of the Bohrok-Kal, Nokama appointed Macku and Hahli to be her Kohlii champion, despite that Hahli had absolutely no experience in the sport. After the revelation of the Mask of Light, it was she who translated the writing on the mask which foretold of the coming of a Seventh Toa who would defeat Makuta.

Turaga Matau:

Turaga Matau as a set.Turaga Matau as seen in Mask of Light.

As a Turaga, Matau saw a millennium pass by in the blink of an eye. He was called the Singer of Le-Koro in Mata Nui Online Game. He and his Matoran were constantly on guard for wild Rahi and Teridax’s attacks, and he aided the Matoran in the defense of the Koro with his weakened mask and powers.

One day, this all changed; Takua, the Chronicler, found all six of the ancient Toa Stones and used them to summon guardians for the Matoran. These six, named the Toa Mata, drifted in from sea. Lewa, Toa of Air, came to Le-Koro, where Matau taught him the legends of Mata Nui and told him to collect the six great masks. Throughout the battles of the new Toa, Matau advised Lewa many times.

During an attack on Le-Koro, Matau was captured by the Nui-Rama, along with many of the other Le-Matoran. Kongu and Takua later entered the hive intending to free them. Unfortunately, they were captured as well. Matau spoke to Takua of events happening there, including Lewa’s infection. Fortunately for everyone, Onua arrived and confronted Lewa, and in the ensuing fight, Matua helped Onua by telling him about the mask. Lewa was restored to the light, and the Le-Matoran were all taken back to Le-Koro.

When the Bohrok awakened, the Lehvak quickly arrived and conquered Le-Koro, despite attempts at defense by Matau and his villagers. He was enslaved by a Krana Za and became an agent of the swarm, burning through his beloved forest and assisting in the destruction of Le-Koro (along with the acidic Lehvak). He also ‘greeted’ Toa Lewa and enslaved him as well. Matau was freed when the Boxors attacked, along with Takua, Tamaru and Kongu, upon which the Turaga began the process of rebuilding his village.

During the Rahkshi invasion, Matau did little, keeping his villagers safe from the dangerous Rahkshi. He, along with the other Turaga, led the Matoran into Teridax’s lair, where they bore witness to the duel of Takanuva and Teridax. After this, he helped tell the tales of the Toa Metru to the Toa Nuva, and finally journeyed back to Metru Nui.

Turaga Onewa:

Once on Mata Nui, Onewa willingly sacrificed his Toa Power to awaken the Matoran, transforming into a Turaga in the process. He supervised the construction of Po-Koro, making sure that it resembled Po-Metru, and aided in the defense of the village with his mask and powers. He became known for his ability to judge and resolve disputes fairly, and was nicknamed “Referee” for his efforts. He, together with Turaga Whenua, also invented the sport of Kolhii. His (former) right hand Matoran was Hewkii while his left hand Matoran is Hafu.

During the Po-Koro Epidemic, Onewa was greatly saddened at the sickness of of the Po-Matoran, and spent most of his time carving beds for the sick. It was Takua who showed him the origin of he sickness, the Comet Kohlii ball. However, Onewa knew that the Matoran would not relinquish the balls without proof, so he sent Takua to find the source of the infected balls. When the source was exposed, and Pohatu had thrown them out to sea, Onewa rewarded Takua with a chisel.

Onewa spotted the Bohrok starting to destroy some of Po-Wahi’s famous monuments, and fiercely attacked the Pahrak that were doing it, even thought they didn’t even recognize his precence. He later went back to warn the Po-Matoran of the Bohrok’s arrival. He later led the Po-Matoran to Ga-Koro in order to escape the Tahnok swarms, which were ravaging Po-Koro. There, as they and the Ga-Matoran prepared to make a last stand against the Bohrok, the Toa defeated the Bahrag and saved them from the Pahrak swarms.

Onewa was present at the Kolhii Match that took place in Ta-Koro and witnessed the revelation of the Mask of Light.

Onewa withheld information about Metru Nui and his life as a Toa from Pohatu, and continued to do so, leaving Vakama the task of telling the story of their lives as Toa Metru.

Turaga Whenua:

Turaga Whenua as a set.Turaga Whenua in Mask of Light.

When Whenua became a Turaga, he carried the Drill of Onua. He chose the underground caverns of Onu-Wahi for the location of Onu-Koro, aiding in its construction, and later in its defense, using his remaining powers. He chose Onepu as his right hand Matoran, while his left hand Matoran is Taipu. He was once rescued from a Vatuka by Takua in the Onu-Koro mines.

Whenua was swamped by a number of complaints from his village for a long time, ranging from poor mining conditions to a lava flow blocking the Lightstone mine. After Takua had helped with a number of the problems, Whenua was finally able to help him and answer his questions.

When Takua came looking for a Matoran to accompany him to Kini-Nui, Whenua told him to take Taipu, who loved his experience to Le-Wahi. Takua later visited Whenua while the village was under lockdown to ask about the mysterious rock layer, and Whenua told him they suspected it to be another entrance to Mangaia.

After the Bohrok-Kal attacked Mata Nui, Whenua traveled with Onua in search for his Kanohi Nuva. Later on, after the discovery of the Mask of Light, Teridax unleashed his Rahkshi on the island. Whenua took Onua and Pohatu to the outskirts of Po-Wahi into a cave, revealing thousands of Kraata. He informed the Toa Nuva that it was the Kraata that poisoned the Kanohi Teridax used to enslave the Rahi. He continued, saying that it was for this reason that he and the other Turaga captured as many of them as they could, locking them up in suspended animation. Unfortunately, the Rahkshi arrived, causing a cave-in and releasing all the Kraata from their prisons. The three of them managed to escape from the cave, sealing the rest of the Kraata in. A Shadow Kraata also managed to escape, but Pohatu captured it.

Turaga Dume:

Dume in Legends of Metru Nui.Dume's body in a Matoran Sphere.

When the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, Dume and Nuju began paying close attention to the stars, eventually coming to the horrifying conclusing that Mata Nui was slowly perishing. While the Matoran were rebuilding the city, Dume called a conference of the Toa Nuva and Turaga, revealing his discovery. He spoke of the legendary Mask of Life, a powerful artifact that could save the Great Spirit’s life.

Shortly after revealing this shocking news, Dume led the Turaga and the Toa Nuva to a spherical room underneath Onu-Metru where six Toa Canisters were floating. He then witnessed the departure of the Toa Nuva to the island of Voya Nui.

After Jaller became angry with the Turaga due to their refusal to tell the Matoran where the Toa Nuva had gone, Dume grew furious, going so far as to say Nokama betrayed them by revealing to Jaller what the Turaga had learned. He also refused to send Takanuva after the Toa Nuva, claiming that it was his destiny to defend the city. Takanuva directly disobeyed his orders, and journeyed with with Jaller and his crew of Matoran, though he later returned. Dume promised Takanuva to consider sending him after the Toa Nuva and Jaller and his team, the latter having already returned to defend the city.

Dume is now in Metru Nui, along with the other Turaga, awaiting the return of the Toa Nuva, and continuing the reconstruction of Metru Nui.

Turaga Lhikan:

When three of the Toa Metru, Nuju, Whenua and Onewa, were captured and sent to the Dark Hunter Prison, they were surprised to discover that they shared their cell with a Turaga they did not recognize. Lhikan, the Turaga in disguise, trained them to use their mask powers.

Once Nuju had mastered his Kanohi Matatu’s Telekinesis power and used it to create a hole in the wall of their cell, the three Toa Metru and Lhikan made their escape.

During Vakama’s journey through Le-Metru, the Toa Metru of Fire was beset with a vision in which Lhikan appeared as a Toa. In the vision, Lhikan warned Vakama to heed the warnings of his visions, or else suffer the consequences of ignoring them.

Lhikan and his Toa Metru companions were travelling through an area of the Archives when they ran into Vakama, Nokama and Matau. Once the Toa Metru were reunited, Lhikan revealed his identity and asked Vakama if the heart of Metru Nui was safe. Vakama had misconstrued the initial vision in which Lhikan commanded to “save the heart of Metru Nui,” thinking that this referred to Lhikan himself. Lhikan explained that the “heart” was, in fact, the city’s Matoran population. While Vakama brooded over his misinterpretation, he discovered the real Dume in a Matoran Sphere. Witness to this discovery, the Turaga’s suspicion was confirmed that an imposter had taken control of Metru Nui.

Turaga Lhikan and the Toa Metru made their way to the Coliseum, where they challenged the false Turaga Dume. Makuta Teridax, the imposter, exposed himself and began absorbing power from the Coliseum’s power plant as the Great Cataclysm came into effect. Using a stolen Vahki transport, the Toa Metru and Lhikan escaped the shadowed and crumbling city. As they reached the Great Barrier, Teridax caught up to them and a battle ensued over the possession of the Vahi, the Great Mask of Time.

In the end, Lhikan was killed, sacrificing himself to save Vakama from Teridax’s shadow hand. The dying Turaga gave Vakama his mask before he died. His last words were:

“I am proud to have called you brother, Toa Vakama.”

Turaga Jovan:

After the Toa returned the Ignika, they transformed into Turaga, and Jovan stayed behind to take leadership of the village of Voya Nui and watch over the mask. During the Great Cataclysm, when the landmass containing Voya Nui broke off the continent and rocketed to the surface of the BIONICLE Planet, Jovan was killed in the upheaval.
